Well if each one of these useless ships costed 655 million dollars imagine what a fleet of these useless ships would cost, U.S. may loose a potential war because of bankruptcy, on the other hand it may just make U.S. unappealing as a target because whomever conquers it would have to pay enormous debt.

As flawed, over engineered, vulnerable, unreliable, and ineffective as the LCS program is, it was never intended to fight a blue water war with another major power such as China. This program was developed during the beginning of the war on terror, when the Navy was shifting it's focus and priority away from a blue water force and more towards a brown and green water force, in order to support land forces, hence "Littoral Combat Ship". It's a disaster, but its not the ship class that's gonna have much of a role in a blue water conflict with China.
No, there is the Seawoolf and Zumwalts to cover the blue water fighting.

I worked on the LCS, and i can tell you that you can sink that ship with a claw hammer.
I served in the LCS program on the Freedom variants, and I wholeheartedly agree with this.
Why was approved if it wasn't some sort of true breakthrough? Was it actually fast?

The problem I find with this logic is this: If you have a problem with the LCS, then you should be having a problem with the new aircraft carriers too. They are having problems with their catapults and various things too!
I think the Ford class carriers will be more reliable as more are built.
The carriers have problems, yes. But they aren’t completely incapable of performing their designed function. LCS were designed to provide artillery support to ground troops, and a literally completely incapable of doing that.
@@alexanderfreeman3406 I’m not sure that even frigates or destroyers can do that. The only ships that can do that are currently in Mothballs. The Iowa Class Battleships can provide that. But….
I work in the LCS program and can testify that this video only scratches the surface about all the things wrong with this abomination of a ship.
In wwII they had a shallow water boat call PT 109 that was made out of plywood. It was successful. The arm chair admirals should have left it for the crews to design.

I remember seeing these when they first came out- just knowing they would have some kind of crippling problem, and wondering where they would even be effective. They look cool, I bet they'd be fun in working order.
The "cool looking" ones don't have all of the problems. They're the indepence class. The freedom class is the one that doesn't have a functioning ship-all the mechanical failures and so forth.
By the way: the navy doesn't make ships. It always contracts them out to ship-builders.

As an Indian.. Even we don't fear them.. And we are firing both china and pak frequently! Chinese army was stopped and beaten of from capturing parts of our neighboring country Bhutan 2 years before by Indian army and now a standoff is going on in ladakh.. Pak ruling party is army controlled and chinese army is party controlled... Both are insecure, especially chinese.. So a country like US would not need to worry about them..!

I've never seen a littoral combat ship conducting a live fire exercise. They look super cool though.
other group have made the idea the lcs was meant to fill work out but for less if they took the time to find a powerplant that worked and had it a small short range ship it had a slim chance of working out.

Last I had seen and heard they are only retiring the first 4. Which were the test bed ships of the two classes.
Apparently they plan to use the rest that have had a lot of the issues solved. And are supposedly going to continue research into the modular ship concept for future development.
Those four were never upgraded and were used to identify maintenance issues and other testing.
They would be projected to cost $2B to upgrade, hence decommissioned.
Plot twist: they already accomplished building the LCS project
And 1 yr after this video, 4/1/22, i read how the Navy Budget Office recommended scrapping the Freedom Class LCS ships. One of them is only 2 yrs old.
LCS has more ships then, DDG zumwalt or seawolf submarine class of ship.

Making a vessel unnecessarily complex is begging for unexpected errors & problems.
In my opinion, I think the US Navy should "explore" the option of a next generation diesel/electric submarine. An excellent option to a close in combat vessel.

I’d support a high/low mix of nuke subs & AIP diesel-electrics. Japan & Israel have some incredibly cable AIP subs that can accomplish a lot of what a nuke sub can do for a fraction of the cost.
The F-35 project also had the objective of lowering development costs. And we all know how well it went.

The Navy hasn't built a ship at a Navy owned shipyard since the 60s. Only Navy shipyard left is Portsmouth Naval shipyard.
So It's not just a boat that can tow the party lines..
And the navy just started the process of decomissioning 4 litoral combat ships. It was a huge fail. Also the Zumwalt class, creating 3/32 EXTREMELY HIGH COST stealth ships which have power less then or equal to an Arleigh Burke class destroyer. The stealth isnt even a required spec as it will be in a fleet of other non stealthy ships anyways. Mistake after mistake lol!
Its also known as the missile sponge, meaning the only purpose it to take the enemy fire and that's it
