Based on my observation, vapes are a double-edged sword. They can help people quit smoking, or be a gateway to nicotine addiction.
The LGs of my generation seem to be picking it up as a stress-reliever.
That was my assessment exactly.
Good to hear Aussies are generally reducing their smoking. When I visited Australia in the 1980s, I was shocked at the high number of smokers. At the time, the US had around 25% smokers. Australia was something like 40-45%. It was horrible. You could never get away from the stench.
It’s about 7 to 9% now. And the government is continuing to increase taxes on cigarettes. They hope to lower it to 5% by 2030.
Vaping helped me finally quit smoking. That's the only use for it, in my opinion. Easy to quit vaping by dialing the nicotine down to zero.
@rogermckenzie2711 When I quit the cigs in 2010, I used Champix pills. Completely quit smoking in about 4 wks, & completed the pills about 6 wks after that. Never touched a smoke since. Not to say I haven't been tempted, but I know if I have one I'll be hooked again, & I sure can't afford that. I think it's about $90 now for a pack of 50s. Aus govt keeps loading all these taxes on them & wonder why ppl are smoking black market stuff..... Politicians aren't as smart as they think

every single thing that happens in your body happens because of chemical reactions. your body is essentially a chemical reaction chamber. adding industrially manufactured chemicals will undoubtedly cause problems for some percentage of the people who expose themselves to the chemicals. my personal experience from being close to vapers to “enjoy” their exhaust clouds tells me that there’s some unfriendly chemicals involved. considering their track record i don’t understand why anyone would trust a chemical manufacturer. humans always cut corners on safety if it raises their profits. something to think about. ☮️ ❤🌏🌍🌎

I caught pneumonia 13 times since 18 from smoking cigarettes. It brought motivation down and I was always out of breath. That was a major indicator that smoking is bad for you... since I started vaping 11 years ago, I haven't ever had pneumonia since; I can run laps around the block; my motivation is back; I can smell the fresh air; and the only juices I use are store made with natural oils and nicotine only, so... feeling much better and like a non- smoker, I would say that is a true indication it definitely is NOT worse than smoking cigarettes. The effort to get rid of vaping is simply to eliminate the competition for tobacco companies and big pharma, because, you know, cancer is big business.

It's the nico that gets ya. And keeps ya. I'm 5 years on the spray after 40 years puffin. Costs about a quarter as rollies and nobody hassles me. None of my kids go near the stuff, so I'll take that as a win.
It's also the nicotine that gets demonised. The reality is, nicotine is about as harmful and addictive as caffeine.
It does not cause seizures, it does not damage the brain (this one was based on one flawed study on rats that is irrelevant to humans).
Do you get it on the PBS? as those sprays/mists are such a ripoff. If not, you should really look into making your own spray. Just add nicotine salts to a breath mint spray.

Vaping is an alternative to smoking tobacco. Certainly not a healthy life choice but is definitely hurting the tobacco industry financially. It helped me quit nicotine and eventually stop. Everyone has a different opinion on the subject.

Secondly, no one smoking real tobacco (pipe and cigar smokers) inhales. The lungs have nothing to do with anything.

I used it to stop smoking. I don't need either of them anymore. I didn't even use Nicotine in the vape. It took about 3 months and I was tobacco and vape free. I had smoked tobacco for 28 years. Have not smoked for 5 years.
61 yo. My daughter smoked as a teen. I made it clear that it was not okay. She has a litany of health problems and she still vapes. Breaks my heart, but she's an adult now. When I were a lad, they said tobacco was good for you.

Speaking of health, I’ve been wondering, how does an average 20-something turn up gorgeous - fifteen years later? There must be something that person did that had a massive impact on their health. Did they take up having a drink or two every evening? Was it the move from the city to the coast, with sunshine, sea breeze and sandy feet? There’s a story and valuable lesson somewhere in what appears to be an amazing transformation.

We have been breathing it in for decades. Remember the fog machines at the blue light discos? That was just a heated PG/VG mix which produced giant vapour clouds. Yep it's the same thing! Vapes just have nicotine added & food grade flavouring. Any child can go and buy nicotine at Coles (gum, patches, mist) as nicotine is not dangerous. Inhaling combustion products is the danger. Combustion/Burning = bad. Vape is what it states, it's"vaporisation" due to heating, no combustion is occurring.
Sorry, nicotine is a procarcinogen metabolized into a suite of various carcinogens.
Once I was at the Montreal Grand Prix and I saw that man: He had two hotdogs in one hand, two beers in the other and a cigarette in his mouth. When he met a friend, he could'nt even say Hello! properly and forget about shaking hands. The man was disable. Ya! no ways for him to do anytrhing without putting something in his mouth. In Europe, particularly Eastern Europe, it is still a problem, but I have a solution:
Buy yourself one of those lithium ion battery powered 6” portable fans from Amazon and if the table in the restaurant next to is bothering you with their smoke, point the fan their way and turn it up to maximum speed.
When they object, you say “I do apologise is my fresh air bothering you?”
No, the laws in Australia in regards to vaping are polar opposites. Something to do with corruption and protecting the tobacco industry and the 15 billion dollars per year in tax.
The UK government recently sent out free vapes to everyone who traded in their packet of ciggies.

