I appreciate how you take the time to show us and explain how the machinery works. Anybody can put up a video of working with a drill, but you always take the time to show us and explain how the tools work, and that’s what sets you apart. Thanks for the great videos 🇺🇸

FYI we aren't just driving here....we're working machines on rough terrain accomplishing a very precise and dangerous task. If ya can't hold down or reach the brakes or clutch on any machine...well you can't operate it safely. Appreciate how each of your videos goes fairly in depth over each topic. From process explanations to actual machinery descriptions, it's like 2 videos in one.
With hard work when it's dry and dusty, you can sit around and watch the grass grow on rainy days !! That ole chunk of land is looking awesome Josh, keep up the good work
Josh, man you absolutely know what your doing with the various grass seeds for coverage, the ph factor. I won't say another say another word about the triple 17 fertilizer. Mrs. Stoney Ridge adds sunshine to the video, good for you!
My man, you got it done, received a nasty relpy from one follower for not watching the entire video, so sorry about that, wife said I had to break it off and go to church. Best you guys.
Your right about the topsoil here in southern Minnesota. Nice deep black as coal but you still have to take care of it! If it ever quits raining it's time to cut hay.
Good job there Josh! Kinda surprised you did not harrow and pack it, but I guess with putting 4 different mixes you really don't need too....and time of course. Hopefully it got a nice rain!
Hey Josh thank you for the video I enjoyed it and you sure got a lot of work but like the old saying goes long way to go short time to get there I think you know where that comes from but it is so true
Thanks for sharing the info about the Woods drill! Just a quick suggestion- if you broadcast seed, run a pasture drag or roller over the area after you seed. It will help incorporate the seed into the soil, and you will have a much higher germination rate. That is how we plant lawns in our landscaping business, and it has worked great for 15+ years.
That’s very nice equipment. I recently did around 6 acres with a hand crank bag spreader. That was a job. My land was similar to yours it’s a lot of work but extremely satisfying when you’re done.
I’ve been trying to get control of the pastures on the farm I work on. They could definitely use some fresh seed spread. It’s amazing the results of just mowing and mowing and mowing though... just with a brush hog... could really use a finish mower to clean it up. Work with what you got I guess.
A couple of notes, if you please. Please keep your right hand off the fender when driving the tractor. My friend lost a few fingers when something was throw up by the tire - we all bolted a handle on in that location after that. Enjoy your evening “adult beverage”. I enjoyed my evening Pepsi and now have a sugar problem. Should have stayed with beer.
Aren't you afraid that the rain will wash the seed away? That happened to me. I put down common Bermuda grass and it washed down the slope to the bottom. Made a good stand of grass in the goat pen but they don't eat grass.
Hey josh a tip an old timer taught me was when working in dusty/dirty jobs chew some gum. The dirt/dust will stick to the gum so you dont cough up dirt out of your lungs for days
I forgot to reply on your last video about ABI, I own an ABI 25 Classic Manure Spreader and it is built like a tank. I wish now I had at least an 85 Bushel size with PTO
yeppers Pete...I used to save every bag...right up until I had about 100 bags sitting in the garage...after about a year they dry rotted and turned to a huge mess. So we now put them in the recycle...we might save 1 or 2 but most go to the recycle
Another great video Josh! I have been looking forward to that seeder, doing its job but mother nature had a different plan! Lol Hopefully a nice slow rain for ya!
Man...I tell ya what...the farther I stay away from the gov't offices at my county the better off I'll be...I've found the USDA office to be the same....complete waste of my time....I get handed pamphlets instead of good info...I'vemade appointments with the soil and water conservation folks and they simply don't show up....AWESOME!! lol
I love the massey ferguson its what my dad used from the early ones like the 135 upto the modern ones, they are stil used over in ireland on the homesteads and farms, just wished more people would use them instead of the high tech ones
Your soil pH is 4 ? Yikes ! Yes, that could stand some improving. You're on the right track with the Solucal. Sudden weather changes ? Welcome to Minnesota. If you don't like the weather, wait a few minutes.
I sometimes get a kick out of ya Josh. Thanks for the seed. While pointing at his head. Lol I think ya might've meant thanks for the hat. All in good fun Josh.
I would have thought you teach mrs Stoney ridge how to drive the Massey an broadcast the Millet while you were using the John deer An drill then things go way faster An coulda been all done !!
Lol ... "Sorry about the truck" ... Yup ... Keeping it real ... Always next week to drill ... Now you need an equipment shed every 20 acres or so for staging and rain squalls ...
I think that when Mrs. Stoney Ridge gets home from work every day she should have a cold glass of wine and a two-hour foot massage waiting for her now that she is the official breadwinner!!!!!! And no complaining allowed!!!
Josh, when you load seed from your trailer, like you did today, why not have an empty barrel in your trailer to put the empty seed bags into. It'll save a little work, I think.
Thanks much for the info comparing drilling vrs broadcast. I am planning to plant a small 5 acres pasture and was wondering about the seeding difference
I look forward to seeing your results with the PSS72. I picked up a gently used one at a steal last fall when the opportunity presented itself, but haven't had a chance to use it yet.
I’ve got a kubota unit josh, and always picking up sticks. Got a cultipacker mud bracket. Works well....plus my wife wasn’t going to pickup sticks all day.
We have bees...and I'm with ya on native pollinators. So over the past few years I've saved back wildflower seeds and planted wildflower seeds all over the edges of our pastures...but not in the pastures....clover provides a ton of honey here on the farm and is great forage...some wildflowers can be harmful to our animals so we typically plant them outside the fence on the edges of our pastures. We're thinking on the same lines buddy...holistic farming practice for sure. I looked into wildflower seeds......EXPENSIVE!!! Crazy Expensive!
I don't know why but it seemed the day we picked to do hay or plant it either rained or threatened to just the luck of the farmer. As for safety I am all with you it is not practiced enough around the farm.
Saw the catfish video. Did you have to test the ph of the pond before putting the fish in? My pond has a lot of frogs, no signs of turtles or fish. Would like to put fish in but don't want to kill them, not sure what to do. Any help would be great. Thanks.

