Pack a large plastic shopping bag (larger grey Target bags work) to put your under-the-seat bag into when you’re settled. Keeps the bag’s surface clean from the floor, in-flight spills, and from your shoes if you’re using it as a footrest. Make sure the zippers are accessible from the open front of the plastic bag. Throw the bag away at your destination. Pack another one for the flights home.

I have to disagree with Megan about the meal. I have a relative who was a long haul flight attendant and their experience is that it was a nightmare if large numbers of passengers ordered special meals. If 5% ordered special meals, it started to get onerous. 10% special meals totally disrupted service delivery for everyone.
Thats the reality folks. Trying to get hundreds of pre prepared meal to hundreds of people in a narrow metal tube in the sky is not easy.
If you don't have a religious or medical reason for a different meal, just have what's offered.

For those of us who a plus size, it is a good idea to request a seat belt extender when boarding. The flight attendants use them for the seat belt demonstration. It is much more comfortable for me to add a few inches to the seat belt, than to ride constricted.

I just got back from two 16 hr flights. The worst part was waiting for the toilet to be free. I was economy Korean airlines. The 747-b. I was extremely comfortable. Packed plane, plenty of overhead space. The legroom was great. I'm 5'10 and never got uncomfortable. Used plane pillow against window, and the hum put me to sleep. If you go onto a flight expecting to be uncomfortable, you probably will be. Now the smaller planes are less comfortable like the 300. But long haul larger planes aren't as bad as most of these videos make them out to be. Oh and no one clapped or was even fazed when the plane landed. Service is excellent in Korean Airlines btw. One thing to be aware of when ordering special meals in Economy class, particularly on long-haul flights, is that you're often given less food overall than if you just chose from the 'beef or chicken?' options they serve everyone else. Often the standard meals come with e.g. a bread roll and/or cheese and biscuits and/or a chocolate bar or whatever, but with special meals - especially those with restrictions like being low in fat or sodium - you often only get a starter and main, and for dessert, whatever the menu, it's almost always a few pieces of fresh fruit.
So you might be missing out on the 'perks' of the ordinary meals just for the sake of getting served first and not having to queue for the toilet. Plus you still have to wait for drinks, as they're only offered when they serve the standard meals. So, yeah, worth bearing those things in mind :)
Oh, and I've noticed in the last year or two in particular that *way* more people are ordering special meals, so much so that last time we did it on a long-haul flight, about a third of the ordinary meals had already been served by the time we got our special meals. So depending on we're you're sitting in the Economy section, you might not be gaining that much or indeed any time at all, and you'll probably end up with less (and sometimes much more bland) food.

I enjoy your videos and as a long-time traveler have incorporated most of your travel hacks long before I ever found your channel. Thus, your hacks are good suggestions. One hack of my own is that I use a "Bagsmart" bag in my carry-on that organizes all my electronics and small items I want to keep handy for the flight. These bags are available in all sorts of sizes to meet anyone's needs. I use noise cancelling ear buds rather than foam ear plugs as they just work better, but I still take a few foam ear plugs for long flights as the batteries won't last for long international flights. Ear plugs not only work for the pressure changes but also for the nearby crying infant.

Seat selection at online check-in is useless most of the time as your choices are for
what is left after other passengers have purchased the best seats. I never wait for check in time to select seats. Instead I am more than happy to’ pay a little more to select my seat at time of booking. Once upon a time you could book a,preferred seat for free but like everything else in today’s world, it is about getting more money from customers. I always use the meal selection 😂as I am vegetarian and being served first is a bonus. It there is an additional benefit is that if you’re seated is at the back of the plane you may not get your choice from the set menu. Many a time my husband has missed out because they serve from the front of the plane back. Didn’t know about the neck, pillow being used the other way around. I have bought various ones and dumped them because they are so uncomfortable. I finally found one that is ergonomically designed with the back of the neck being very narrow and the sides built up in a shapely way so as to rest your head tilted to the side. And it compresses into a smaller shape to save space in packing. I got mine from the Singapore Airlines Kris Shop.. but you can get them on other sights.

