Thank goodness, Hollywood never got its claws and teeth on Guy Pearce. His work is so pure.
That's because he never lived in Hollywood. His home was always in Melbourne until recently
Agree. Viggo is another one who refuses to compromise.
He was in Iron Man 3. What are you on about?
@@vanimaladventures Cripes. He was. In arguably the worst installment of that franchise. Maybe he saw that Ben Kingsley was on board.
@@vanimaladventuresIt’s not his usual flare though. He’s much more partial to cutting edge indie films. He just does a blockbuster every once in a while, probably for the money because they pay better. He also had a very expensive divorce in 2015 so he took all sorts of crap to come back from that.
What a great theme , about time these stories were told. Guy Pearce's choices rarely disappoint.
Im so tired of this hippy "peace cannot come through violence" nonsence.
@@freemason4979 try watching it
@@freemason4979 Imagine how we Ukrainians are tired of this.
Not like this though.
@@yevgeniyaleshchenko849 I hope it is good. Not an easy thing to achieve in any film
I love guy Pearce! He’ll go from big budget cinema to a return guest spot on an Australian soap opera. He really cares for his artwork, and not the spotlight.
He hasn't had a big budget role in a long time though.
This is different, i dont think enough films about Polynesian cultures have been made, definitely gonna watch!😊
A movie that looks like a movie. It always works with me.
Whoa, hol up. You mean people make movies that aren't a reboot, sequel, prequel, sidequel, Marvel/DC, superhero movie rife with shoddy cgi!!!!!? Refreshing. Thank you!!
What is this magic you speak of!?
Remember when they remade gaslight 4 years after the original? This is a dumb lazy take by someone who obviously doesn’t watch movies
Cringe. There’s plenty of non-blockbuster movies that get made every year. They never stopped.
Check out this company called A24
The irony in your comment is hilarious. This is literally Pocahontas set in New Zealand😭
The story alone, but then you add Guy Pearce to it.....???
SOLD!!!! Im down to watch simply for the good time.
guy pierce is a boss! should he a bigger star.
He’s way better as a character actor than as a star. He’s far too versatile and interesting to be a Pitt or DiCaprio. Personally, I love his indie stuff much more than the blockbuster stuff.
He's been on quite the tear of awful movies though. This looks to be his first good movie in almost a decade.
@@ComedyBros5 Yah his expensive divorce kind of screwed his career up. His last great film was probably Brimstone.
@@TheGreatestVoice1958 That makes sense. Timeline adds up. Hope he finally gets his feet back under him. He's too great of an actor to be getting trash movies already.
@@ComedyBros5 I remember in an interview he did he referred to having to a lot of “divorce films”. Hopefully he’ll make a comeback, I agree he’s far too great to star in Redbox crap. Hopefully he’ll team up with Hillcoat again for Blood Meridian.
We need more movies like this, looking forward to it.
No we don't.
@@yevgeniyaleshchenko849 yes we do.
Nope
19th century historical epic? IM THERE
Yay Guy Pearce!! Can't wait for this film to be released
Guy Pierce is more artist than actor and he always gives 💯 to every role. 💪💜
Movie looks super interesting! I read books about tribes who became Christians, put down their weapons, forgave their enemies, stopped the generational feud and spread peace among their enemy tribes.... there are many of such testimonies.
Indeed, we had many a missionaries (get ya mind outta the gutter!! 😆) live in nz in the early 1800s, and they helped us change some of our ways. There were also some religious members that ought to destroy our cultural practises too.. which is fckn crazy in itself.
Hell and yes I...will...see...this...movie!
Bring it on! It looks epic!
Guy Pearce, a truly fine actor ❤
Indeed. :)
It's kinda crazy how many maori films are coming out these days, very impressed.
This is going to be fantastic.
Finally! a movie I'll pony up cash to see in a theater. Not many where I live.
This honestly looks really good 🎥
I'm looking forward to it!
