    We manage wetlands in Louisiana and plant rice and millet often
    It looks like you've disked some smartweed
    We've learned if you have an abundance of smartweed just mow some strips in it and flood=the best success for ducks
    👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿great video guys
    And yes a grain drill is a excellent investment

    This was a great video! Touched on the major points without getting off tract or trying to turn it into infomercial for a grain company. Thank you for your videos! Only thing I might have mentioned was applying herbicide weeks before hand to knock down native weeds that compete and can choke out millet growth. But other than that spot on! Good luck hunting everybody

    i live on a good sized lake in FL and want to bring in and hold ducks to my back yard " to teach my kids about ducks and duck hunting" . we hunt elsewhere in the area but is millet something I can rake into my bank at the waterline to provide a food source ? or would you recommend something else.. just looking to educate two young girls about the outdoors before i introduce them to bird hunting in a year or two .
    thanks for all you do !

    How do you flood field? Are there levees around it?

    • @MossbergCorp
      @MossbergCorp  Před 7 lety +1

      Josiah ... we asked Jason Cruise and his response was that they used an irrigation well on single phase power. They used Poly Pipe and ran the water to a drain line that led to the duck hole. No level needed as the hole itself was a natural depression and only needed to be boarded at the culverts.

    I really enjoyed this video over a year ago! So my son and I went ahead and made our own to help show the process. Credit to Mossberg and their info. Let us know what you guys think and please share any more ideas about millet in the comments. Thanks!

    Is there any problem in doing this in relation to baiting laws?

    • @clinte9897
      @clinte9897 Před 2 lety

      After you plant it, generally you can flood it and be ok. Not supposed to mow it, disc it or knock it down.

      @@clinte9897 Doesn't it have to be an "agricultural crop" to be safe to hunt over when flooded? If you don't plant the millet or harvest the millet as part of normal agricultural activity you may be in trouble, but I am in no way an expert just how i Interpret the federal laws on baiting.

    where yall planted the millet does it flood or did you just plant it on the bank?

    • @MossbergCorp
      @MossbergCorp  Před 7 lety

      James ... Jason Cruise mentioned that the millet does flood out from slack water in the duck hole.

      Unless your planning on teal hunting it, might want to consider planting earlier.

    I can tell you if you plant millet as thick as this guy does it's WAY too thick. Plant according to the directions. The thicker the plant, te less germination and stunted growth.

    I watched a video on CZcams of a guy unloading dozens of ducklings in a 🌽 field, I Googled (WHY?) and didn't get a clear answer, I am 😕 🤔 by this. If you can find it this is what the video comes up as: beautiful life in the farm/country side/farming @BlackfoxyGarden
