      Does Dell offer the i5 model in the UK?
      Here in Germany the Dell 7559 starts at 1099€....
      (Because the decided to put an i7 into an budget Gaming laptop)
      Otherwise this Notebook looks awesome in every aspect, the large battery, upgradebility, design and so on....

Have been using it for some light CAD work and to run small simulations. Even though I couldn’t currently play big titles but I can still play things like CSGO smoothly with this laptop...planning to put in an SSD (HDD alone is super-slow) and add some RAM...This baby has served me for years...wouldn’t go for a new laptop while this machine is still good for everyday use...

    I think you missed a big point for a laptop in this review: temps. I have what could be considered a "budget gaming laptop" with an i7 3630QM and a GTX650 and EVERY time I play anything starts getting to 80°-90° on both CPU and GPU. What about this one?

      @TommyThousandFaces Před 8 lety +12

      ccjh0806 Yeah, it's in celsius. Nice, that's cool (pun intended). I know it's pretty hot that's why I run it on a cooling pad with 5V fans but I think I also need to change the toothpaste used by HP with something better I have around.

    • @ccjh0806
      @ccjh0806 Před 8 lety +2

      +TommyThousandFaces I also think it's probably just because of the Raw heat your laptop produces. A 3rd Gen i7 produces a lot more heat than this Skylake i5, the newer GPUs probably produces less heat too =) This is a good option to consider for you!

    • @TommyThousandFaces
      @TommyThousandFaces Před 8 lety

      Theyn Smith I don't know, they look kinda loud tbh and my laptop is already kinda loud with both CPU and GPU under load.
      ccjh0806 That's for sure! Well I might buy the i7 version if I can get a reasonable amount of money back for the one I already own. One reason I won't buy it is the undetachable battery because when I'm at home I don't run it off of the battery. Also I'll surely miss the fingerprint reader.

When someone else used the keyboard the first comment was "wow this types great". The wifi does suck, I replaced mine with a killer wireless ac-1535 card. The touchpad is ok in my opinion. Some thoughts after using this as my daily driver for uni work and gaming since August 2016:
    At 1:24 - The hinge is smooth when new, but the screws securing it on the top left side tend to snap off the plastic shell, leaving only the bottom screw holding it and requiring tightening every month.
    The display, whilst IPS, doesn't offer the best colour gamut and crushes blacks badly - typical of cheaper IPS displays. Worse, the hue is slightly off, leading to content I create on here looking different than intended on any other display.
    The keyboard I agree is one of the worst parts - little travel can make it difficult to get used to (though much better than the Butterfly keyboards on Macs in that regard!). I disagree with the touchpad though, it is very responsive - just wish it had dedicated left / right mouse buttons to help with gaming.
    As for cooling, it keeps fairly cool when gaming. However, for CPU-focused loads like video rendering, the unit gets very loud and gives high CPU temperatures of around 85 degrees. GPU temps are much more reasonable though. I have the i7 version, so this may change things in this regard.
    Also, there's a reason why you were so impressed by the 960M: it is essentialy a GTX 750ti in a laptop, with slightly higher core and lower memory clocks.

    I am watching this video on the Inspiron 7559 (I have the second model from the left on the Dell website screenshot in the video--1080p non-touch with an i7). I bought this for college back when it was a relevant machine in mid-2016 because I was (and am still not) comfortable taking my rig in a three and a half hour car ride to school with all of my other stuff, and also because I desperately needed an upgrade from my early 2011 MacBook Pro (the novelty was fun while it lasted and it's still useful in some aspects even to this day because I'm an iPhone user, but I grew up with PCs and I still think nothing can beat Windows).
    I would say that this video is a very fair review of this computer. Day-to-day tasks are no problem, Chrome runs fine with several tabs open although it does eat up about 50% or more of the stock 8GB of RAM, so it is not a multitasking system to my disappointment, but that could easily be fixed if I decided to go for another RAM module. Most games that I play run great with absolutely no issues. The most taxing game I've tried to play on here is Rise of the Tomb Raider, and with DX12 turned on and the resolution turned down several notches, I can actually pull near 60 FPS with mid-high graphics settings. I'm not a build quality freak, but Linus is right about the trackpad and keyboard. I do not like using this trackpad, and I very quickly got an entry-level Logitech wireless mouse that performs ten times better. About the keyboard, I find that sometimes I will press a key in some kind of way it doesn't like to be pressed (particularly when a word has same letter twice in a row, like "pressed" or "letter") and it will add an extra keystroke. Annoying, but not the biggest problem in the world, though.
    The bigger problems I've had with this laptop are actually related to blue screening and complete freezing. Yeah, I know, you probably just said "yikes" in your head, but thankfully I've been mostly lucky. Sometimes when I would plug in the AC adapter, I would get a weird error message and eventually blue screen. I looked up the error message and it had something to do with Adobe something or other. Considering at the point this started happening I had recently... um... very legally downloaded Photoshop, I decided to get rid of all the Adobe stuff on my computer and start again with Acrobat Reader and the like. I stopped getting blue screens, but still, once or twice it would freeze; holding the power button would bring up a blank black screen (still lit by the display), and it would not turn off. I had to wait for the battery to die and just hope that nothing bad would happen the next time. I was not doing anything incredibly taxing so I don't think it's related to internal temperature, but maybe Windows putting too much demand on the slow mechanical hard drive had something to do with it considering even Windows background processes will shoot the disk usage up to 100% in the time right after startup. Who can know for sure, though.
    Like I said, I've actually happened to be very lucky as I've had nothing catastrophic happen in the past several months. I've since updated my BIOS, my chipset drivers, finally downloaded GeForce Experience for updated graphics drivers, and everything has been pretty fine so far. Unfortunately, it is a 15" laptop and it is too heavy and sweat-inducing for me to take around on my back at my large university campus in Florida, so I've had to go back to my Mac and cry about its almost-dead-thanks-to-old-Flash-CZcams battery. I'm now stuck because I don't know whether to upgrade my seven year old Mac so it stops sucking, or increase the performance of this computer, but that's something I need to figure out on my own.
    Overall, I've enjoyed using this computer, just like every other I've gotten from Dell. I was looking for a budget gaming laptop, and that is definitely what this is. I so wish this had a 1050 Ti in it like the current model does, but considering when it was made and how much good it's done me, I really can't complain much.

    I am still rocking this laptop today, its still very good for everything i do - light gaming (Dota 2, older games), basic office work, some photoshop, inkscape ... cant say it didnt pay for itself already. Only thing i did was upgrade to M.2 257 Gb SSD.

      If it does get a GPU upgrade, don't expect it to be a 1060. Nvidia is putting the laptop 1060 GPU as a replacement to the 970m. My guess is that if Nvidia made a laptop 1050 GPU, it would go in here.

    Are there any Windows laptops with good trackpads? You've gotta owe it to Apple, the trackpad on the Macs is pretty damn good. For Windows laptops, even if your trackpad is okay, it will be useless if you're stuck with Elantech drivers and not Synaptics.

      This laptop can run fallout 4 on ultra 1080p with fast enough frames to not notice, the keyboard I dont think is actually that bad, its not great. The mouse pad sucks, but it's usable when you need to use it. The coloring on the screen isn't that great but with a monitor its great and it's easy to deal with dull colors when you are remote. It's definitely a good computer for the price I got it at and probably for the full price too.
