Black Sabbath out Pink Floyding Pink Floyd. The lyrics were mainly from the bass played Geezer Butler, a very gifted lyricist, and the music written by Tony Iommi.
Never heard this before. REALLY dig the psychedelic vibe. Never knew Sabbath had done any psychedelic rock at all! Great trippin’ music. Trip-hop decades before trip-hop was a thing
To be clear, pretty much all of Black Sabbath’s songs on their first 4 albums would be in the realm of “heavy psych” or “heavy psych rock”, but none of them sound like Planet Caravan.
I literally have that song on replay everyday they are really underrated who are from SF and that’s coming from someone who lives in the Bay. I highly suggest he checks Fresh Air out by QMS.🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻😤🔥🔥🔥😮💨😮💨😮💨
ozzy sang through a Leslie speaker that was made for a Hammond B3 organ . The Leslie is a 2 speaker unit but the top speaker spins giving that under water sound
They ran Ozzy's vocals through a Leslie rotating speaker cabinet for the vocal effect. Pantera has a great cover of this. It's the last track on far beyond driven.
Was just listening again to your review of STRAWBERRY FIELDS... anyway this is off topic but you have to check out the live video of GRAND FUNK RAILROAD doing INSIDE OUT. KILLER,,,you are going to dig the groove, They were the top band in 69 in the USA
Geezer Butler (the bassist) is a master lyricist. Severely under-rated. Now that you've heard a bunch, I will highly suggest Wheels of Confusion (including The Straightener), Sabbath Bloody Sabbath, and Megalomania.
I love your thoughtful views on music. BTW, Geezer Butler was the lyric genius. Listening to this in the early 70's was best on vinyl "records" because of how smooth this song was placed between Paranoid and then Iron Man!
This track is more slow tempo, chill, losing yourself through time and space. It’s definitely a vibe and can only imagine what a trip it would be with some dope lol. I can definitely see a PF vibe in there when you mentioned it. Absolutely one of my favorites from Black Sabbath!🙌🏻👌🏻🔥🔥🔥
Nice reaction; I always get goose flesh on that song. I'm pretty sure that is not Ozzy singing on this particular song (that may be why it was distorted a little). It is well known that Geezer writes a lot of the lyrics. That said, Bro you got like 6 albums to work through :O) Black Sabbath, Paranoid, Master of Reality, Vol 4, Sabbath Bloody Sabbath, and Sabotage. I like the albums after Sabotage but some people don't. Have FUN
Sounds like a FLANGER or PHASE SHIFTER on the vocal. Some of the old tape echo's would warble or flange the repeats. Or some times they would drag a finger on the edge of the tape reel (the flange) hence the name
@@mojobag01 My 14 year old daughter is getting into the BEATLES so we have been listening to ABBEY ROAD when I take her to school and i began to notice how much :Leslie" is on that album, its everywhere
Geezer wrote most of the lyrics with Ozzy chipping in a few. You say psychedelia. But what you're really hearing is Iommis love of jazz coming through. If this track blows your mind then listen to Symptom Of The Universe from the album Sabotage. One of the heaviest, most metal tracks ever put to tape and a huge influence on loads of later metal bands. Like I say, it's a very heavy tune, but then you hit the outro section and it becomes something else entirely. Absolutely beautiful and for my money probably Ozzys most impassioned vocal ever recorded. Give it a listen.
I strongly recommend listening to this album in it’s entirety. Each song is is placed masterfully on the record. No song should be skipped. Electric Funeral and Fairies Wear Books are often overlooked and I don’t understand why.
Yeah... an incredible song, mood, atmosphere.. Those lyrics in verse one as you've hung them up there... They are my vibe... 'The moon in silver dreams, pours down in beams '....
This came out when I was in my teens. One of the first times I got high was listening to this on a friends fathers’ high-end stereo - a hot summer night laying under the stars in their back yard. Magical. It still is.
Iommi riffs and music, Butler lyrics (although Ozzy wrote also) and Ozzy came up with the melodies. Black Sabbath had no time musically--Ozzy sang to the music with no time--it is a great talent. With Black Sabbath the melodies, the riffs and awesome rhythm section puts them above all bands--above Zeppelin-Rainbow-Blue Oyster Cult, they are unmatched. It was the perfect union of anger, disappointment and the discovery of drugs.
If you like Tony’s playing in this one you should definitely check out some of the little instrumental 2 min songs on their early albums. My personal favorite is Orchid, but they are all beautiful and really shows how great Iommi is
If you like this, you need to hear Sleeping Village from the first album, it is part of the intro suite that evolved into the heavy blues/metal monster that is Warning. The suite is: A Bit of Finger/Sleeping Village/Warning. Tony Iommi lets loose in Warning but the intro before is quite atmospheric and part of the menacing vibe of their debut album. Try it sometime, it will blow you away! Enjoy. 🎵🎸🎤🎶
ask any of the top 50 artists today to drop a jazz cut into their album. Maybe four can do a job anywhere like this? I bet 10-15 could do it in the 60s and 70s
Agreed. All respect given to Sabbath for creating the song, but the Pantera version is one of the few times the cover far surpassed the original. It's near a perfect song, and I can't name one other Pantera song that I actually care much for.
Did you know the bass player Geezer, writes most of the lyrics. But of course it OZZy's interpretation of those words that brought them to life
yeah geezer butler is awesome
Tony Iommi has 2 fingers on his fretting hand that the ends of the fingers were cut off in a work accident. He made home made fingers tips
If Black Sabbath was the Grateful Dead. Great reaction. Maybe try sabbath song “Supernaut” from their amazing Vol4 album with Ozzy

@@Alderak1Solitude and Zeitgeist a little bit
This was one of my go to songs in the late 70s to chill too after a night of too much partying when the bed wont stop spinning
Paranoid is a masterpiece of an album Sabbath and Ozzy so underrated they are top five bands of all time
Hey now! Solitude is a cool mellow song by Sabbath
I really wish someone would react to Quicksilver Messenger Service- what about me or Fresh Air
Love that band! They never get any love.

@@w.geoffreyspaulding6588 czcams.com/video/URb53Wd7Swo/video.html is this it? I found out that this was one of their lost recordings.

ozzy sang through a Leslie speaker that was made for a Hammond B3 organ . The Leslie is a 2 speaker unit but the top speaker spins giving that under water sound
This band is the soundtrack of my life. Since my first listen in 1973! Thanks Jim and Jeff for leading me to Sabbath.

Sounds like I'M spaced out, in that hippy psychedelic way.......great song.
Always Been One Of My Favorite Tracks To Just Chill & Vibe Out With..There Are Tracks Of This On Repeat For Hours That You Can Find/Listen To.

You have to get below the surface, and put aside the heavy metal label, to really explore the incredible depth of Sabbath.

You need to drop back to their first album, and check out, "Bit of Finger".
Hand of doom is probably their best song
Their song "Solitude" has a similar vibe. And their whole album Vol. 4 is arguably more psychedelic rock than metal by today's standards.
Been listening to this song for a few decades and this is the first time I have read the lyrics.........

There is the coolest vid of this on YT. It is all from the perspective of a spacecraft travelling through space.
The spacecraft is the planet Earth

Love your show. Quick correction-Geezer Butler wrote the majority of lyrics, including these.
The song is about lovers going through the universe

Electric funeral
For heavier tracks
It rather evokes an Arabian TENT in the desert - very ornate

Galactic tripping
No, Geezer wrote every song they ever did: "no one else would!"

I thought Ozzy wrote the lyrics Tony wrote the music with Geezer?
