    Hey What’s the model number on the harness you use to do this install?

    Nice....ill look into that pioneer unit....does it have Android auto too? Maybe next time u can film it while youre installing it so u dont have to tear it apart again just to show us 🤔🤣

    Thanks for your video. At minute 3:45 you explain how to remove the panel. I'm trying to do that to install new car radio but the lower part under the emergency light button doesn't come out, it's locked in some way. Do I only have to pull or are there some clip to unlock?

    • @SmartVan
      @SmartVan  Před 2 lety

      It's been awhile, I don't remember if it was necessary to remove. My process for installing the radio was to continuously try it out and see what's in the way. Cut out any plastic which you have to remove to make it fit, if it cannot be removed any other way. Just be careful not to damage the pipes that carry air

      @@SmartVan thank you. I solved it by slipping a blade under the tab to unlock it

    Thanks for sharing! If cost was not a factor, which would have been your preferred system and why?

    • @SmartVan
      @SmartVan  Před 6 lety +1

      I talked with a guy at car toys and he also said that they all use Pioneers in their own cars, so it's a pretty strong contender. If cost is really not a factor, Alpine makes one that I haven't tried, but it might be good: www.amazon.com/Alpine-ILX-107-Mech-less-Receiver-Wireless/dp/B06XXLL5FL

    I was in your same boat without a back up camera, I know you have a video about that install. But, I don't think I'm going to get enough use out of the back up camera. Is there a different head unit you saw without a disc drive and back up camera?

    • @SmartVan
      @SmartVan  Před 6 lety

      You can look around on amazon, but this was one of the cheapest. Backup camera is great insofar as it lets me keep my curtain dividing the front cabin and rear, which reduces road noise and makes AC more efficient to cool the front cabin only.

    Did the plastic frame for the new radio come with the package or did you buy it separate?

    • @SmartVan
      @SmartVan  Před 5 lety

      Comes with the Metra Dash kit

    Hi, I bought the metra wiring harness adapter but the ignition wire goes into a smaller harness so the receiver is always on. Where does that extra bundle of wires go? I couldn't make it out from roughly 3:00 in your video

    • @SmartVan
      @SmartVan  Před 5 lety

      Extra wires you just have to stuff deep into the dash, it's a bit tedious, but you can get it so that the extra wires are behind the metal piece in the center, and then plug it into the box when it's close, then shove the rest in.
      Not sure what you mean by ignition wire issues, check out my full walkthrough here: medium.com/@chris_41792/guide-how-to-install-an-aftermarket-radio-in-a-ram-promaster-city-754cccc29ad7

      @@SmartVan Thank you for your response! By ignition wire I mean the red wire that figures out when the car is on vs always being connected to 12v.
      I did figure out that I was missing the interface that the 2nd wire clip connects to. Also, upon speaking with Metra they informed me that the interface is no longer compatible with the promaster city. Did you have any issues with your dash controls after installation, or was everything plug and play?

    why you don't connect the original Mike the one comes with the car ? It is impossible to do that ?

    • @SmartVan
      @SmartVan  Před 5 lety

      Hey Link9a, I did not find a mic in my car, if it makes a difference my model doesn't have the upgraded dash package where the steering wheel has buttons to talk to the radio unit.

  • @heathkirby5868
    @heathkirby5868 Před 4 lety

    I installed mine and for some reason the ignition wire didn't work. I had to run one from the fuse box. Do you know what might have caused that?

    • @heathkirby5868
      @heathkirby5868 Před 4 lety

      I talked to Metra. DO NOT USE METRA XSVI-6523-NAV. Use the Metra XSVI-6524-BT. You can find it on Amazon or SonicElectronix.

    • @SmartVan
      @SmartVan  Před 4 lety +1

      @@heathkirby5868 I haven't had issues w/ the ignition wire, but the backup camera doesn't trigger correctly on reverse. Maybe the 6524-BT fixes that, it does seem to be compatible in the datasheet. If others have experiences with the 6524-BT definitely note them!

    Did you lose steering wheel controls without using the datalink module?

    • @SmartVan
      @SmartVan  Před 5 lety

      My van didn't come with steering wheel controls but I've read that people typically do lose that :(
