I saw this in Japanese before I started playing, so I spent most of FF14 thinking Y'shtola was going to turn evil and destroy Gridania.

I was relieved when I finally saw it again in English after playing through Stormblood. I have a soft-spot for smart acid-tongued women, so I'm really glad she didn't become a villain! :D

I can not stress enough how speechless this trailer made me when I saw it. I watched it ten times before streaming, picking it apart for clues. You are gonna hear this song in your head rent free forever now.
I was SO excited! And i really tried to not get my expectations up too high, but failed miserably at that lol. I couldnt wait for shb!
Yeah, the ShB trailer was so awesome when it came out; everyone was trying to figure out what it all meant. Once you guys finish Shadowbringers you need to rewatch the trailer because it's amazing how much your appreciation of it changes once you finish the story.
Absolutely! ShB just has layers and layers of subtext and meaning behind so many things it’s insane. Makes going back and watching reactions amazing since you can pick up on so many things
My guys. I saw the first 20 or so seconds of this trailer - up to "How long have I waited for this moment?" - as a CZcams ad a few years ago, and it is the sole thing that pushed me to try Final Fantasy. From just that snippet, from that small taste of Shadowbringers, I KNEW I'd be in for a phenomenal experience, and it lived up in every way.
When I reached the end of Stormblood and went and watched that trailer, my reaction was a lot like Garrett's. Just immediate clapping and feeling hype as shit. And to this day I still occasionally go back and watch it. It's an absolute work of art and I'm so stoked that you're finally here!!

The violin solo always *always* gives me the chills when it comes in. Makes me want to get back into playing the violin myself. Such a good trailer and can't wait for yall to get deeper into this expac!
Fun little tidbit, all the jobs the WoL used in the cinematic for Shadowbringers were all in order based on the other trailers. So, in order:
1.0: Archer
A Realm Reborn: Warrior
Heavensward: Dragoon
Stormblood: Monk, then Samurai
And finally, rounding it off was the new poster child job, Dark Knight
Fun tidbit: the sky is blue
If you notice as well, the 1.0 job (archer) is the only one that doesn't get a chance to get a hit in before being smacked, which I have to assume was intentional

it's been said many many times, but you really can't overhype shadowbringers :) enjoy the expansion, i know you will, knowing that you're already enjoying it :) when 5.0 ends, i hope you'll revisit this trailer and find yourself understanding it more as you have the context of everything that happened during this trailer. trust me it gets better and better
I started during ShB and I /still/ miss the Shadowbringers opening menu, ngl. There something about the gut-punch of RIIIIDING HOOOOOOOME that hits you before you even have any context as to what it insinuates! And I love it. Holy heck do I love it.

Although Endwalker is a brilliant conclusion, nothing ever quite touched Shadowbringers for me.
The best story ever told in a video game, hands down.
At this Point in time.. i think.. you can't really see ShB and EW seperatly - but as one big thing. Its far to intertwined to be seen as only one Expansion after another. You wouldnt have EW without ShB, and EW would not impact as heavy as it did without ShB... Both gave us beloved Characters and told a fantastic story..

For the entire length of Shadowbringers, I would play the cinematic trailer every time I logged in. And STILL I got goosebumps when I saw you guys watch it. That's how amazing it is ♥

Shadowbringers is *the* expansion.
It's hard to put into words how much Shadowbringers had changed XIV. How much it's brought to the store, community, etc.
There's a reason why it's everyone's favorite
For reference, I do miss RIDING HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOME as my home screen, but endwalker just hits different. Great vid as usual.
The teaser trailer (which didn't show us viera or the crystarium or the First at all, IIRC, just the bits focusing on the WoL) was amazing just by itself. When they expanded it to the full thing, it brought tears to my eyes between the emotions carried by the music and that the Crystarium was the pre-1.0 test footage brought to life -- the promise of XIV that 1.0 never could realize, finally delivered.
(Also, the bow is from the 1.0 demo cinematic. It's what he used before becoming a Warrior. That was another bit that really got to me, since it was never acknowledged 2.0-4.95)
It only stuck me much later- when our WoL standin fights Zenolidibus in the trailer here, we win, even though we actually lost in the game because Crystal bro picked the worst possible time to make another grab for us.
Though, this trailer actually came out before 4.5.
Well, we won first, then Zenolidibus wants to fight again and THEN the crystalman calls us on skype.
Yea we fought zenos twice, we won the first one and then we got yoinked by the crystal guy on the 2nd one. I think this trailer shows our first fight with him where we won. Correct me if im wrong

