    Yeseo was the biggest surprise for me, she got more lines than I expected and she ate them all UP and her stage presence was out of control. The song was largely dominated by Dayeon, Chae, and Yeseo line-wise and Xiaoting presence-wise (SO happy they are treating her as she deserves as a secondary center). Wasn't shocked Bahiyyih got the least lines, I assumed she'd be a sub-vocal, but was really surprised that for the most globally popular member, they gave her barely any solo shot focus, its almost like MNet wants to continue pretending like she is there when she has such a huge following, which is bizarre to me (she DID get a more fair amount of lines/time to shine in the b-side MVSK tho). Youngeun getting as little as she did was also surprising, but I do feel like even though their voices are very different, she and Dayeon (and to a lesser extent, Hikaru) share a very similar "vibe" and appeal, so when Dayeon was given a lot of rap lines, Youngeun kinda got pushed to a supporting role instead. Felt like they could've evened it out a bit to give her more but she did get the most lines in MVSK so it isn't like she is being ignored, just under-utilized in this song. Mashiro and Yujin were truly shining in the teasers so was surprised they didn't get as much as I anticipated but hopefully they'll be able to be given more lines in future title tracks. I understand why Chae gets the most singing lines but Mashiro is a very strong vocalist as well and can sub in there too, I think. Overall a very solid debut, the concept suits them perfectly, and I think shows a positive future for them as a group.

    Yeseo has a very distinct vocal tone. When you hear her voice, you’ll say “yes, that’s kep1er.”
    Youngeun really auditioned as a rapper-dancer and debuted as one of Kep1er’s main vocalists.

    You're right. The members that didn't get many lines should have at least had something memorable, or maybe in the beginning of the video. Not like Bahi who wasn't in the first half at all and then just repeated two lines from the first part of the song.
    Also yes the sets are really clustered and kind of ugly. But they do make a little more sense when you realise they still haven't left Earth. I guess that's why they're in someone's room and outside, even though it has space elements. Which I think will continue as a story in their first comeback when they leave for Kep1er?

On the other hand, I am totally disappointed with the number of lines and centre time in MV Bahi and Hikaru got. I feel like instead of putting there this weirdly unfitting 'Oohh' part in the chorus they could just give more lines for one of them or even Mashiro. After all, Bahi was a second-place so she should at least got more centre time in MV if they didn't want to give her a lot of lines... She even was co-leader for a 3/4 of the missions she was a part of. Not to mention she was already classmates with Youngeun and Yeseo before GP999. From their point of view, Bahiyyih was another hard working contestant who happened to be popular and related to a famous idol, and their friend.

I wasn't expecting much of IVE's debut when it came out but I was genuinely blown away by how good it was cuz it was so different from all gg releases practically since 4th gen started. I think that's why this debut feels a little underwhelming for some people becuz ggs are dominating the kpop scene as of late with so many phenomenal groups and banger hits. the expectations for song quality have been higher than ever, it's hard to impress if there is any part of the execution and the production that's a little lacking.

The MV seems rough around the edges sometimes, some thing could be easily fixed if they recorded something second take or just didnt use a failed one. Since their group is named Kep1er, a reference to Johannes Kepler, a well-known astronomer, and since their survival show is literally called Girls Planet... What I think they're trying to achieve with the sets for this MV is a reference to the earlier stages of what a scientist goes through in life to achieve space travel.
    I think they're trying to do a retro bedroom/house and the industrial look by saying these girls are in their younger stage where they are geeks of science and astronomy which makes sense cause it's their debut. Definitely the reaction I’ve been waiting for because i know PD is truly gonna look at things objectively! “That was great but not perfect” is exactly my thought due to the same reason “line distribution”. As you said you have 9 members, and even with less members, line distribution won’t ever be equal but for me it could’ve been fairer and the song would’ve been perfect for me! Or if they even gave the girls with less lines better screen time and focus the problem could’ve been solved but unfortunately they didn’t💔 and the oh oh part was a bit overwhelming at the first listen for me but with a few more listens I liked it more! And although i like it now, i still would’ve changed to something else with actual lines to give the vocal line more time to shine! thank good MVSK exists! It really made up for the bit of disappointment i got from the title and that’s why I like it more than the title! But it’s also not perfect because shiro didn’t get many lines there but i still think it’s better than the title because everyone truly shined in the song especially my girl Bahiyyih, who deserves much better in WA DA DA! and the song itself is executed much better than WA DA DA in my opinion and is really unique!(it could’ve been a better title song option for me) Despite everything I hope that wakeone will do better in the comeback because they literally have 9 ACES who deserve to Shine equally!!

