We first want to thank everyone who has watched, listened, commented, shared and provided feedback on the show. We are so grateful that people like it. Now let's get into Episode 4. First the guys take some time to discuss the growth of women's basketball, particularly in college with the rise of names like Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese. Then the guys talk about spacing, particularly one of the most unstoppable moves LeBron loves to utilize on the Los Angeles Lakers.... the Gortat screen (made famous by Marcin Gortat). Next, the guys talk about why the "screen assist" should a box score stat rather to help gather us appreciate players like Draymond Green and Rudy Gobert. Then the guys talk about the term "court mapping" and why Nikola Jokic is elite at this skill. Finally, JJ asks LeBron to break down one of the greatest defensive players ever... The Block on Andre Iguodala, which took place in the 2016 NBA Finals between the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Golden State Warriors . LeBron discusses the variables that went into the iconic play including the importance of J. R. Smith on that play. And as a bonus - JJ decides to show LeBron an old play of JJ on the Orlando Magic crossing over LeBron James while he was on the Cavs. This is a good one. Let's go.

Im glad they highlighted Gortat and Javale and players like them, because when you see that they got a 60 million dollar extention or they keep getting picked up by different teams and most ppl are like "Why did they give him 60-80 million? He doesnt even do anything!!" ..... Now you know what they do and how much it adds to winning basketball games. Truly underrated.

I hope ESPN is watching this lecture. When Luka scored 70, ESPN showed highlights of Luka's layups with no contest. It fits the narrative of no defense in today's league. Guess what? There was no contest at the rim because Luka got a Gortat screen on multiple possessions. That's good offense more than it is a bad defense.

@@WuAgent I will break it down for you. I never played in the NBA, I'm assuming you haven't either. The Gortat screen is something even you and I know about. NBA teams know what it is. It's on film. Why can't they stop it? Because the screener executes it perfectly. That's a skill. If the defense knows it's coming but can't stop it then it's good offense. I hope I cleared it up for you.

The first time which consisted of Luka being the ball handler, Gafford at the nail then flashing to the top of the key, Exum cutting from one corner to the opposite corner, DJJ trailing Exum then back cutting from the dunkers spot for a wide open oop! Second time, same concept but instead of sitting at the nail & flashing Gafford set a screen for Luka who then drove & dumped it off to Gafford for the dunk & finally the third time, Luka gets the screen set from Gafford, he then skip passes to Exum, Exum makes the extra pass & bam wide open 3 from PJ. Simply amazing podcast man you just don’t get the knowledge anywhere else in media rn.🔥🔥🔥

    • @schuylersavage276
      @schuylersavage276 Před 29 dny

I was just having a thought. Could
You imagine a time where the NBA started to really address and tinker with assist recording? Where they don’t just track assists and hockey assists, but potentially start giving out hockey assists to anyone who made a pass that can be argued it led to the scoring attempt? Hockey credits both passes, if there were two, and it should. Sometimes the best pass was the first one. What if bball credited EVERYONE with a single assist, if they made a pass that directly led to a bucket through multiple ball rotations.
I know this is sort of insane to bring up, but could you imagine the possible positive implications on encouraging team play? I watch every Celtics game and dozens of other games every week. Boston , when playing locked in, is as good as I’ve seen a team at making those extra passes for better shots, at swinging the ball to one another quickly, at sort of having the entire team knowing where the next pass should go before the current pass is made. You see it a lot with them and also the warriors when they are at their best, or were. You’ll see like 2 players pointing where the ball should go, and then before that recipient recieved the pass they are already pointing to the next guy, or the guy who knows he is going to end up with the ball 2 or 3 passes away is beginning to position himself to make his scoring move before the final passes are even made. If the NBA started giving anyone involved in these teamwork plays real assists, I think it would be something that could take bball to a whole new level. As much as it’s nice to imagine every one playing the game becoming entirely selfless and not caring about stats, that isnt realistic and honestly it doesn’t even make sense in a lot of ways and doesn’t help you get to the best levels. You need stats in SOME ways to validate your play, among other things. So I think if we started to give the , let’s say Pg, who made the pass to the short role, who made the pass to the wing, who dropped it off to the corner for a wide open cash from 3, an assist? Gave all of them an assist? Just imagine the type of team play it would encourage.

@@SHOWMEREALhe is still criticized for his playmaking? I live in the area and watch every single game, of his career probably, and I gotta say one of the areas where Tatum hasn’t appeared to be critiqued to me this year has been play making. It’s the area where everyone I know, who fairly takes issues with his lack of a traditional IT factor AT TIMES, gives him credit for taking leaps and bounds.
So to your point, Tatums play makong since Kyrie left and he took over that semi point Tatum role for a lot of possesipns has been amaizng, gradual, but steady amazing improvement and he is SO unselfish!!! Amazing hockey assist player!!!
I wonder, if you aren’t a local fan? Are the National bball fans still accusing him of not being a good enough play maker and I’m just not hearing it? I could believe that. They are stupid lolz. But ya you def nailed it, he is a great selfless play starter and passer.
Heck without going on and on too much, Tatum blows me away with the areas where he is almost too selfless; and then juxtaposed against the areas where he still has a little bit of insecurity and ego fragility, such as his relationship on court and even in interview when it relates to Jaylen Brown, or at the end of games. Tatum is going to end up as a top 20 player ever I think! And he’s right on pace, but I think that’s where he still has progress to make. But over time he’s worked these little things out slowly and I’m sure he’ll eventually be as complete mentally and emotionally as he is skill wise.
Do you ever notice, if you watch them daily, how Tatum still has a bit of an issue when it comes to the way his energy is when he associated with Jaylen? I think it’s just hard to ignore that he does still care a LOT about who’s better, and who thinks who’s better, and what awards and such he gets. I think if he follows Steph Curry lead it’ll work out. Just let go of caring who got finals MVP. When the media asks you, even if you believe everyone does care about winning MvP( I truly don’t think butler and Jokic and etc reallt care, just want to win) don’t SAY it. Tatum is so beautifully honesr, but TOO honesr. I hated his all star game period interviews. Sure you want to win MVP, but don’t talk about it the way you did. Lie. Say “heck I don’t care if Jaylen wins MVP! He deserves it! I just want US to WIN”!

JJ reddick should be a coach his explanation on x,s and 0,s are phenomenal and him and Lebron together is the epitome of basketball savants

2016 Finals Game 7, BLOCKED BY JAMES.
I will never forget this moment.
And this explanation by Lebron himself is more interesting than I ever imagined it.
I love this podcast so much. Thank you for the content.

The editing on this podcast is amazing. How many times do players talk about something they rarely show you the clip 🔥🔥🔥

Listening to Lebron talk about whats going through his mind on the chase down block was pretty awesome. Talking about plays and stuff is super informative and good but I think im most engaged when you’re trying to understand and pick at lebrons brain on certain plays or how he handled x situation

One of the wildest things about Lebron is that you can give him a year, the team he was playing, and a little background and he'll fill in the rest of the details of that game for you. He has to study his games constantly for that kind of recall.

Not even just details but he remembers exact sequences that he already knows what you’re talking about before you even say what you’re talking about lol dudes brain is just reviewing basketball tape every day. Insane the mind he has
