I don't know the full inner workings of Mario maker, but that softlock felt like Mario maker scuff that the level designer couldn't even fathom occurring.
Plus panga was trying to manipulate the mechanisms too. He basically broke the level

The crazy laughter stuff is what got me to stop watching a lot of other creators. At a certain point it just felt forced.
That's why popular troll levels often have so many revisions; it takes a while to find and fix all the potential jank softlocks. I think that creator was trying their best.
Panga is the kind of guy that intentionally cheeses the on/off state then complains about a softlock.

One soft lock definitely isn’t worth a boo the rest of it is so well designed, at worst it’s a meh
Good level imho, certainly fun to watch and misterious. The Boo might've been premature, but then again, troll levels are not for everyone :)
In most cases I'd disagree, but this one really seemed like absolute mm2 jank that nobody could have predicted. I don't think anyone could replicate it intentionally, as a creator I'd just shrug and slap a spike into there if it isn't too annoying to do.
The magikoopa anti-softlock did deserve a boo, though. That was just a tedious amount of waiting.

soft lock = insta boo for me even if the level is good
I don't think the boo was so much for a softlock as it was for that magikoopa waiting section (8:04). He waited 1.5 minutes instead of using "give up" and then he got softlocked so it didn't matter that he waited. Creator did put thought in making antisoftlocks as simple as spikes and sometimes more involving (18:45) but this one was just waiting for death, and it's not a jank or anything just annoying design.
I think I also would meh it, but remember that what we perceive as 12.5 minutes in yt video was 25 minutes for panga because he edited half of it out. So the final emotion of having to start the level again after 25 minutes and 1.5 of it being waiting so you don't have to start from beginning is understandable.
That troll level must have taken so much time and care to make. The boo makes me wanna cry

The troll meta nowadays is that after a section and a cp the next section will be unique the first time and thus unexpected the second time. Sort of trolling you twice.
If you play it normally, aka getting the checkpoints its less annoying and 100 times more funny as you walk into it the second time believing you know how to avoid it.
This is often used for even non-red coin troll levels, where you really should not skip the cp and loose 2 minutes of progress.
For players like panga it would be beneficial to force get the cps to avoid confusion tho. If that was the case it wouldnt be an issue that the sections would be unbeatable in a row, as you would only see the unbeatable variant once ever.
It's not really a troll when it's unbeatable though. It's basically just a forced death that feels janky. If it was an actual alternate path with a winnable route, it would've felt much better.
@@Pzychotix I kind of get that sentiment, but you arent supposed to know that its unbeatable. Like a magicians trick, its for enjoyment and thinking way too much into it will break it and make it unfun.
@@unuseableb Troll levels are meant to be puzzles, not completely magical and out of the realm of human comprehension, and I think one of the best parts about troll levels that do this checkpoint difference thing well is that figuring out how to do it deathless to get WR is a whole new and different puzzle. There must be a way to do it here, maybe involving a certain specific order of operations, because they had to clear-check it. But the point is it's vastly less discoverable via trial and error than the normal room solutions, which optimally isn't the case. Building multiple levels of depth into your level for players who want to dig deeper is one of the things that can set apart a great troll creator.

@@carstenschipmann6878 I'm sure it is, I wouldn't know. But the point stands, that it's better when there's a legit alternate way to finish the room that someone could discover by starting over the level and continuing past the checkpoint.
I think that this was a really good troll level. There was just the obvious softlock that needs to be fixed in a new version, and you could argue (rightly so) that the Magikoopa anti-softlock was pretty poorly designed as well. Other than that, it was really good.

I think the purpose of the on-off state differences for the rooms was probably to have a checkpoint twice-twice troll. It's a pretty common troll to make the next room different when you enter after a respawn vs when you continue after getting the checkpoint, though I don't think I've ever seen it in a red coin level, and this level sort of shows why it isn't usually a thing.
His "don't think" mentality lasted for like a whole minute before the troll level subdued him into the "wait patiently and think" mentality. And it didn’t work out positively for him, IMO.

"Troll" and "Great" together in a sentence is like a cereal bowl with milk but instead of the cereal its chicken nuggets.
I think Mario Maker is one of the only places where it's possible for "troll" to have positive connotations. It all depends on the context.

The trick for the deathless run has to be some hidden mechanism for swapping the on/off state in one of the 2 checkpoint rooms.

Can easily be done with impossible to find secrets you can only find with a tool that allows you to see the full level and the hidden stuff. Like a hidden block with a key on a rail that requires a waiting a long time in a random place.

Troll levels like this have extremely convoluted dev routes that is basically impossible to find
@@DespOIcito I know for MM1 there were a few methods to pretty much force a death (because the odds are so impossibly small it isn't even gonna happen even with millions if people trying the level for years), but I haven't seen it for Mario Maker 2 yet.

level seems technically decent but the trolls themselves seems meh. Like the creator just copied a bunch of mechanisms from somewhere and tried to mash them into the level. lots of p-switch waiting.
