Well, if everything he said in that chain of tweets is true then it sounds like a lot of it was out of his control and he just ended with the perfect storm of things going wrong. It sounds like he did the best he could given the circumstances. It's still hilarious how it all turned out though
I'm not condemning him for that. It's possible that's untrue, but things do happen. Could very well have been a salvage job beyond his control. I'm just stating that, bottom line: people looking to hire someone care about results. He's really shooting himself in the foot by leaving that explanation up.

At this point they HAVE to be doing it on purpose. There is no way I can believe that a group of people associated with an IP like sonic can end up producing nothing but shit constantly after SO LONG.
Except for Sonic Unleashed, Sonic Colours, Sonic Generations, and Sonic Lost World to name a few.
Lost World was average at best and a fun-vampire at worst.

It's called poor management. You're right that there are probably a lot of talented people who've worked hard on Sonic games and related things during that time, but poor management ruins all. Look into the development of Sonic 06 and Sonic Boom (two of the worst disasters in the series) for perfect examples of the kinds of things Sonic developers have to put up with from their management. Now, Sonic Boom and Sonic 06 seem like they were probably never going to be that good, from what I've read about their early plans, but the poor management would effect everything they do, up to and including PR and events like this one.
I see no evidence that proves they weren't playing in a middle school auditorium.

I think half the issues were from the event director leaving early so he could be the at the front of the unemployment line the next morning.

generally in tv/stream recording you can't hear the audience, because the audio would just be constant screaming. kinda lame in situations like this where there's reliance on the audience for participation but eh, you're not going to be that fast on the levels when you're livestreaming.

If that's actually a thing (the video was so cringy I didn't watch), it could be decent. Having admittedly only watched a lets play of Sonic 06, it feels like the biggest issue with the game is the loading times and the performance, both of which would be massively improved by ten years of advances in RAM, HDD/SSD, and CPU/GPU power. If they took another pass over the gameplay, and maybe a look at the script, it could even possibly be... almost good.

It could also be an attempt to ward away technical glitches from the actual projects. You can tell that Mania at least was hoped to be ready to launch this year but required more time and after Rise of Lyric I think Sega have finally learned to not push out Sonic games before they're finished, even though it must've killed them internally to miss a 5 year anniversary for the first time.

I had a lot of fun watching this event. You an tell Sonic Team doesn't take themselves too seriously. I was straight up LAUGHING at some parts. Like the "NOW LOADING" graphic instead of the text description of Sonic 06 in the "History Of Sonic" Video recap.
You can tell these guys are very self aware and just having a good time. And I respect that.
Also, Sonic Mania Looks FUN! (Although that Sonic 2017 just looks like "Sonic06 2 & Generations".
If they were truly being "self aware" as you claim, they would have fixed the audio and video troubles that went throgh out the show.
I wouldn't be surprised if it was some kind of hardware failure or otherwise too extensive an issue to fix without canceling the event.
I've been to the House of Blues venue that the even was held a good plenty of times, and it's a music venue. It's NOT by any means a press conference hall. They don't usually stream live, even the music.
If you ask the people that were at the event they'll tell you the audio was fine, and the live music sounded great.
They really don't have the infrastructure to live stream a press conference. I'm sure the live stream was an afterthought.
Then why livestream from a music venue? Being an afterthought is not an excuse
