i actually liked that gimmick. He was a pretty tough dude. He lasted longer than anyone in The Undertaker's Hells Gate.

I rolled my eyes every time they debuted any of these ridiculous gimmicks, its on thing to look at it in retrospect but to those of us that lived it and had to wstch this crap they tried to make us like night after night was harsh. . Thats part of why wrestling popularity almost died in early to mid 90s
Sorry, Wrestlelamia, but Repo Man was a great gimmick, clearly inspired by the villains from the 1960s Batman show like the Riddler. You weren't supposed to take him seriously, he was a comedic heel. He had an awesome theme song, too. Back when wrestling was fun and able to laugh at itself.

Whenever I do a GM mode in 2K, I draft Doink and he’s my US/IC champ, so much meat on that heel doink bone, his gimmick works with everyone no matter who he’s with because he’s crazy. People get too stuck on the he’s a clown and not holy shit this dude is insane.
He was initally supposed to be a darker version of Krusty the Clown from The Simpsons

New Generation Era was the era of occupation gimmicks. That's why there were so many of them. There were a lot of WCW gimmicks in this video I was not familiar with
Poor Brad Armstrong. One of the best hands in the ring, never heard anyone in the business or a single fan say a bad thing about him, but got saddled with multiple bad gimmicks. Candy Man, Arachnaman, and Badstreet.

Tommy Rich lost a loser leave town match to Ted DiBiase and came back with a character, Mr, R, They unmasked him one week as Brad Armstrong. I didn't remember the Bad Street one, till I was watching old WCW ppv's on Peacock. And yeah Arachnaman was fine, at least I think he won a few matches.

(correct if wrong) but either way that was a wild time lol

Watching this from beginning to end, will give you a good idea on Vince's psyche and how most successful gimmicks we've seen, were doomed to fail were it not for the wrestlers who pulled them off and the convenient stronger booking for them.

If I remember correctly, the Piggy James stuff was so hated by the rest of the company that Vince was forced to end it early. It ended in a squash title victory for James (which apparently wasn’t even the original plan, as the point of the storyline was to shame Mickie to lose weight. It was never about Laycool, it was just Vince trying to body-shame an employee on national television), and Vince was forced by Stephanie and Linda into privately apologizing after a sponsor complained.

So. The executioner was technically a character that existed waaay before the buried alive match. But they brought him back.
There have been Executioners in almost every wrestling promotion worldwide in both singles and tag team action . In the 1970's Killer Kowalski and Big John Studd wrestled under masks as The Executioners they were even WWWF Tag Team champions . After they added a third member the title was vacated . The third member was revealed as Nikolai Volkoff who won the titles with Iron Sheik after beating Barry Windham and Mike Rotunda (IRS) at Wrestlemania 1 .
Well believe it or not Florida Championship Wrestling during the 1980s actually had a wrestler called the Spider-Man. He wore almost the same outfit as the comic book guy.

Akeem was supposedly a veiled shot at Dusty Rhodes in WCW. Similar to how Ted Dibiase's servant was named Virgil, which was Dusty's real first name, "Akeem the African Dream" and "The American Dream" Dusty Rhodes. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to put 2+2 together.

21:00 The funny thing about General Hugh G Rection, was I was a big fan of the Misfits in Action stable in WCW. But when I originally saw the stable they had already shortened his name to just General Rection so I knew nothing about the full name.
The story goes that Van Hammer didn't like his MIA gimmick name being Private Stash, he wanted a higher rank so he was given Major Stash instead...the very definition of missing the real issue :)
