50 ways to leave a backstroke. Well perhaps not 50, but here we have a few basic variations in a nutshell.
Sloppy execution can weaken the look-and-feel tremendously, so the `stroke` of the swing leg is always initiated from the hips(adductor muscles) with an almost straight leg, at all times!

@@VMJM85 lift your ass and start skating again. I'm 51 and started to skate again last year. Didn't bother when i was your age because i thought i was too old. now i resumed it because i told myself i want to skate again before i die. It's great exercise and it keeps my glucose levels down. it's good to be back!
You won’t, lol. Our bodies are more resilient than we know. Take it slow at first and get some protective gear til you feel comfortable.

What a way to show where the same move can be taken. I have seen it both done stationary and moving forward/backeards and did not realize it came from the same move haha. I love skating!

This is a great video! I really want to learn rhythm skating, but there are no official lessons where I live (Dallas, TX), but I did find someone who teaches artistic skating. Does artistic skating transfer to rhythm skating easily? My only tutorials for rhythm skating are videos - yours are awesome! I just feel like I need some lessons rework my old derby habits.

@@Kodak718 they look like old SureGrip Velvet wheels. I don’t know if they make them in Orange now. A lot of folks have them in white at my rink.

+Allena Felder on this video Linda is sporting Arius Powerdyne plates and Brian struggles with a vintage English type plates (not manufactured anymore). Our advice: go for the new sophisticated light stuff!

@J C a roller skate is a roller skate. One can use a heeled boot skate, derby skate, or a shoe skate. A metal or plastic plate. A toe stop or no toe stop. Artistic, aggressive, rhythm, etc. This genre of roller skating doesnt depend on hardware. Its just skating. Most of the time, the info on the net about this type of skating get the wrong info from someone who nothing about it from outside of the community it Originates from.
Even people with no rhythm and who cant naturally dance like us and who are also awkward can do it. Therefore any race or ethnicity or age can do it with practice.
@@BFunkphenomenon I think most people don't understand not all skates are the same. You can't just pick up any skate and do this, well you could but you would be working too hard or something would be more difficult with one skate ad it would be simpler wth another.. Boot, plate, wheel, bearings and trucks all play a part in being able to do this smoothly with ease or struggling along the way. A light weight boot with light weight aluminum plate is a good place to start.