Where do you get solu-cal from, and the kind you use. I live in southwest virginia near the tip so our and your soil should be nearly identical.
Start calling commercial landscape supply stores in your area buddy
Thanks, Stoney Ridge Farmer! Excited to see the results!
seeding season is coming soon!! can't wait to put the Super seeder to work again!
Great video Josh and Mrs Stoney Ridge
Hi..... Thank you 🎥👍👍👍
So glad you are working to restore the native grasses. Thanks for sharing the videos, looking forward to seeing the results.
I built that seeder! I work at woods in Oregon and I assemble these great seeders built tough
And it’s kind of looking like Mrs. Stoney Ridge was saying “let’s get this done so we can start on my house” haha

Have you ever been a Teacher by trade? You are great at explaining things while keeping it short and to the point.
no sir but I enjoy learning and teaching what I learned even if it's a mistake 👍
I sure hope u stay successful. Keep up the good work. Ps ur ole lady looks happy and perfect for ya
Hope you're having a blessed day
Glad you got it down once it starts raining the birds won’t get much. With that great new seeder you can always overseed once it gets established.
Love that Massey 240 tractor
Good job there Josh! Kinda surprised you did not harrow and pack it, but I guess with putting 4 different mixes you really don't need too....and time of course. Hopefully it got a nice rain!
the rain will settle the soil around the seeds and we'll drill it again in the fall
Excellent explanation I've never seen lawn equipment on that scale. Cant wait to see the results!! Thank you again for the wonderful video!!!
Thanks so much for the great positive comment! It means alot to us!
Enjoyed this video Josh. Man it sure was dusty. Nice overview of the new seed drill. Can't wait to see it in action.
Coming soon!

A busy dirty day..
Have a good day 🌻🌻🌻
You will have great looking grass when done. You are doing a great job working the ground.
Good job and very informative I am anxious to see the final results
You and me both!
I know that you are needing a nice soaking rain my brother and I just finished 1st cut hay and we are needing rain grass and the ground is dry
Logan said “ I love that video dad”. We both really enjoyed this video! 😀🚜. We are all about life at 3 miles per hour! Wooooo
awesome!

Yes sir. I use an old 12' x 4' fence gate with 8 cinder blocks attached with baling wire for my drag. Works great!
Always enjoy watching, no matter the comments. You rock Mr and Mrs SRF.
Mrs. Stoney Ridge needs more speaking parts in these productions!! :-) Thanks for sharing this seeding process Josh!!!
yep......however she's not a big fan of being on camera buddy
That’s very nice equipment. I recently did around 6 acres with a hand crank bag spreader. That was a job. My land was similar to yours it’s a lot of work but extremely satisfying when you’re done.
Yessir...I hear ya...when we first moved here all of our yard area was seeded with a hand crank bag spreader! Tough work!
Beautiful view and both of you are doing a amazing job
You totally amazing man you have a weath of knolage your super cool hope to see you in the future 👍🏴🇬🇧🆒🇺🇸👌🏼
Thats a nice drill...huge Woods fan!

Mullet and soybeans. Wow, excellent for deer and turkeys.
crows are loving it too! Grrr

I had problems with that when I was planting food plots. They are really smart and hard to sneak up in or shoot
Great information. PS. Love your red tractor. I love my Ford '53 Jubilee (33 hp) for task like that. Just something about a classic.
Thanks 👍
Looks you are getting a food plot ready for fall.
gonna be some good dove hunting!

Intensive mowing or intensive grazing ! It works!! Grass loves to be cut and stimulated!
Alot of work but ending results will be beautiful.
I enjoy your channel. Thanks for sharing. 🙏

lol...isn't Pepsi an adult beverage 😀
I am looking forward to the results. My grass needs some help.
Smart purchase
Good stuff whooo !!! Stay Safe & God Bless

Aren't you afraid that the rain will wash the seed away? That happened to me. I put down common Bermuda grass and it washed down the slope to the bottom. Made a good stand of grass in the goat pen but they don't eat grass.
gentle rain is forecasted...we need to get some cover on the land quickly ..even if we loose 5% of our seed to rain
@@StoneyRidgeFarmer We lost 90% of our seed. Sure, losing 5% is not bad, but that's not what happened to us.
That's going to look great here in a few days.

You need ALOT more lime if your PH is 4. You can get a co op to come spread it for cheap! Like 2 tons to the acre is what we do
awesome
Happy Father's Day. Have a good one
Love singing misery Stoney Ridge in the videos helping. Looks like a giant and a little elf.

will that seed drill plant wild flower seed? that would be ideal to mix with native grass to have nectar and pollen for an apiary thanks for the ride

All I can think about now is Dove Season!!
lol...turkeys and crows too!
Good job! buddy!...;-)
What's your germination time? Will your new seed wash away? It's the rainy season for another month-ish.

U need to start sell beef of ur farm ounce u get up an going an everything is done around the property
Put that dang razor blade away after you use it brotha! You won't be able to count to 10 on those hands if you keep that up. 😂
Any fish in those Ponds

When you use a broadcast spreader, do you usually follow up with light discing (or something) that will bury it a little?
not in this case since we just stired the land up for a seed bed...first rain will burry the seed...it's nice and green now! Looks great!
@@StoneyRidgeFarmer Makes sense. I was worried that the rain might wash the seed away. I guess light rain wouldn't. Man, you farmers have it rough!
