What's this? An actual interview with Dave Grohl where he does not get one single question about Kurt Cobain? Wonderful!
No JOKE. It’s a miracle.
I just had to google his relationship with Cobain. I knew him from Foo Fighters. 🤣🤣
It's understandable though, Cobain is a straight up almost mythical legend by now.
@@whatabouttheearth it’s gotten to the point where the media has “idolised” his death more than his career and influence as a person
BECAUSE HE MURDERED HIM !!! - NORM MCDONALD.
I love how every Dave Grohl interview feels like just a conversation between friends.
Dave is really down to earth and joyful, but this guys made a GREAT INTERVIEW JOB. Not interrupting, flowing with the answers, making cleaver jokes (and not too many), avoiding stupid and recurrent topics (Cobain's life and death for instance). Excellent in every aspect.
He and I were born in the same hospital. 😎
Hung out with him and FF as a teenager in their RV outside an MTV thing over 25 yrs ago- they were exactly the same off camera, and way back then. Just normal fucking dudes hanging out, offering some star struck kids the snacks in their van and asking what we were learning in school and shit.
@@DannyBloomfieldBK……. To freaking cool , I hung out with Greg Allman back in the late 80’s for a few hours at first I was star struck within an hour it was like I was just hanging out with someone that I went through high school with……. He was just great and so generous with his time……
I’m a hip hop head but I LOVE Nirvana and Dave Grohl. This dude is so humble, he’s a legend

Yep. Same. And I love the Foos as well...
I’m a fan of all types of music mainly grindcore but love hip hop &, Dave Grohl
@@bloodmoon4012 oh shit if you like grindcore have you heard Ed Gein’s cover of Nirvana’s “Breed?” So damn good.
Dave Grohl isn't a person, he is a singularity of good vibes, this dude is amazing.
Loved that they started out with the keanu reeves bit. Another great human who has not let fame or scandals impact who he is
Hard not to like a guy that's almost as hot sauce immune as Tommy Chong. HIs Hot Ones episode was great.
Him, and Keanu, have always had a special place in my heart. I find it very fitting that they referred to Dave, as Keanu, in the beginning of the video.
They are both really good guys with enormous hearts. They're very humble, easy going, kind, and giving men.
They both take the time to be there for others, and they try to help people. They do not do it for recognition, or publicity. They truly help out of the goodness of their hearts.
Earlier this year, Dave took his smoker to a homeless shelter, and spent over 24 hours cooking, and feeding, everyone. Back in 2018, when California was engulfed in wildfires (yet again) he barbecued for the firefighters. He gave a fan his pair of orthopedic shoes when he saw her on crutches. My favorite Dave moment was when he saw a blind boy at one of his shows. He bought the boy, and the boys dad, on stage and let the boy play on his guitar...I feel the list of good deeds is endless.
Keanu Reeves is also an amazing human. He gave his stunt team, from the Matrix, Harleys. He gave Rolex watches to the people he worked with on the set of John Wick. When he heard a crew member, on one of his films, was having money trouble, he gave him a $20,000 Christmas bonus. He regularly rides the subway and will give up his seat to others (elderly, pregnant women, disabled people, etc...). He sat with a homeless man before, and talked with him for hours, because the man just needed someone to talk to. He donated over 70% of hold matrix salary to cancer research. He's done so much more too.
Both men have also donated millions upon millions to various charities.
I saw Dave outside of a restaurant one time, chasing his daughter around a fountain, laughing with her, picking her up, and living completely in the moment. Yes, he's a rock god, but it was obvious that before that, he was a great dad. I would love to meet him sometime, but I never considered interrupting him while he was with his family.
Well, I hope Dave sees this, I am certain he would appreciate your thoughtfulness at not interrupting his private life. If he does I hope he'll send you a message to say thanks, he is a Good bloke.
You're a good person! A lot of people wouldn't give it a second thought.
That was nice of you :)
Thx for sharing this authentic moment of his true character. Kudos for honoring his fam privacy and vibe.
That's the best. I happened to grow up around a very famous baseball player and he came to my Grandpa's funeral and people asked for photos while he was sitting next to a grieving family. The world needs more people like you.
I can honestly say, I'm a Black guy and if I hear "Everlong" in any format, rock or ballad, I'm jammin' to it.