Love movies like this! And, of course, Guy Pearce!
this is looking really good. AND Guy Pearce deserves some respect.
YES PLEASE!!!!!!!!
These missionary films are strong in recent years quite a few.
Guy Pearce is in my favourite movie off all time bed time stories
Pfff this looks so good. Thank God this guy never disapointed
Cant wait for this, looks refreshingly epic.
Can't wait for this!
I hope this delivers on the themes it seems to explore in the trailer. Is religion, is culture, always just a personal brand of identity, or is there a way for us to transcend what has come before by changing our beliefs? How will we answer our conscience when we seemingly betray our inherited roles to embrace a bold new personal choice? What is the role of duty in conscience? In this trailer Pearce's role seems understated, and I hope there is more to it than that.
I like your analysis!
Its been a long time but thank God for guy Pearce
Anybody see 'Once were Warriors'? A fabulous movie.
I love "Once Were Warriors"! A lot of the cast got into more mainstream movies and tv shows after that movie. Cliff Curtis and Temuru Morrison in particular.
This is so cool! At first I thought that this must be Plymouth Rock, Jamestown, or Roanoke, but then I saw the people and the surroundings. Not knowing New Zealand's history as well as I should, it looks amazing and quite similar to colonial patterns in early English (then British) North America, aka America in the 1600s. Difference is, New Zealand/Aotearoa is a multicultural nation shared between natives and settlers today, which is really cool.
This looks great!!!
This looks awesome
looks incredible
Looks awesome.
Im so in for this
Looks very interesting! Please bring it to german cinemas
Can’t wait
Anyone here remember Utu?
Very intriguing
TLDW: Si vis pacem, para bellum. If you’re not willing to fight for what you believe in, what you believe in will not exist.
Funny, Vegetius is absolutely right. Not everything can be solved with a Pen, but with Swords alone
this looks really cool
Die was warriors! Or eternal rise faster of pure lovely perfection of total successful greatnesss of very true perfect performance skills.👏
Now who can argue with that?
I’ll be watching
Looks good.
Looks good
Trailer music ? Please
Looks great.
Reminds me of the movie 'Edge of the World' which I also enjoyed.
excellent
Couldn’t you get Sam Neil? Jokes aside Guy Pearce is an amazing actor! Will definitely support this one by getting a ticket.
This looks to be a good film. The Māori were a warlike people, what they did to the peaceful Moriori on the Chatham Islands illustrates that.
damn, this looks good
Great work as the problem with the world is that it's recognizes every resistance except the present one!
It's odd that this is being released so close to Ka Whawhai Tonu
CINEMA!!
I'm in.
This is cinema
Yes Yes Yes - very interesting!
11:15 "Peace cannot be achieved through violence"
Yes it can..
Must see
Respect to the brave natives, you did your best protecting your lands against foreign imperialists.
dose any one know where I can download this for free
"maybe the conversions really were all the friends we made along the way"
The Last Samurai for Maori?
"The Last Samurai" from Ali express
sounds good to me
😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍. It's for the show not for the guy. I am straight.
Dope-ass director.
Kamehameha is not in this picture?
Kamehameha is Hawaiian from Hawai‘i (which is the Northern point of the Polynesian triangle). This movie takes place in Aotearoa (New Zealand) which is the Southern Point of the Polynesian Triangle.
Looks very cool! I've marked my calendar. Love Guy Pearce. (and was that the chick from PREY?)
No. The girl from Prey is Amber Midthunder and this girl’s name is Tioreore Ngatai Melbourne.
@@user-lf6cf2ro4i good to know. I thought the face looked different!
Maori doin the haka, sign me up!
The director is Maori so hopefully we get a good story.
Hope the maori’s kick their ass in this one.
The story is simple.
White man baaaaad!
Hopefully, he's a good director, or else it doesn't matter how good the story is. Also, it does not matter that he's Maori. Quit being a racist.