This is probably the only trailer reaction I've seen where they recognized the bosses from The Lost City of Amdapore (Hard). Not many people actually do that dungeon, and when they do, they don't remember it. lol.

I think you guys would get a lot from a rewatch of this trailer after you finish the expansion! Ever since ShB and continuing onto EW, the trailers have a lot more story content in them rather than only showing off locations/jobs. It’s interesting to see with hindsight what held up, what didn’t, and in some cases where the trailer just straight up lies to you about the story, and I think you two would get a kick out of that.
How does it lie? I think everything is clearly stated or shown over the course of the xpac.
@@gateauxq4604 Not so much the ShB, but the EW and HW trailers show things that are just not real. Whether it was done deliberately in the EW trailer I’m not sure, but I know for the HW trailer the artists who made the trailer had very limited information to make it. For example, the only dragon model they had good references for was Hraesvelgr, which is why in the trailer the WoL fights an army of palette-swapped Hraesvelgrs. The EW trailer lies a lot, but I don’t want to get into it in case of spoilers for people who happen to read this.

This trailer is like 5D chess, but you gotta finish 5.0 and 5.3 to truly get it; still gives me chills watching it
WoL is a Archer. For both the memes and the canon.
Wol has canonnically switched jobs multiple times over the course of the story. Archer for 1.0, War for ARR , drg for HW, monk and Sam for SB, and DRK for SHB

The 1.0 one has voice acting too! Including for the Derplander. Which I think is the only time we hear him say something other than "AHHHHH" in this trailer.

The _Shadowbringers_ OST version of Eternal Wind might be one of my favorite bits of music EVER, and it lasts a little bit over a minute. Soken is the master at leaving me wanting for more, jesus christ 😩
WOL switches jobs in the order which they showed them in trailers/expansions!!! Bard from FFXIV 1.0, Warrior from ARR (2.0), Dragoon from Heavensward, Monk and then Samurai from Stormblood, and ends with Dark Night for Shadowbringers!
The three stages of the Shadowbringers (and Endwalker) trailer
1) you have no prior knowledge and see out of context - "this looks cool, I assume these people are important, good music"
2) you've played up to to that point in the MSQ - "wow, this is amazing, I'm hyped, what are they doing there, why is this happening, what does this mean, warrior of darkness whaaaa--"
3) you've finished the MSQ for that expansion and understand even minute details and foreshadowing - "weeping incoherently"
Everytime I watch Shb trailer, It reminded me to repair my equipments before entering battle.
The hair on my skin was standing up watching this trailer the first time...even today, I don’t log in untill i watch this trailer
Seeing how the Kuribu is a sin eater, it very much ups the dangers of Amdapor as well as the War of the Magi. One mistake in the statues' creation and we would've had a sin eater infestation on the Source long before the events of ARR

Honestly, I highly recommend watching the KR reveal of the ShB trailer. I’ve never been to Fanfest but man the levels of hype and people crying at the trailer makes it like I’m there!

love the FFXIV trailers.., the only trailer that "disappointed" was EW's.. (felt more like fast fan service, .. but suppose Yoshi & Co. were too caught up in FF16 development at the time)

As wonderful as Endwalker is Shadowbringers just means more to me.
Too bad the ingame trailer had bad audio mixing. One would normally expect that version to have the highest quality.
