- You must have experienced a broken screen while using a smartphone. If it is a newer phone, you will inevitably need to fix it, but if it is an old phone, it may be cheaper to buy a used phone.
So I tried to convert such an inevitable broken phone into a tablet. It is a Dex tablet using the Dex function of the Galaxy. For Android 10 or higher phones other than Samsung, you can use the mirroring function.

You did amazing work as always. And thanks for repurposing a broken phone. With the move to OLED, replacing screens never makes any sense money-wise, so a lot of good phones just get thrown out, and that's bad. But you did great here.
I have the same phone shown here, but it's the regular s9. I also have got a feeling that the og fold will get it's last major update this year, as it's going to be four years old, which is also this year. Surprised that the screen isn't broken on the one featured in the video

저도 마음같으면 망가진 핸드폰을 태블릿으로 만들고 싶지만 망가진것중에 덱스를 지원하는 폰이 없어서.... 아쉽네요
미러링으로도 되긴 됩니다만... 제가 해본결과 덱스모드가 백배는 더 편합니다. 미러링 모드는 회전에 문제가 있어서요.

someone posted ins on r/SamsungDex and it made a highlight of the day for me. you certainly have skill to solder pretty well, yet improvise USB extension cables instead of soldering the USB port out of the hub and connecting things directly. not to discourage, was a fun watch, I'm happy to see you are having fun!

잘보았습니다. 공교롭게도 아는분이 액정 가루가 된 S9 가져오셔서 덱스모드로 전화번호랑 이것저것 옮겨드린게 있는데 그 분은 가고 액정 가루된 S9만 남았는데... 저는 배터리가 있는 휴대용 모니터에 붙여서 활용해 볼까 생각했었는데 이렇게 과감하게 도전하는 방법도 있겠군요. 정말 재미있게 잘보고 갑니다.
사실 가장 일반적인 대응방법이죠 ㅎㅎ
어떻게 하면 가능한건가요? 저도 갤럭시 s9+ 액정 완전 박살난게 있는데 대리점 가니까 못 옮겨준다고 그러더라구요

The tablet is so stylish! It would litteraly work like a samsung version of the microsoft surface and I love that design! I think i will try this kind of 2nd life for old phones and to play a little

Vários componentes que fazem total diferença se soldar positivo e negativo em lugar errado ai dar um ruim brabo. mas é isso me mostrou que mesmo com somente um LCD e um celular com a tela quebrada porem funcionando da pra fazer um tablet top. MAS AI DOIDEIRA, meus parabéns!!!

Screen has a bad touch response delay as i could see but this is reeeeeealy nice. I actually like how it is a mess at the back. It shows how much hard work and dedication you gave. Please give more contents like this!

Because of the smashed display of the phone, will the phone malfunction if you tried taking out the broken display? Taking the electronics of the phone and laying it out on the tablet might help it become thinner and help in heat dissipation too.
This is a novel idea that can be improved with 3d printing, aluminum backbone and some downsizing from the original phone, including making the sim tray accessible and relocating the camera. It may be extra unnecessary work but its rebirth as a tablet should come out nice.
금손들이면 몰라도 일반인들에겐 지금 수준도 어렵죠.
일반인들이 도전 해볼 엄두를 못내면 공감하기도 어렵고.

I would have added an aluminium plate to the back of the screen to provide rigidity, and i would have made the casing from wood instead of transparent polycarbonate. But still, the tablet turned out pretty good, despite its messy appearance. Good work

3D 프린터로 마감한 부분은 전기 인두로 평평하게 할때는 면이 넓은 것을 쓰면 빠르고 편합니다.
한번 만들어 보고 싶네요.
단지 집에 굴러다니는 폰은 갤노트5랑 아이폰 6S라서...

터치스크린의 USB를 허브쪽에 연결할때 USB A커넥터에 납땜을 하고 허브에 꼽는것보다 허브의 USB커넥터를 적출하고 거기에 납땜하는 편이 여러므로 낫지 않았을까요?
I do enjoy the idea, but if a hdmi input is added to switch the tablet to a monitor, it would be nice. I know hdmi is hard to solder, but small kvm can be harvested to make one.

I'd put a baking sheet on the 3d printed sides and use an iron to smooth the sides and if it was a working phone you could make side walls, glue the USB port to it and slide the phone in and out. I made this thing with a wooden frame but I couldn't think of making a 12v battery. I'll use your tips. Thank you for the video!

요즘 포터블모니터는 c to c 케이블로 연결만하면 충전과 덱스 출력이 가능하던데 그렇게 하면 공간을 더 줄일 수 있지 않을까요?
포터블 모니터로 하기에는 비용이 만만치 않죠.

Absolutely good idea. A proper screen replacement can be expensive for many smartphones. Especially the high-end one that is no longer the latest model but far from being obsolete. You can easily get them used with about the same as the official repairing service price and the third party screen can have some quirk and are usually expensive during this time. So why not just get a new phone (or used one) and breathe an old trusty one a new life. I don't have much soldering skill so I simply connect the broken screen Huawei P30 pro to a living room TV.
are you sure that all that things in there is not more expensive than replacing the screen?
There are cheaper alternatives, this is just for fun DIY project. portable screens available in market, some even have type c input (no need of converters) with much better screen and touch quality and have their own battery.

Me encantan tus vídeos, estudio ingeniería electrónica y hace mucho que youtube no me recomienda vídeos de electrónica. Solo que bueno, si un flex es demasiado largo, simplemente lo puedes cortar y seguirá funcionando xD. Me pone nerviosa cuando pegas las cosas con masilla o doblas los cables pero aún así está muy bien. :)

네, 전원만 들어가면 부팅직후 자동 진입입니다. 발열은 어쩔 수 없는데 워낙 커서 다른 부분에 열이 전혀 없기 때문에 괜찮습니다.
@@DIYDrK 디스플레이쪽 특정부분 계속 열발생시키면 6개월정도면 해당 부분 터치나 화면 깨짐발생이 잦더라구요 ㅠ 그래서 구리스패드 정도 붙이면 어떨까해서...

2. 강도가 수십배입니다. 글루건 - 문구용 가위로도 잘린다. 3D펜 - 강력한 니퍼로도 간신히 자른다.
