- Why your PS5 won't update system software & how to fix it!.. If your Playstation 5 stopped updating software or has error when system software is performing the update, this is what to do! Fist, I recommend updating your PS5 using a LAN cable ethernet connection. Doing this can help with problems downloading Playstation software updates. Next you can try forcing the PS5 to perform the system update in the settings menu. If that doesn't work, you can use the Safe Mode feature on Playstation 5 and update the software with Internet connection or USB. Doing this should fix the problem if your PS5 won't update.

Good that you made this video. I had a couple times a slight glitch. So when I checked it didn't update. I looked at the version number then went into safe mode and sure enough it allowed an update there. Seems still some people think the rest mode problem is around and it shouldn't be

Why? It’s literally the same information brought to the PS5. Controller not charging? Take controller cable and plug it in. Now your controller should charge.

You missed most probably the biggest issue if your PS5 isn't updating. The SSD is full. Check your storage, if full, delete some old media/videos/pictures that you might have captured during gameplay. I would say if you can clear 20GB of data, then you should be clear. I suppose 10GB would also do. Freeing up only 2GB of data might not be enough. I actually had a game patch complain that there wasn't enough space to install the update. I can see the same being for the OS. On the PS5, SSD space is a commodity.
Life saver. Not sure why the update wasn’t going through, but it worked perfectly fine when I did it through Safe Mode.

Another fantastic video! So far system updates have been pretty straightforward, when I awaken my console from rest mode the update is already downloaded and waiting for me to press install. Nice to know there's other options.

I think the title of the video is inaccurate. I don’t think it’s intentional. Your video doesn’t say why it’s not automatically updating, just how to go in and update it if it didn’t automatically update.
I haven’t had this issue yet, knock on wood lol. But, if it did happen I’d be curious as to why? Also, once you follow your tips on updating manually, will it start auto updating again on the next update, or will people with this problem keep having the problem?

Ive had the issue of a cpl games not updating after the updates were downloaded. But going into safemode and clearing the cache solved that...the next option would be to rebuild the database

Thank you kind sir, for me first step was a winner... But you know what it's like... First time ever PS5 just will not update via the notification, every single time "Something went wrong"... So panic stations! But Google to the rescue, with this neat vid that shows alternative ways to perform the update... And for some reason.. success! Update notification = nope; system -> update = yep! Happy days
Also when you plug in your Ethernet
You must go in and select Ethernet instead of WiFi.. it doesn't switch automatically!

Before proceed on this method is good to delete first the already downloaded update file and then to update the software from safe mode menu as in the video .

Another great video John. Having odd thing happening with my PS5 which works fine except when using a USB wireless headset. I get a black screen drop out for about 3 secs. Sound is fine just black screen. Connected to LG CX and changed hdmi lead and sockets. It's odd as only happens with headset and tried several different ones.
That's the tv not the PlayStation. Something with the codecs I believe

I've just had to delete CW PS5 version due to not enough storage. All I have is Warzone, MW and CW on my console. This latest update has consumed my console.
I deleted the PS5 version due to no back button adaptor for PS5 controller.
Concerning as my PS5 may become nil and void next COD update......
My system update stopped downloading part way through it, and realised I had a game running so I closed it, and it still didn't work, so I restarted the PS5 and then it worked.
This would be really useful information if we actually had a PS5

Yoo I wanna ask you something really important to me, I play on a competitive level and I did not like PS5's controller at all cuz it feels big to me since I play claw too, so I used Dualshock4 on my PS5 but there is a strong noticeable input lag compared to a wired connected ps5 controller, you can try it yourself if not already. So please can you suggest me any solution?!

Don’t forget to delete the PS4 version & save room. Just highlight over the R6S pic on your UI hit options, select PS5 version if you haven’t already figured that out.. GL
Lol I had the same issue, got my ps5 last week.. played rainbow 6 for 2-3 days on the playstation 4 version... Then realised I had to again download the ps5 version.. 😭

I would assume so as long as you’re completely turning off your ps5 before you flip the switch on your power strip you should be okay.
I do that whenever I am out of town. Works great.

I always use a hardwired connection on my PS5 and never had any issues regardless on how good your wifi connection is.
PS: Hardwired is always the best and fastest connection for gaming in general.

Not when the modem/router is in an entirely different room. This is the 2nd system I've bought for my daughter. First one had many issues. Now this one times out trying to install the update. This is beyond annoying.

Hey i bought an external hd on offer up and my ps5 asked me to plug it in and i did from the back of my ps its 2 tb and its 5Gbps and it still does not work
Usually if I just pause and resume the download it works fine.

ive done all of this and my problem of my ps5 not updating is my disc drive or the disc drive its self ive tried everything except the usb drive if that doesn't work i might need a new ribbon cable of a nee ps5 entirely

Any idea what to do when the USB method doesn't work either? No matter what I do, update online offline, safe mode, regular mode, or even full factory reset. I get error SU-101217-2. It also doesn't let me connect to wifi, only Ethernet. It's out of warranty so Sony won't fix it without paying a lot.

Umm John so when I put my system in safemode and I try to update via safe mode . It does not update it will tell me it’s updating but I will go back to check and it says the same update is available when I already updated it . What do I do. Been looking allover internet why this update never works.