That's my fave Foo song
Good music is good music, the race part is irrelevant to that. That's why even when racism was more than common, you had all those white kids listening in to music by black people. If it's good, people will listen!
I think it speaks volumes that Dave has been in the music industry - and in the public eye - for over 30 years and has never had any huge scandals or controversy or bad allegations against him. That kind of impeccable track record can't just be luck and circumstance. I really believe he's a good guy.
I've heard it said that after shows, when bandmates would go out partying, he would go home to his family. Dude's a class act.
There was that one time when Foo Fighters were HIV/AIDS deniers, but they changed their minds later on anyways
Courtney love tried for many years to rip him on a lot of stuff. Never worked out in her favor though, thankfully
I'm a massive Foo Fighter fan aka Dave Grohl fan. So, when I can't sleep, I'll just pop down the CZcams rabbit hole. I know that I can't watch a concert because there's no way in hell that I'll even get a nap. But, I love to watch interviews, biographies, and historical shit. The one consistent thing that I've heard about Dave is that he's the nicest guy in rock and roll. Over and over and over again, I've even looked for bad things that Dave has ever done and you get NOTHING! The only thing that I hope and pray for, is that if he still smokes cigarettes, please stop. I don't want anything to happen to him or anyone in the band, especially if it's something that he can control. Just listen to Jon Bon Jovi, whether you're a fan or not, listen to him a few years ago and listen to him today. I know he had surgery on his throat, not sure why, nodules maybe, but smoking for years didn't help.
@welljer Yeah, I almost forgot about her. She's crazy and scary too! I wonder if Francis Bean Cobain can sing.
No bullshit, the Little Richard story HAS TO BE true! I met him in 1987 and sure enough, he was in the back of a limo - rolled down the back window half way and was like, "God bless you - so nice to meet you!"
@@tonydaletony RAH
I was standing on a street corner in Memphis. I'm waiting for a black SVU to go through the intersection so I can cross. The driver's window was rolled down and I was staring at Little Richard! I froze because the way he was driving so slow, I thought he was going to stop and say something. I was in shock, I didn't even wave. He was driving!
I had the same experience with Little Richard, he gave me his book and signed it.
Dave Grohl is the Forrest Gump of rock n roll. Everyone loves the guy. He’s done more shit and met more legends than you can imagine, but he’s still a down to earth guy that doesn’t know he’s big fuckin rock star. He’s just DAVE!
I love watching him play drums.. it stops there.
Oh he knows.. he's just authentic and appreciative.
@@tross6380 Why's that?
The Melvins, Mudhoney, Soundgarden and about every other musician from Seattle that knew Dave before Nevermind all tell the same story about Dave Grohl cutting all ties with them post-Foo Fighters, because Mr. Rock Star Grohl is too important to talk to the peons anymore. So, yeah, there's a pretty large contingent of musicians who don't have anything nice to say about Dave Grohl.
@Marvin Smith just because they played shows together back in the day doesn't necessarily mean they were ever actually friends. Maybe he didn't have any sort of obglition to them.
They not lying. I seriously rock with David Grohl. Foo Fighters, Nirvana, Queens of the Stone Age, Tenacious D, I don't care. Dude is beyond likeable.

Can we just pause and admire how easy it was for him to come out with a killer beat just by snapping, slapping his leg and tapping his foot at 10:34. I know people are going to be like, "well duh! He's a musician" but come on! That was so off the cuff and he wasn't even paying attention to what he was doing. Love it.

Letterman was right saying Desus and Mero are the future of talk shows. None of the current late night talk shows could have such an interview so casual to get such natural insights from their guests.
a great insight. agreed.
#preach when I saw that moment I felt like David Letterman was the Bishop and gave these two men the blessing. It was so surreal.
Kinda dope that Letterman closed last episode with the Foo Fighters playing "Everlong" and now Desus and Mero have Dave Grohl on after getting Letterman's cosign.
You should also check out the Graham Norton Show if you haven't already! He's a quick witted and funny Irishman that gets guests to say the best/craziest stories, and he actually lets them talk, unlike the mainstream American late night show hosts.

Oh, those were EPIC!!! They'd do that and then go play to an arena of fans!
Dave is the ultimate Everyman. One of those rare people who becomes wildly successful but never ever stops being as excited about what he does as when he dreamed about doing it. His greatness is something everyone can aspire to because rather than seeing his own greatness he seems to always approach everyone else with the attitude of "Oh my god I'm having such a great time. Want to come along?" His joyful passion about music and life in general is contagious. I hope he is able to keep rocking for decades to come. The world is a better place because Dave Grohl is in it.
Dave Grohl is great. But no matter your attitude we won't all get a break by being in a band like Nirvana. He's been lucky as well.