This looks amazing, I hope all those in the comments claiming to be tired of what’s being put out in theaters nowadays actually go out and support films like these in theaters and don’t just virtue signal online
This wasn't filmed in the Panderverse, it looks actually good 😁
Looks surprisingly authentic. What's more important than accurate details is that the presentation and vibe of the era rings true. It was then a land of great violence and this trailer does a good job representing that. I still fear revisionist history that will twist perceptions away from the truth of the time, but if the movie shows the history like this trailer does then it may be a classic and probably widely used in schools as an aid in teaching the era.
I like the concept of a peaceful missionary coming into a foreign land at war and having to come to terms with such unpleasant difficult realities. I wonder who "the convert" will be, and what the conversion is to. It may be that it is the missionary himself. Surely his idealistic views will be put to the test.
Sounds like you are looking forward to witness the truth of the convert.
Yeah, revisionist
A movie worth watching in theaters, finally. Well I say that due to a lot of crappy movies in theaters. Not all of them, but a majority of them have been terrible.
I love when some people romantize places before the arrival of Europeans. As though Europeans invented violence.
If this is about New Zealand, I will watch it.
Trailer clearly depicts Maori people and early colonial New Zealand.
"Is this about New Zealand?"
This looks very much like what happened in real life! Missionary Don Richardson shared his experiences in Papau New Guinea his book Peace Child.
Moana 2 looks dark!
I hope it’s not woke. I will wait to hear before I go.
Not to be missed!!
Will The Rock make an appearance?
La Mision 2.0?
Yep, already booked my tickets
I'm getting chicken skin watching this trailer
Looks similar to the Mission with Jeremy irons and de niro
Were they all really so ripped?
Even more so, try looking at homeless people with little food, total ab city
Warriors can't be fat
@@halfon005 I'm talking about their bulk more than their definition. Maybe "ripped" wasn't the best word, but all of these people obviously have a very high-protein diet.
They lived a tribal lifestyle, ie did physical labor, walked/ran/canoed around a lot, practiced fighting with their weapons, on a daily basis. On top of that, ate a diet of fresh seafood/meat/plants. Quite easy to be in good fighting shape with all that considered.
And honestly, there are still many people in the world who live like that and look like that (minus training for fighting I guess), such as SE Asians and West Africans. The downfall of many of these warrior/tribal cultures is manufactured food and alcohol. For many Polynesians, it’s both of them, resulting in high obesity and crime rates.
If you look at indigenous populations with little recourse to anything other than what they can pull from the land themselves, you tend to see a lot of people with 'average' bodies, some people who are a bit skinny or fat, and some people who look remarkably muscular. The ratios of each group
change a bit from place to place. West Africans seem more than others be really jacked, beyond what you expect. There are genes that control how much muscle the body breaks down, that gene has probably been selected against more
often in their population. I've also known 2 guys I can recall, 1 when I was in high school the other in college, both of whom were damn jacked but without any meaningful exercise or diet to account for it, so that must be the genes.
Dances With Maori
Hahahaha
Saw this movie today, no spoilers but wanted to say I learnt a lot about this period (1830) in NZ history, it was like a history lesson running alongside the storyline that unravelled
👍🏼
Looks half decent.
If you directed Die Another Day... maybe don't bring that up... ever...
When someone sees their first Haka and thinks "how can I base an entire movie around those?"
The Maori were incredibly bloodthirsty. While most primitive peoples practiced limited warfare - tit for tat, stealing mates but also trading - Maori were unique in that they had wars of annihilation. The other side was shown no mercy, the battles went on long after any other primitive tribe would have stopped. They are an interesting anomaly in primitive warfare.
Ok
going to see it this weekend!
thanks god its not jason momoa AGAIN the cast
The Maori are really tall people 😮
That's because they ate all the short people of the tribe. Historical fact. Look up Maori cannibalism.