One of my long haul flight hack is not eating on the plane if it's cross-Atlantics 9 hour flight, or max one meal if it's cross pacific 14+ hour flight. Arriving destination with empty GI track will make adjusting jet-leg much much easier. This gets easy if you already practice intermittent fasting, just make the trip as a fasting trip and drink plenty of water. plus, the airplane food in economy is not something enjoyable anyway, :)

Another informative video for long flight travel ! The biggest problem I have had is having a bony bottom and after awhile I am in discomfort. I purchased a Seat cushion gel pad for my next trip, so I hope that will help. I will not bring a neck pillow for the first time as I had never been able to make good use of it. Having a window seat I will lean up with the provided pillow instead. It is mandatory for me to have ear plugs and I always bring Silicone Earplugs, I use the Mack's Pillow soft Silicone Putty Earplugs. As for a meal I always have to order as I am vegetarian and yes, I was surprised that I was served first all the time so it is a nice perk as it turns out !! I also have never used the airplanes bathrooms - yes, even in long flights, but I will freshen up when I get off the plane at an airport bathroom which to me is much less stress and more room to manuver. My ultimate advice? Definitely invest in one of those neck pillows, bring a book and portable electronic. You're probably not going to sleep, so the trick of it is, go out on a date with your significant other or go out with your friends the night before you are going to go on the flight and stay out late. Sleep in the next morning and hopefully you get a flight at night. My last one was from Chicago to Paris and we left at 7pm here in the states, arriving at Paris around 11am. The jet lag is gonna kick your butt, but try to get a moderate amount of caffeine to get where you are staying, and don't fall asleep on the way. Luckily my Dad helped keep me awake when we were driving from Paris to Normandy France, but when you get to where you're staying, sleep or rest in bed for about two hours then grab something to eat when you wake up. You'll sleep that night a lot better because truth is the trip there as much of as adventure as it is, is tough. If you're of age, I also recommend a glass of wine or beer as jet lag is tough. It was the adventure of My life though and well worth it. Hope this helps.

Used to have special meals indicated when there was still WoldPerks under Northwest Airlines for low salt, less oily. But a flight almost not feed me with only few lettuce leaves, good the head Stewardess came without me asking and gave me foods telling the Jr. Stewardess that I also need to eat & were more palatable. I got the inkling it was for FA's consumption. Since then I just chose from onboard menu. On takeoff & touchdown, I just opened my mouth. When gotten older and hurt my back, learned to travel light. Just brought my genuine lightweight Pashmina shawl for blanket taking care it was up to knee only so as not to touch floor since I wore loose slacks and socks in shoes. Or if it's not too cold, I neatly rolled it and used as neck pillow. Not into coffee or tea so no need for hot water flask. Preferred to watch movies or sleep when it's needed and it's supposedly sleep time so as not to get too jetlag. Hydrate self by drinking water, not sodas or alcohol. Go to restroom when most are asleep and I chose aisle seats when I flew frequently to be free from bothering anybody.

Even if i was not paying the extra fee, I would have said yes. We weren't told until just before landing because it is hard to hide the fact that there all kinds of fire trucks and rescue vehicles lining both sides of the runway as we rolled along the runway. As a very frequent flyer, a "fanny" or waist pack (banana, bum bag) goes everywhere with me. It holds my valuables (passports, money, credit cards, medication, glasses, phone) and essentials (earplugs, earphones, eye drops, and a pen to fill out the arrival forms). It's easier to get at than the under seat backpack and safer than up top. When you go to the bathroom or in an emergency evacuation, your most important possessions stay with you.
And if you buy one of those with a security cable and security mesh skeleton such as the "Pacsafe", the bag can be used to secure your valuables in those hotel rooms without a safe.
Carry a small water bottle in hand and you are ready for just about anything.

