You just witnessed the most talented skilled trio of all time. Neil Peart is arguably the best rock drummer of all time, Geddy and Alex are off the charts as well. Neil wrote most of the songs, he's a genius and a legend. RIP Neil..
I'd rate Neil at least the equal of any drummer in history. Certainly in the top 5.
Amen my friend! My favorite band
Neil wrote most of the lyrics, Alex and Geddy most of the music.
Bonzo bonzo bonzo bonzo
I give Neil his props..he's definitely top 5 all time.
Almost 40 years old and still as solid as ever! 1981
Hell ya...
Neil Peart kills it in every song. One of the best.
Calvin wallace president CEO of AARF African-Americans for a rush join me on my page
The best in my humble opinion.
Rush is at their best live. Their musicianship is off the charts.
Agreed, but I like their pre-2000s live performances best (Rush in Rio and before). Geddy's voice really starts going south around R30 and is completely shot in R40 because of his age.
@@norwegianblue2017 His voice definitely aged, like they all do, but instrumentally they sounded just as tight as ever. I could listen to them jam for hours.
@Justin Edwards Definitely won't get an argument from me.
" I can't pretend a stranger is a long-awaited friend."
@Jason Heilinger Hello, like my electric cars? That Elon Musk never credits me.
Absolutely love that lyric.
RUSH individually are all incredible musicans at the top of the talent tree. Geddy Lee is a killer bassist Alex Lifeson is one of the best guitarists hands down and Neil Peart was a Master on the drums. Combined they are AMAZING. I've seen them live 8 times here in Canada. Incredible! You should check out La Villa Strangiato or XYZ or Xanadu live in concert videos. đđšđŠđšđŠđŒđ¶đ”
Ive seen several shows in south Florida And had to buy tickets to treat the family to la Villa Strangiato at the Movies
Your comment made me think how amazing would it be to see Rush play YYZ live, at Pearson International Airport.
The drummer, Neil Peart, RIP, was one of the best drummers in rock history.
Is the best , Second to none RIP
@@tbonetabano8479 and you know what, I know some people would argue John Bonham, but for me, Neil is the best. His skill, time signature changes, speed, precision and intricate drum patterns and rolls are unmatched. Can Neil do Bonham stuff? Absolutely. But can Bonham replicate Neil? Doubt it. On top of that, Neil is an intellectual genius and lyricist, that's just icing on the cake. I think John is great, but he's seems to get the nod by a lot of people probably because of the mainstream popularity of his band. Personally, I'm a Stewart Copeland fan as well. But for pure talent, Neil is by far the best ever.
I think Bonham was more bombast than skill.
@@jgo7870 a very balanced view that I agree with strongly
Ive been rocking rush since the 70s greatest rock band of all time in my book they never sold out.
They are amazing
Greatest rock band that has ever been or ever will be.
Absolutely! That may even be an understatement. A Fairwell to a king. R.I.P. professor.
Correct.
Rush, formed in 1968 by Alex Lifeson, the guitarist and original member. 2 mo ths later came Geddy Lee the bassist and also Alex's friend. Roughly 6 years later came Neil Peart,,, and that's when things really started getting interesting!!!! Quite arguably the 3 most talented musicians in rock history...
I have liked rush since working man hit the scene back in the 70s . Oops . Yep I'm old and still working .. Much respect from Michigan .
Same here! Rock on đ€
I saw Rush 4 times. Each time the band was on point. No hiccups. No missed notes. In the 90's they're light show was only out done but Pink Floyd.
Beautiful woman listening to good music!
This song is from the 1981 album 'Moving Pictures', where are other classic songs. It's been 40 years since was released and will be celebrating this year, even in tribute to the drummer Neil Peart, who passed away in january 2020. Kisses from MaricĂĄ, RJ, Brazil
That "drummer" kills it in every song. He is a true percussionist, the best that ever lived. We will all miss him very much.
This song is from the "Moving Pictures" album released in 1981 (almost 40 years ago), and it is about his anxiety and shyness of dealing with the fans of Rush. The line " I can't pretend a stranger is a long-awaited friend." specifically talks about his feelings. Neil was an intelligent thinking introvert who would prefer to read a book or be on a bike (motorcycle or touring bicycle) by himself. Neil was a very private person (that's why no one knew about his cancer for 3 years), and didn't want to live in the "limelight" of being a rock star. He left the meet & greets to Geddy and Alex.
Neil was very much in tune with society at the time around him. His song Subdivisions was about Cliques in High School and how if you weren't with the "in crowd" you were ostracized. The song "Time Stand Still" was about the constant touring they were doing at that time and how he just wanted a break. This song ran true to me at a time in my life where I had to slow down and "just let the tide come around." I had to let time stand still for me, "catch my breath before I start off again." If you listen to "The Garden" the last song on their last album you will hear Neil saying goodbye to the fans and the touring. It was a little prophetic.
Rest in Peace Neil. You are the Professor, and you have taught a lot of us so much via your music. Live long Alex & Geddy, you both have had a great run.
I actually purchased this album when it first came out in 1981 and I still have it to this day great reaction by the way
A perfect example of showing a band moving from the 70's into the 80's.