    I'll be in the minority. Thought the song was a lot of fun and mixed the girl crush/cute vibes well. To me its a pretty strong debut. The line distribution is decent and I think the reason people think it's bad has more to do with screentime. The girls have been through a lot even before debut (online hate, COVID, debut delayed). Of course nothing is perfect and I agree the O part of the choreo doesn't seem to fit but it's not surprising they'd try to incorporate hints of GP999 in the song/choreo. My bias is Mashiro and while I'd have loved to see and hear her more I knew she wasn't gonna be the star. Think some fans need to remember that who ranked #1, visuals and main dancers matter in kpop. Have the mini album on repeat. MVSK is an awesome Bside and hope they perform it on music shows alongside Wa Da Da.
    Also people saying IZ*ONE had an established sound from debut probably don't remember that La Vie En Rose was originally suppose to go to CLC. It wasn't specifically written for IZ*ONE, it's just the sound/style they ended up keeping. Comparing the 2 survival groups seems a bit unfair. I hope Kep1er maintain the balance between cute and girl crush cuz here's the thing I fans prefer GC and K fans seem to prefer cute concepts. Also Yujin is 25 while Yeseo is 16. Only way to make everyone happy is to balance both.

    I have mixed opinions on their debut. I think it's a good debut, their staff didn't want to be too experimental or something and they wanted to play it safe. I wish they got more budget, i'm talking about both the song and the music video. The MV is not cheap of course, but in comparison to La Vie En Rose we can say that they put less budget. I agree with PD about the shots and the scenarios, they could've done much better. I didn't like the "industrial" type of scenes. About the song, I think it's not a bad song and I can see why many people like it, but it's not my cup of tea because I'm not too much of a fan of beat drops and noise music in general. The "oh oh oh" part doesn't sit right with me, it sounds and looks different from the rest of the song and the choreo, and I especially didn't like the choreo because they were not on beat and the movement with the hand looked weird (?). I LOVED Xiaoting's and Dayeon's part, they slayed this debut, even if Xiaoting didn't get so many lines. I would have prefered more lines by Youngeun, and I hope she will get to shine more in their first comeback. I'm a huge fan of Kep1er because I'm a cheshire so I followed Yujin in Girls Planet 999, falling in love with all the other girls too, but I didn't like this debut and I don't think it is as memorable as LVER, Dream Girls or Energetic. I don't think they intentionally give her less line it's just harder to find a line that suit her. I honestly think Kep1er should have gone with two title tracks with both Wa Da Da and MVSK. Wa Da Da gives me badass cutie vibes while MVSK gives me mysterious elegance vibes and damn Kep1er slays both concepts. Wa Da Da is the dance track I'll be bopping to, while MVSK is the song I'll be listening to and hoping for a stripped back acoustic version to (probably won't happen but the potential for this song is just amazing).
    This is my first time watching the review from this channel and that was really a satisfying watch. Your analysis for the MV is great. I agree in that based on the MV alone there's a lot to be desired which makes one really look forward to what Kep1er would become down the line. While the MV was well shot, I feel like it was rushed in a way. I watched the performance in the debut stage first before I saw the MV and I also agree with what you said about them not being in sync in the MV. I do think they improved on that in their debut stage performance. I honestly love the stage performance more than what they showed in the MV but for those who will see Kep1er for the first time through the MV, the Wa Da Da MV does its job catching the eye.