I tried everything to quit smoking. The only thing that worked was vaping, lowing to dose of nicotine and then quitting.

I have exactly the same conversation with people who choose 'diet' drinks over those with natural sugars! Why would you prefer to put a (bad tasting IMHO) chemical into your body than natural substances? Ripper, Bonza and any other Aussie adjectives suitable! For a couple people I know no matter how hard they tried they couldn't stop drinking pop. And they were type 2 diabetic. So the switch for them to diet even though not a healthy choice was better than losing a foot to diabetes

I vape, I don't think it's cool, it's a lot cheaper than cigarettes. I don't blow it in people's faces either. Oh, I don't drink or smoke weed, so there's that. I believe in free choice, I don't whine and snivel when I see someone doing something I don't. At 57 years old I'll do what I like thank you very much. And I don't give a nod of approval to vice just because it's been around for a long time.
I think her main point is the unknown risks involved, not that people should be denied free choice. To me personally the vape market looks dodgy as hell so I choose not to do it but to each their own.

2 days after my first vape arrived, i put out my last cigarette.
Never looked back.

Vaping is an alternative to smoking and just as annoying. The vapers just take a puff no matter where they are. Especially, if they are not allowed to vape in a store, they do it on the sly.

I LIke the video, I have friends that vape, but didn't smoke, i don't get it. I used to smoke, now just chew gum, if i was going to vape, i may as well have kept smoking!
As luck would have it I can say, I don't know. I do know two people who used vapes to quit smoking all together. But I know others who switched to vape and are still using it. I also know one who went back to cigarettes. Also they make candy flavor vapes to get younger people to start.
Smoking in Europe....that's a very broad generalization. Where I live, Sweden, we have about half the proportion of smokers compared to Australia. Keep working on it 😜

Not all of Europe is way behind the no smoking movement. At least in the Netherlands the national government has made significant progress, which is a pleasant surprise because that country had LOTS of smokers a few decades ago. The last time I was there, smoking was not permitted inside restaurants and the ban was expected to extend to outside tables. I'm not sure about the use of vaping there.

I vape in private to replace and quit smoking but personally I find the ones who do it in public look like douches. Especially the ones with these giant devices that contain sweet vape and little nicotine, like what the fuck is the point?
When I got diagnosed as a type 1 diabetic at 24 in 2005, I quit drinking and learned all about carb counting etc but quitting smoking was literally impossible.
Since vaping two years ago I went from a pack a day to a pack a month while vaping at home in private. Sure we don't know the long term affects but for me personally my blood pressure is better and I no longer feel like shit. Smoking for a type 1 you can literally feel the blood vessels shrinking and you feel like absolute shit. So yay vaping but I will never ever vape in public since it's as douchy looking as men who weigh 125lbs with lumberjack beards dressed in flannel plaid shirts and skinny jeans, which here in Canada is a common occurrence 😂

I’m over in England at the moment, I’m amazed by the amount of people who vape . Big blokes sucking on candy floss flavoured vapes but the amount of young kids vaping is shocking and sad .
Because they actually look at the science and conduct very in-depth studies into vaping and understand it carries only a tiny fraction the harms smoking does. They also clearly aren't as reliant on tobacco tax revenue there.
It's encouraged over there as a quit smoking aid, same in NZ.
Australia's stance on vaping is very dangerous and it will cost many lives by preventing smokers access to a much healthier alternative. Heads should roll.
Would these vapers inhale a lung or two full of ammonia, it think not, so why do they suck in a lung or two of vape liquid, I gave up smoking 20 years ago cold turkey and never touched one since.
Because there's no payoff to inhale ammonia, they vape for the same reason you smoked. Thankfully you quit.

Although the UK is no longer in te EU we are still part of Europe and we don't and haven't for some years, allowed smoking in Cafes and restaurants. Likewise in Hospitals and enclosed public spaces. I can't speak for all member states but France, Belgium and Germany don't either. But let me say that vaping whether it smells of Strawberries or whatever is just as antisocial and I will not tolerate being immersed in clouds of it. Hasten the day when all forms are banned and the health of idiots is safeguarded. 🙄

Well done again Nikki ; I too have my vices , a bit of alcohol and my home-grown ,home-made edible weed biscuits, quite relaxing in the evening. (78 yo rural male farmer). Couple of points I will mention; be aware THC can stay in your body for up to 30 days, ( police drug test, post accident blood test (insurance voided). Personally I won’t drive on a busy road for 36 hours after weed as I think it impairs my reaction time , maybe it’s my age but that’s what I observe.

Hello Nikki! I 100% agree. Vaping is damned obnoxious, and here in the USA people will blow it right in your face as well, and then get mad when someone tells them that the "no smoking" sign applies to vaping as well and will put up an argument when you ask them to stop it or leave. I do agree that it's an effective way to quit tobacco but it's become an obsession in and of itself.
