  • Three years ago, Bob Kuhn was diagnosed with Guillain-Barré Syndrome. It's a rare disorder where your immune system attacks your nerves controlling your muscles, results in muscle weakness, and in severe cases, paralysis.
He went to sleep one night, happy and healthy. He woke up a few hours later paralyzed. He went into total respiratory failure, was intubated and spent the next three months on a ventilator.
With a trach in and a feeding tube, he was admitted to Brooks Rehabilitation Hospital.

I had GB about 8 years ago. I was paralyzed from the waist down. Luckily, I was hospitalized before it hit my lungs.
I lived alone at the time. My family was in NY and I was in FL. My mom couldn't get in touch with me so called my landlord and my landlord found me unresponsive and paralyzed in my apartment.
I was hospitalized and then transferred back to NY to be near family. I spent 3 years in a skilled nursing facility where I underwent physical therapy.
Thank goodness I can walk again but I'll always have residual weakness.

I had severe foot drop from my GB as well. It's a terrible thing to go through but the more physical therapy you get, the better your chances of improvement are. Good luck. It's doable.