    Right. I think the song is very good but this post-chorus is very odd and weird at first. I also think the choreo is stange in that part.
    The bside MVSK (Youngeun centered song) and their "intro" are very catchy.
    I'm looking forward for their future and very much agree with your opinion.

    i really appreciate how constructive and respectful your criticism is! I agree with almost everything you said, although the OOO choreo is growing on me fast lmao, I catch myself doing it in my room all the time whenever i’m bored and the song gets stuck in my head. As for the music video, I was honestly kind of disappointed, because from the amazing and creative teasers they were releasing I was really expecting more of a story line related to their planet concept, but I absolutely loved the song on first listen! i can’t wait to see what direction they take in their career, i have a feeling they’re going to be huge!

I also love this debut & im so proud of the girls; I pretty much agree with everything you said here, the choreo for the “oh oh oh” part was really weird & I wish that had been different, and I also agree with your opinions on the art direction of the video. I’m also hoping maybe next comeback we get more Bahiyyih, Mashiro, and Youngeun showing off their charms. But overall, for a debut I think this is very solid.

    I didn't really notice Chaehyun much during the show, but her pink hair and vocals are 100%. Also after seeing Xiaoting do her Xiao-thing i genuinely cant imagine the group without her. Despite Youngeun and Hikaru not getting a lot of lines, they both ate what was given to them. I'm so happy to see my girl Yujin thriving outside of the 3d Square's dungeon. This slaps.

    I didn't watch the show or see the teaser so I went into it with zero expectations when it showed up in my recommends.... the bit with the first girl with black hair that starts it off made me excited to see more, but then it swung from girl crush to cutesy and back again, which quickly made it feel a bit disjointed for me... like they couldn't decide if they were Itzy or Twice almost, so they just went with both... the video quality also seemed a little rough around the edges. Overall it left me underwhelmed, but like I said, I wasn't invested so I'm sure it played a lot differently for people who followed the show. I'm sure they'll work out all the kinks by their first comeback though and I look forward to seeing how they grow!

    My bias is hiyyih, and although I am disappointed with her lack of lines and screentime, I was definitely more disappointed with the O.O.O. part; it just felt too jarring, and it disrupts the badass flow/theme going on with the song. Idk, it sticks out like a sore thumb.

  • @faceyl
    @faceyl Před 2 lety +12

    As a producer if you decide to go for "girl crush" vibe then *stick* to it, this was a mix of a song but not a great one. I dont think it was bad but it could've been way better. I guess Iz*one left me thinking mnet was going to level up but who knows maybe in the future.

    • @faceyl
      @faceyl Před 2 lety +1

      Also I'm using "girl crush" very lightly since I think concepts are on a spectrum and don't have to be a copy of past songs. I think they're definitely mixing some teen crush here and there too but I just wished they would go full out 100% with whatever the concept is instead of different vibez. *Either way they're gonna successful so pleasing my taste won't make a difference in their career lol*

Especially bahiyyih. It could've been her shining moment, disproving all the hate she got. And she is the most famous member. The company should've known that. A lot of fans were disappointed and stopped streaming after the mv release. The group can achieve so much if all the fans are fed

      @@nahqiv She's gotten literally NOTHING but hate even when she was doing stable and hella consistent on GP999, and now that they're debuting their response is to... make sure she can't prove anyone right, stuff her in the back, and not let her do anything. Of course she probably is fucking frazzled. When they did the AMA thing on Twitter, literally a bunch of the people who got replies to her pretending to be nice were bahiyyih antis who were literally making fun of her, which she didn't realize at the time. She has only 30 second to 1 minute in the entire album. The whole album she only sings for up to 1 minute and the think she has decent line. Come on.
