    My alienware13 r3 still works great almost a year later. It's small enough to let you play games pretty much anywhere. In the car or even in a cramped coach seat on a plane, this laptop just works. It's still pushing out over 60fps from modern games in late 2018 too. I could not be happier with this thing.

      @@Adam-zb5kk my Alienware 13 r3 has:
      i7-7700hq
      GTX 1060 6gb
      16gb ddr4 2400
      Also I have the IPS screen, which won't experience oled burn in.
      On battery I can play games for about an hour. If I am just on Google the battery can last around two hours if you set everything to power saving. I don't use this laptop on battery very often though. You will get much better results if you plug it in to a wall. In all of the situations I listed above I had access to electrical outlets. The laptop is still very small and convenient to carry around though. It is possible to play games on battery but that will half your performance even with power saving turned off.

      No offense... Alienware laptops have never been good value for money compared to other laptops. They're almost like Apple in that the customers are paying extra just for the brand (and the fancy extra features that folks will honestly not use that much). I'd have expected a good laptop with a good GPU to be a bit more affordable by now, but the prices stay the same as the older GPUs get phased out for the new pricey ones.

    People hate on Alienware so much. Yes, their products are overpriced, and yes, some of their components are not of amazing quality. But you gotta admit, that for some people at least, they love the aesthetic. And when you're a gamer with 3 grand to spend on a laptop, and you're looking for a smaller form factor, you can't deny that this is a solid option. There are quite a lot of gaming laptops on the market, and it really is your own opinion. But people who bash on Alienware simply because they hear everyone else hate on it are just plain stupid.

      Its not bad, but as someone who bought a gaming laptop once, the main issue is your gpu becomes irrelevant very very fast, and cant upgrade (a large box accessory doesnt count). So a similar desktop would be able to survive with $500 upgrades every two years, while the laptop would be pretty bad in year 3-4

      ***** take a chill pill and reread my comment. I was talking about the four ports of USB C from the new MacBook Pro. As I said, we're still in a transitional period from various I/O standards to a unified standard which is USB C, and it's annoying for NOW as we require lots of dongles/adapters UNTIL manufacturers finally adopts USB C and gives out a shitload of adapters just like the good old days. The only benefit USB C can give me now is display/charging capabilities, but then again that requires me to get a new monitor/projector with that capability.

    If Alienware can add an OLED touch display option to the 15 inch model I'll probably pick it up over the Razer Blade. I love the rear I/O port design of the new Alienwares and the good thermal performance/low noise. My biggest issue with the Razer Blade is the placement of the Thunderbolt port on the left side. As a left handed user that placement seriously interferes with the use of a wired mouse. Another good thing about the 15"/17 Laptops is that they include a 240w power brick with the 1070 models, unlike Razer which ships a 160w adaptor with the Razer Blade that is so close to maxing out that draw that it gets extremely hot and may have a reduced life span/start a fire. I love the 2016 Razer Blade's design, but the Noise/Heat combined with the hostility to lefties is too much of a trade off for the increased portability/battery life.

    theres a reason for the added heft and cost of an alienware laptop
    durability
    i tripped over while carrying my alienware 14 2015 model (i was stupidly watching a video while going from my yard to inside my house) and it hit the (concrete) floor very hard and i landed on top of it
    the only damage was to the HDD (head crash destroyed the drive as expected) and the chassis is slightly bent upward on the rear left corner (you cant see it unless you are looking for it) even the screen and hinge didnt break (which surprised me the most)
    all i had to do was buy an SSD install windows and i was up and running again
    i did take it to the repair shop to see if anything was damaged and it got a clean bill of health
    even the store owner was surprised that nothing else was damaged when i described the drop
    i cant see any other laptop (apart from military grade) surviving that sort of impact without needing a trip to the local PC repair shop
    i just wish they would improve the battery life (you need at least a 12 cell battery to get any useful gaming time out of one)
    with a brand new battery i am lucky to get 40 min of crysis 3 out of mine on minimum settings and low brightness
    in power saving mode with minimum screen brightness and RGB lighting off i cant even get through 1 movie without the battery dying on me 3/4 of the way through
    it also suffers from severe overheating (even before i dropped it) with core temps of 50C at idle and 80C in crysis 3

    3.2kg? That's the typical weight on an mid-end gaming 17.3" laptop!

