Cherokee Days 2014: Traditional Dances by the Eastern Band 1

  • In this first group of dances, the Tsa-La-Gi Eastern Band of Cherokee dancers perform traditional animal and social dances, including; the Bear Dance, the Buffalo dance, the Corn Dance, and the Friendship Dance. Jarrett Wildcatt introduces the dances and sings.
    Recorded at the National Museum of the American Indian Potomac Atrium on April 5, 2014.

    It was so nice to bring the Cherokee Bear dance to all cherokee [Wildcat]. I respect the Cherokee language even though I can't speak. This was my first visual so Wado!

    These are commonly done in the hills and communities of Eastern Oklahoma.

      Yes they are . We have no land or nothing . Not on their national registry. To them we dont exist. But we are here.i gotta go thru Choctaw to get any medicine or medical.. THE White one show

    I was able to hear amazing grace in Cherokee last year and immediately recognize and understand the words because they are Korean. It mentioned ancient kingdom of Korea call Joseon and also mentioned Chiu(one of the emperors) and osio means come in Korean. Also used as welcome. I believed Cherokees are proto Koreans who migrated to America after the last ice age 12 to 15 thousand years ago.

      I was always an acrylic fan myself, but hey, I'm only enrolled Eastern Cherokee. What would I know? ;)
