Barrister loses patience with former Post Office executive: 'That's just word soup'

  • A former Post Office executive was condemned for using “word soup” jargon by a frustrated barrister during the Horizon IT inquiry on Friday 26 April.
On her second day of giving evidence, Angela van den Bogerd was asked about the cases of several individual subpostmasters and their branches.
Her response, when questioned on the specifics of settlement negotiations with Martin Griffiths, drew a frustrated outburst from Jason Beer KC, lead counsel to the inquiry.
“What does that mean? That’s just word soup,” he said, repeating part of Ms van den Bogerd’s answer back to her.

I have been watching some of these people being questioned. There appears to be a common denominator amongst them. Firstly, they were in the highest positions and very well paid including fat bonuses. However, their memories of events are very vague and sketchy and sometimes non-existent. Secondly, they are able to remember things that they think make them look good and give great detail on these. Surely it is time for a selection of these people to be in court to answer to what happened and their potential involvement in innocent people being convicted and jailed and the distress and loss of everything that they had.

Even the proceeds of crime act won't apply because she didn't get extra money for her heinous acts. He called her out. Edward Henry KC and Sam Stein KC were far more outspoken as they were not the barristers acting for the Inquiry but for Core Participants such as the sub post masters. Their hands were less constrained than JBKC.
Sam Stein’s questioning of her was brilliant. He took no prisoners and loved telling her the high court judge in the civil proceedings hadn’t believed a word she’d said. The way he delivered it had me tittering!

Toothless government won’t prosecute her or her colleagues or anyone else complicit in this scandal. Remember, innocent people went to prison. Why is that acceptable, but sending van den Bogerd and Vennells isn’t?

How on Earth this Woman got the Job in the first place beggars belief as She hasn't got a clue about the job or position in the first place! Either that or she is just being Disingenuous or Evasive as She isn't fit to run a Post Office let alone the Whole Operation!

Based on what has been said by all of the Post Office management so far interviewed in this enquiry it seems the business was run by a mixed team of lower level "incompetents" and higher level "individuals" interested only in greed and covering up their own failings at the cost of innocent hard working people.
If this country still has the moral decency it has long been famed for, those responsible for this utterly foul cover up must be sent to prison. Not just for their own wrongdoings and the harm done to their innocent employees and their families, but to serve as a very clear warning for anyone in a very senior business position who would take the same route to cover their own backsides.

I hope she goes to Jail for her doings and lies told over the years in denying that there was nothing wrong with Horizon. Her and Vennels “MUST” not get away with this. “NEVER”

She should face jail time along with all the others that knew the system had flaws, hid it and yet pushed forward with convicting post masters, some taking their lives. Set an example I say to show that higher management has a duty to speak up and see action to stop this type of thing happening again.

The sooner this hierarchy is jailed, the better. Alex Bellfield was jailed for using words. These people have wrecked postmasters' lives. The worst part is they won't even admit it.