    • @KingMORe666

    • @OrangeRock
      @OrangeRock Před 7 lety +5

      Actually it's size then weight..
      What is more portable?
      A 5 inch phone that weights 500g
      Or 10 inch tab that weights 200g?..

    • @ScientistDog
      @ScientistDog Před 7 lety +2

      A comparison with a phone is not valid, we are talking of probably around 4kg with the power adapters and cables, that it's quite a lot in your bag if you are carrying some other stuff too
      .
      Both are important, but if there isn't a balance between both, it kinds of kill it portability.

    • @OrangeRock
      @OrangeRock Před 7 lety

    • @PFAlt
      @PFAlt Před 7 lety

      I'd don't mind weight as long as it stays at a max of 20kg. Size is definitely more of an issue.
      Have you ever tried to lift a 50kg 10" cube (anything really, a box etc) against something 5ft long but only 10kg? I'm certainly taking this to an extreme, but it harder to hold the larger box, simply due to its size.
      I'd know the difference, as a own a 17" MSI GT72, a 15" Sony Viao, and a 13" Dell Latitude mini, and even a 10" Dell chromebook.
      Although my Viao is lighter than both the chromebook and latitude mini, it's size still puts me off even though since I'm only using it for light tasks 8 time out of 10. If i might be gaming, I'm still going to be getting my Viao 15" as it handles light gaming well even it weighs only a kg less than my msi (mostly due to the fact the viao is metal steel/aluminum build), the viao can actually fit into most bags without me requiring to pick up another bag that is used to carry 17"+ laptops+accessories exclusively and nothing else.

      The way OLED emits light is by breaking down it's diodes a little bit. They have a shorter life than classical LED displays. OLED is also susceptible to burn-in if you leave images on the screen for long enough.

      back in 2010 they probably had their best laptop design ever, seems it all went downhill from that point really.
      i mean seriously.... an Alienware M15x laptop from 2010 could literally be upgraded manually from its old gpu to the latest and greatest mobile GPU that came in a mPCI-e format, i believe that was the GTX970m, i am not sure about the 10th series of mobile gpu's.
      you could even upgrade its CPU to the highest in the line of back then which is an intel i7-940mx which is an intel extreme processor (i think it came with i7-720qm).
      and to top all of that, the M15x looked freaking cool and even had all of these 9 areas RGB lighting zones like every gaming laptop has today.
      seriously, Alienware made their best laptops back in 2010, even the M13x and M17x were both epic.

      What's the point of making these thin and light gaming notebooks if your going to need something like Alienware's graphic amp anyway for high demand gameplay? Dragging a small laptop plus a large heavy graphic amp is more work then just moving a single beefy laptop with something like dual 1080 graphic cards already inside.

      alienware laptops are not designed to look like a macbook
      they have a certain aesthetic that i happen to like
      but they are tough as nails in terms of durability (well mine is anyway)

      I own one and it looks great with leds turned off. Once you see it in person the black and aluminium contrast of the design looks awesome.

    i am really impressed with this laptop, but if i'm going to get a laptop that is SPECIFICALLY for gaming and video editing/heavy work load tasks, i want at least a 15" screen, preferably a 17".
    really great to see this offering on the market rn though!

    I own this laptop with the standard display, and it's still great even without OLED. I think the keyboard is fantastic.

    It isn't a laptop if you can't rest it comfortably on your lap . . .

    a better way to test response time is to attach an led to one of the mouse buttons and have it light up when the button is pressed so you can get it as close as possible to the real response time.