I met Little Richard once too in the Memphis airport. He was sitting and surrounded by bodyguards and I walked up to them and the body guards said he wasn't talking to anyone right now. He reached out from behind his guards to shake my hand and I shook his hand and he said "God bless you". He's the coolest. It's better than getting blessed by the pope.

The thing I love about Dave is that he really hasn’t forgotten what it’s like to be that kid (or adult) who is obsessed with music and just wants to play with their heroes. Even though he’s now one of those heroes, he hasn’t forgotten what it’s like to be a regular person. I think that’s one of the reasons why people love him so much.

Bang on. What you said about being 'human' is what stands out most to me. There are a lot of bands I like more tbh (though I love some Foo Fighter songs) but few musicians that seem better humans than Grohl.

My mom and I heard about Foo Fighters forming while listening to the radio in the car as usual. Since she already had her Nirvana repertoire on lock, she was delighted, and their songs got mixed in with the random songs I would catch her singing. Later, when I was teaching 6-8th grade at a Title 1 middle school, a trip to the guidance counselor's office would become a 20min black lady discussion on how much we loved Foo Fighters. 🍫
This is probably one of the most entertaining interview/ interviewers i've ever seen. Everything was genuine.
I wasn't aware of these two hosts, but after watching this and how friendly the atmosphere they have, how respectful and engaged they were with Dave - truly makes this interview so much more magical than the vanilla late night shows.

One of the reasons why I love Dave is that he loves all music, periodt! Full stop! He explains that his inspiration comes from The Gap Band, disco, funk AND rock! He is a renaissance man for sure!
I actually had a Coors Light with Dave back in Mountain View backstage at the Shoreline Pavilion. Super humble and friendly.
I thought it was great that Dave had two tables right in front of him and instead of putting his Water Bottle on one of the Tables he sat it on the floor next to him, It's a habit as a drummer that's hard to break, because it's just muscle memory. I still catch myself doing it from time to time, and I haven't played Drums in years. Kudos to a great interview with Dave Grohl, he has always got great stories to tell =)

He really has everything sorted out mentally- grounded, humble, talented, chrisma and super social and therefore is able to enjoy everything in life as a cool legend!
Did you see the video with him and the band when he brought the 8 year old girl on to play the drums? Probably the coolest story of the year. Bruh he sings every other line and then goes “WHOAYEAHHHHH” for the rest. I love Dave but his voice is shot.
Are you having a laugh. I love him to bits but he does not have a strong voice. He can't hold any notes live. Loads of the great melodies on the records just get hacked up live (or sung by the audience alone)
Omg I wish I could one day.
I always wondered why they keep playing in small venues when they can sell out a stadium. I caught a show in August at a small venue in Oklahoma. I see why. It's so much more intimate in a smaller crowd. Great show.

Because Nirvana and the Foo Fighters slap! His mentorship Nandi Bushnell is the cherry on top.
This is true. I rocked with Queens of the Stone Age, Foo Fighters, and Them Crooked Vultures because of Dave. Might not be of the GOAT drummers, but absolutely one of the GOAT rock stars of the last 30 years. Cool as shit.
Queen's of the stone age, I forgot, good looking Finns get some music!!! Dave is a dope drummer, his masterclass (?) On drumming was fire
Yes! I saw Them Crooked Vultures live. Dave was a beast on the drums. A pure hard rock drummer.
Yeah, he is all good vibes and no fear!
His work on QOTSA alone solidifies his status as the greatest drummer ever.
His work with Nirvana solidifies him as a GOAT drummer
I've been a huge Dave grohl fan for years and I just loved this interview! this dudes kill it! great show!
First time watching one of these interviews. Thank you very much for posting it was great.
They say never meet your heroes but Dave is definitely the exception to the rule!🙌
Man, I wish all my heroes were like Dave.
Filmed Dave at a festival thing & he hung out at the after party until 6am taking pictures with the crew & drinking the bar out of tequila, he is a prince
There goes my hero. Watch him as he goes.
Usually because your heros normally dont live up to your hopes if how they really are..dave on the other hand is better..kinder..humbler than one would think he would be...makes one want to be a better person.
I fucking looooove Dave Grohl. I came to the Foo Fighters late admittedly and then found out he was in Nirvana and I've been hooked ever since. Rope gets me through some tough days at work. Love ya Dave! From a black girl who fucks with you heavy!
Rope is amazing!
Love this interview
This is amazing! The Energy of Dave is just contagious 😂
We must protect Dave Grohl at all costs. He's one of the greatest dudes of our generation.

Preach. Theres actually a long list of musicians I like better to be honest, but as a human, hard to think of almost anyone! Like ever. lol