The drummer was voted best rock drummer every year from 1980-1986. The bass guitarist was also voted best bassist for a few years in a row around this same time
The greatest drummer that ever lived
I think it makes a big difference when you can actually see the musicians playing their instruments. If someone only heard this song they might pass it off as 80's cheese, but when you can actually *see* them, I think it shows just how authentic they are and it actually adds to the song!
I agree
I have seen this band live over 20 times... they are unbelievably precise, tell very excellent stories and they make musicians want to go home and burn their guitars and drums. Rip Neil Peart....
Lol. Thanks.
Happy Tuesday my beautiful musical queen! This song came out in 1981 and that's when Rush were really going to a different musical route by being inspired by New Wave. Amazing reaction from a beautiful sunshine/shining star
Thanks so much
@@SimplyKSimone You're welcome my love!
So focused on Neil's drums and Alex's solo....then you notice how masterful Geddy's bass playing is.
đł I must re watch now
This song came out in 1981. I was 16 at the time. Great time to be alive! Thanks for posting. You did a great job!
One good thing about the internet is that the archives and history will always be there to come back to.
This came out in 1981, from the great Moving Pictures album!
I really appreciated and enjoyed your reaction. Thank you. It blows my mind as I think about the fact that I was first introduced to this band nearly 45 years ago.
Wow and thank you
One of my faves! Check the lyrics; it's a deep song about N.Peart's discomfort with fame, popularity and " living in the limelight".
There's lots of drums because that's Neil Peart- The Professor.
You wanted an evolution...here's one of the very last songs done in late 2012... Rush - Clockwork Angels Tour - The Garden czcams.com/video/EsBNzf5JlZA/video.html
and as for the drummer... Rush - Neil Peart Drum Solo (Rush 30th Anniversary Tour) czcams.com/video/Ri16-S1GDYg/video.html
this came out 1980....watch Neil kill those drums in one of his many drum solos
1981
November of 1980 as a single.
Neil Peart was arguably the greatest rock drummer of all time, and he wrote most of the band's lyrics. Geddy and Alex are incredible. I mean, Geddy played bass and keyboards at the same time in concert! I loved watching your mind get blown. This was such a large part of my youth, and you got it. Thank you for what you're doing, and keep doing what you're doing. Peace and love to you and yours during these crazy times.
Peace and love and thank you
You've got it right BIG D Dale that Rush is and will always be the most talented band in the đ world
Neil Peart and Bill Ward are my all time favorites drummer's.
When i make my music i try to make all my songs unique something i Learned listening to RUSH my favourite band LOVE RUSH BEST BAND EVER :)
such a beautiful outro solo
Agreed
RUSH were masterful and timeless! Musicians' musicians!
The album this song was from, Moving Pictures, was recorded in November and December 1980.
Thank you so much
and you know what, I know some people would argue John Bonham, but for me, Neil is the best. Not to mention an all around swell, humble guy. The whole band is humble and without ego.
Bonham fits Led Zeppelin and their Blues sculpted rock and roll sound. Neil Peart has his own sound also.... technically they were both capable and given time I'm sure Bonham would have become even more technically capable but Neil is a stickler for the rudiments while Bonham was a loud performance driven beast. I'm positive Neil could play circles around John, but sometimes John has a creativity that Neil lacks in some songwriting aspects. He is good at leaving things out and playing simply as needed. Stewart Copeland is also amazing and can sing and play together, just look at the Oysterhead with he, Les Claypool and Tre Anistasio...
Now I'm a big fan of Rod Morganstein who is definitely more like Neil, and dare I say is probably overlooked as technically as talented as anyone who plays like Neil but does not play in as groundbreaking a band as Rush... I also am a big big fan of Vinnie Colaiuta who I would purport to be as skilled on a kit as anyone alive. I think at some point you really just have to say that all of these amazing drummers are just fantastic and can probably play anything you throw at them but they like to do the stuff they like to do. I would love to see what people like Portnoy and Danny Carey are actually capable of playing.... like a jazz band with Danny Carey LOL!
The Clash is my favorite band but I really love all three times I saw Rush. Hugs.
And add Copeland they are all best for their bands and music we all love. No need for titles Mr # 1
Lest we forget that Danny Carey from TooL would kill all of them âïž
The reason I think Neil is best is his versatility, you compared him to Bonham, and said you thought Neil could play Bonham's parts. I think Neil could have played in any band you could name and play as well as their drummer with maybe a week to practice. I don't think anyone could replace Neil as the drummer in Rush. (We wont even include lyrics at this point.) That point made, I don't think Neil could replace any particular drummer to form a band's sound. His innovation would always sound like Rush, as his personality and intellect shaped his sound. The same goes for any of the big name drummers, or any musician for that matter. Carl Palmer may have come close, but would still have developed a different sound. Every artist has their own feel for what they do, and cannot be replaced while a band is finding itself, without changing the essential nature of the band. Rush without Neil wouldnt have been Rush, Led Zeppelin without Bonham wouldn't have been Led Zeppelin, The Police without Copeland wouldn't have been The Police, etc.