We just got back from flying United Airlines to/from Hawaii/Denver. I chose a vegetarian meal and on both flights, my meal came first with a drink and my meal was hot. My son and husband got chicken or pasta and they said it was cold, unflavored and inedible (mushy pasta, cardboard chicken). My husband tried some of my veggie curry and he said it was very good and next time he was going to get vegetarian.
Another hack is to carry small plastic trash bags. I hate having to wait for the flight attendants to come by with the trash bin in order to be able to put up the seat tray to use the bathroom; you either have to pile up the trash and containers on your flying companion's tray or just wait for someone, but with a trash bag, you can scoop everything into it except the tray, put it on your seat or on the floor, and make a bee line for the bathroom.

I can’t tell you how rude people are. Guy in front of my husband one time immediately reclined his seat totally. Flight attendants have run into my husband’s legs with the cart without even looking or acknowledging it. His legs don’t fit in the seat so he sits sort of sideways.

Your videos are always very informative and helpful. I have used a lot of your tips and hacks, keep ‘em coming! You may want to include traveling with a data blocker to prevent juice jacking. (Of course after doing your own research.) I just recently found out about it. Following is info that I have “appropriated” from the FCC. it’s a little long, but could really be worth the time.
Juice jacking is a security exploit in which an infected USB charging station is used to compromise devices that connect to it. It enables an intruder to copy sensitive data from a mobile device, such as passwords, files, contacts, texts and voicemails. Installed malware can also include manipulation of a phone or computer, spying on a user, locking the user out of the device. A device charged by infected cables may, in turn, infect other cables and ports with the same malware, becoming an unknowing carrier of the virus.

    • @Over60andlivinglife-yr3lm

    • @laurascheib7390
      @laurascheib7390 Před měsícem +2

You can also buy a charging-only cable that doesn’t allow data transfer or use a power block and only charge with your cord plugged into your power block which is plugged into a regular outlet. A friend in the Navy taught me about the data risk of plugging my usb cord into a public usb plug. Never would have thought about it.
The tip above with the power bank is a great idea if your only option is to use a public usb plug.

Rather than eye drops instead get a 2-3 oz saline nasal spray, non-pressurized kind. This can be used to both moisturize your sinuses and as eye drops. Often it is cheaper than eye drops. Plus you can easily refill these with about 1/2 teaspoon salt in a cup of boiling water.
If dry eyes and sinuses are a common problem for you try pick a flight on a newer Boeing 787 or Airbus 350 plane that has better cabin pressurization. It makes a huge difference on long flights to be on one of these newer aircraft.
Perhaps the best thing I can stress is for long haul flights in economy do everything you can to minimize what you have under the seat in front of you. You are going to sorely regret cramming a backpack under there when you find out you can’t put it in the overhear bin for a 10hr flight and have no room to stretch your legs.
One thing to note about Seat Guru. It doesn’t really tell you about the under seat space arrangement on most planes. Older planes that were retro-fitted with entertainment systems often have huge junction boxes under the seats (often on the aisle seats) that can make getting even your feet under there hard enough never mind a bag. Fortunately this is mostly on older domestic planes like 737-800, but it could be an issue on some airlines outside North America that fly older widebody aircraft.

Before ordering a special meal, check all the food pages on the website, and see if you can find independent reviews of the special meals. Sometimes there are surprises.
I need to eat low carb, and "keto" is not a special meal option. On my last flight, none of the special meals were better than the standard - in fact, there was a "plain and simple" regular meal of plain roast chicken, cooked veggies, and salad. [I skipped the quinoa and cookie.] It beat all the special meals.
Depending on the catering service used, special meals can run from awful to just ok. The special meal caterers are different from those that provide the regular meals, and are different in different cities.
I would suggest pre-ordering your meal if you can. You might get your food early, but more important, they won't run out of your choice just before they get to your row!

For this reason, I always bring a battery bank for charging. If you want to charge on the plane, as you said, definitely use the plugs found in between the seats. Just make sure the power plug you bring has a snug fit with the outlet! I have tried using a larger and heavier plug that would continuously fall out of the outlet with the slightest movement. Very annoying.

Since we couldn't take food or liquids through international security, all food had to be purchased in the airport and since the food was brought onto the plane, the crew said they couldn't refrigerate or heat up the food.
