People who adapt to their changing circumstances in life have been studied by doctors and psychiatrists and studies have proven these are the individuals who are the most psychologically sound and healthy.

    They kinda glossed over it so FYI... she's been suffering from severe Inflammatory Arthritis (RA) since the 90's which is an auto immune disease much like MS and Lupus. First line treatment is typically Methotrexate which is a chemo drug... only difference is you take it low dose and for the rest of your life. Methotrexate interrupts your cells ability to use folic acid in order to replicate (why it slows growth of cancer cells). Unfortunately it can do that to every cell in your body, including cells produced in excess by your immune system (auto immune disease)... so for RA its like little mini chemo treatments once weekly forever... cause RA is chronic and incurable for most people. Prednisone use is also common especially in the past, which causes uncontrollable weight gain amongst other nasty side effects... these days looked upon as a last resort. RA is also often ten times more painful than Osteoarthritis... which is what most people think of as Arthritis. Of all the reasons to drink its a pretty understandable one. Most people with severe RA experience significant mobility issues within 10 years of diagnosis so depression is very common because it turns your life upside down. It looks to me shes now on some of the newer Biologic therapies (control symptoms much better), the first of which hit the market about 20 years ago, and it looks like she has managed to get some of her life back! Good for her, I hope she keeps Fighting!

    Turner is such a fighter. If people only knew the hell RA is. The medicine is more dangerous than the disease and if one doesn’t kill you the other will. Hats off to this incredible actor!

    • @vs52217
      @vs52217 Před 6 lety +18

      I was diagnosed with RA 20 years ago. I didn't want to go on drugs, knowing the side effects. So I did some research and found that high doses of pantothenic acid (vitamin B5) could help. Tried that - 500mg 3x/day, and was cured. Beware of doctors.

    • @JaimeMesChiens
      @JaimeMesChiens Před 6 lety +11

      Valerie S you did “research” as in laboratory, double-blind studies, peer-review in a scientific journal, or google “research.”
      If the latter, you owe it to the world to get all your diagnostic medical notes and get yourself here to New Haven to Yale Medical School.
      A team of over-a-hundred scientists have been working tirelessly for decades to unlock RA. Since you’re cured yours, you should be evaluated to help others.
      Yes, the treatment is horrible, but you’re incorrect that the “medicine is more-dangerous-then the disease.” The adverse actions (“side effects”) of the traditional
      steroid-methotrexate cocktail can be unpleasant. But auto immune diseases will, indeed, “kill you”in a horrible manner.
      This is why millions of dollars are being funnelled into real research by real scientists at real universities. And there has been real progress with the current generation of anti-auto immunity meds and gene-based therapies.
      If a human has RA for twenty years and treated it with high doses of vitamin, one would expect that human to be in renal failure, in incapacitated, probably dead, as the expected life span of patient with RA who is untreated by science-based, scientifically-proven medicine and treatments is approx ten years.
      I’m sorry another commenter believes that MDs (and PhDs, I guess, since she stated “doctors” without qualifying any type doctor) are bad.
      Scientists are working hard to disentangle auto-immune disorders. Funding for all federal scientific research is at a near-stand still and private funding is seldom enough.
      So, since you’d be among the very few who’ve experienced remission, we would like to study (“research”) whether your remission is spontaneous and the vitamin therapy spurious, or if your body chemistry can help us unlock the horrible disorder. Of course, we know that vitamins do not cure autoimmune disorders. REAL research has ruled out most-of these pseudoscience”cures” decades ago.
      Without further info, I’d hypothesise that you either experienced a rare spontaneous remission, or more-commonly, were misdiagnosed. I’m assuming that you know that osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis are quite-different entities.

    • @vs52217
      @vs52217 Před 6 lety +11

      Yes, I know the difference between RA and osteoarthritis. The medical establishment is hardly the "real" research. It is driven by money and the drug companies and there is no real research on natural cures because there isn't the billions of dollars in payoff that there would be for artificial drugs. You think you know everything but you don't know what the hell you are talking about.

    • @TamGar
      @TamGar Před 6 lety +1

      Doubt her doctors are unaware.... she's been suffering from severe Inflamatory Arthritis (RA) since the 90's which is an auto immune disease much like MS and Lupus. It looks to me shes now on some of the newer Biologic therapies (control symptoms much better), the first of which hit the market about 20 years ago, and it looks to like she has managed to get some of her life back! Good for her, I hope she keeps Fighting!

    • @Gina-Montana

      Tamara Garland I’m not really sure what any other autoimmune disease would have to do with simply giving this woman the thyroid replacement it appears she desperately needs to get rid of this goiter 🤷🏻‍♀️. Millions of people live with a cascade of AI disease and ignoring one in favor of aggressively treating another is not very smart. If my dr left me like this, he/she would be fired immediately.

    • @TamGar
      @TamGar Před 6 lety +2

      I was referring to Hashimotos Disease which is autoimmune.... often comes hand in hand with RA so her doctors are likely aware. unfortunately simply supplementing thyroid does not always solve a goiter as some of the swelling can be Inflamatory as its an auto immune attack on the thyroid gland. It also can come and go for many years before the thyroid stops functioning and full time replacement therapy is needed. You can also have swollen glands in your neck from the RA that can make neck swelling look worse as well as moon face from too much prednisone. It can get complicated and often people sufferring for that length of time get kinda fed up with doctors.

    • @Gina-Montana
      @Gina-Montana Před 6 lety +2

      Tamara Garland I have Hashimoto’s and replacement, at the right dose and the right replacement option, absolutely does most *always* shrink both goiters and nodules. Unless she has a toxic goiter, which would be biopsied and removed if any of this has, in fact, been addressed. You’d be so surprised at how many people walk around with goiters, even worse than hers, and it gets ignored. Her thinning hairline and deeper voice could also be a clue to being hypothyroid.

    • @TamGar
      @TamGar Před 6 lety +1

      Hmm... well I guess we dont all have the same experience with it. I have had RA for 13 years and several of the medications can cause hair thinning and loss as well. Id been suspicious of thyroid issues for about 8 years but, until 4 years ago they couldn't catch it during an "attack"... finally had the throat swelling and other symptoms during a week that I had a Rheumy appointment so he could finally see it. This time my blood tests were out of range and finally he ordered an antibody test. So did get a firm diagnosis of Hashis... yet mine has still been quite transient. Can come and go in as little as 10 days I also have yet to develop a large goiter, a lot of my swelling has been from actual auto immune inflammation as it responds to steroids to a degree. Which I did resort to twice when the thyroid pills weren't making all the swelling go down even after several weeks. I developed a heart arrhythmia 11 years ago and have high risk for Osteoporosis (due to RA and meds) so my Rheumy has chosen not to put me on full time replacement therapy, I only take it when the swelling is active and I feel extra crappy. My tests indicate that my levels go back to normal in between attacks so he wants to avoid excess hormone in my system as that can aggravate the bone loss issue and the heart rhythm problem. I think because I'm on immunosuppressive therapy for the RA my Hashis disease course is likely to be different. It does seem to correlate with times the RA inflammation was also not well controlled. I dont think that most people with just Hashis are put on immuno-suppressants like those who had RA etc first, which is why I was suggesting in Kathleens case it might be more complicated. BUT I do hope for her sake she does have a Rheumy who is keeping tabs on her thyroid (like any decent RA doc should). Maybe shes just super busy promoting her book and hasn't got a chance to get in to she her doc for an adjustment in her meds.