My favorite band! Seen them in concert 5x! I would just watch in awe there was just THREE men making incredible music. I believe it was in 70s
Epic legendary history of 3 great artists. đ Enjoyed it. ~ Marz
I've been listening to Rush since I bought "2112" on 8-track.
Mz Simone, did u notice in video, while the song was playing they used several footage of concerts and other sessions and they would cut back and forth and all was in synch. They was so technical and accurate and above all consistent. It didnt matter if they were showing a 1981 concert or 1990 of same song it all matched. Their timing was phenomenal.
If you enjoy progressive rock, I sincerely believe you will LOVE symphonic metal, in particular Nightwish. Check out their song Ghost Love Score, live in Wacken 2013.... and prepare to have your mind blown! (Oh, and the Nightwish Army come by to say hi and thank you!)
Good music is appreciated by any given people, but I admit it: more than once I'd show black friends Rush just to get an odd kick of how much they dug it. I'm talking 80's not long after Moving Pictures was released. Then they would show me music and it was fun (got me started on listening to funk and hip hop), music is a spirit ambassador.
Walking towards 60 myself and have been a musician since my birth. The band Rush and everything associated with them are Marvels and works of Miracles. The bands story alone is worth the 30 days of reflection, not including the personal victories in each members personal life. To be blessed (as a drummer/percussionist) I myself have only 2 other groups that compare or even measure up to the team of Rush. For me Neil, Alex, Geddy and the infamous and FANTASTIC road crew Family of all things Rush. Ive seen them 13 times since the 70s, pre 2112. Caress of Steel and Farewell to Kings are 2 albums that will set you up for a Rush journey you will adore for a lifetime. If you still have a pulse by the time you reach the Hemispheres album (Priceless Piece...Rembrandt Like), you may end up going to sleep by being reassured by "The Garden". A song on one of the last couple albums they as a group performed and shared with those of us who are forever changed by the intent, the love and the FAMILY atmosphere ONLY a Rush fan will understand. I miss Neil very much and his desire for Life, the band members trust, faith and SUPPORT for their brother Neil is without bounds. Thank you for your support of my friends and dear MASTERS of their art...RUSH.
Gods best friends.

I love Rush. Seriously.
Are you aware both Peart did not/ do not believe in God? Alex I have no idea.
Your review was so respectful and sincere...it's nice to see that kind of reaction to one of the best bands ive ever heard...
I liked this kind of music, great reviewđđđœ
Cool Iâll have to do more
Released February 28, 1981

This song is from 1981 -- If you enjoy Prag Rock try "Roundabout" by YES. It is from 1971 and is a classic beginning of Prag ...
Loved your response. Early 80âs and neil kills it on all of their songs He also wrote a lot of the lyrics. Your are correct about prog rock, great observation. And you are just as cute and positive as they come! Cheers!
LUVD THE REACTION!!!!!!
Another amazing group that is currently out there today Is Band Maid. 5 beautiful phenomenal Japanese woman musicians. Killer songs, great musicianship, as well as charismatic live performers !
Me and my buddy drove around one weekend and played this tape NON-STOP for 3 days
Itâs a great song I can see why
Welcome to the Rush family Simone.....
1981. I saw them in concert when they were touring this album.
Nicely done ...you know I love my Rush reactions.....you could give Xanadu....Exit Stage Left version a go....you wonât be disappointed. âïž

You call it progressive rock, I call it
ROCK n ROLL!
Hi hun! Here watching đ
Thanks beautiful
It was 1981, but as far as I'm concerned it could have been yesterday!
They were not called the best band in the galaxy for nothing. I saw them two times live here in Germany and those were the f...in best concerts I ever saw. Their musicianship is simply awesome. The only band that comes close (just MY taste, so don't yell at me) to ME is Babymetal (though i'm not really a metal fan and by no means a J-Pop fan). I'm more into classic rock like Kansas, Boston, Queen, AC/DC etc, but Rush got my absolute fav (I think it was about 1980)
Rush is always a top favorite. Check out Rush, Le Villa Strangiato. Instrumental. Amazing
Neil. The professor. RIP.
This is def my favorite Alex Lifeson solo of all time. It just crushes me every time
Look up Neil's drum sol live in Frankfurt, Germany.....think you'd love that!
Love the channel ..Beautiful host!
Nicely done dear!
Might I suggest you continue down the Rush rabbit hole. You wonât regret that life changing decision.
They are the best Simone
My late husband was a drummer so he listen to all types of music, Iâm pleased to say I have heard of Rush and this song from my hubby. My hubby would talk about technique, I donât know all the ends and outs but being married to a drummers I learned a lot
Yes I remember you saying that before .. super cool
Neil Peart is known as "The Professor". Intellectual genius and always was hungry to learn more.
Album: Moving Pictures - 1981
The song came out in 1981.
I couldn't get your live video to play . I hope I didn't say anything wrong . Much love from Michigan .

You should react to classic Moody Blues from the late 60's period the 7 core albums great stuff there
Alex and Geddy have been friends since they were kids.
