Davy Jones (Monkees) live in Pittsburgh 5/14/10

As filmed for PBS at Benedum Theatre w/myself, Jessica Pacheco, and members of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. For me this was an auspicious occasion on several counts-including that, for the first time, I played guitar on songs that I usually played bass or keyboards on. Before everyone went onstage, Paul Revere asked me to nudge Davy into joining them as both The Monkees and The Raiders have a connection to the song “Steppin’ Stone.” Davy balked at first but finally caved in. Elsewhere on this shoot (we were there 2 days) was Jay Black (Jay & The Americans), Roger McGuinn, The Miracles (the classic line-up minus Smokey Robinson), and Gary Lewis w/my friend, drummer Mike Arturi. Also, I was blessed to spend time with Jackie DeShannon (who MC'd) and Chad & Jeremy. The project was produced by Jim Pierson.
”Daydream Believer” is still in circulation on PBS, but the full set was broadcast just one time, including Davy’s cameo with Paul Revere & The Raiders. From that single broadcast came some misconceptions-particularly from the mouth of an errant PBS announcer who falsely claimed this was Davy’s last live concert. In actuality, Davy performed at least 100 more concerts plus an international Monkees reunion tour before he died in 2012.

Hello Johnny, this show just popped up on my phone, I just finished sending my personal feelings to a write up about, Neil Dimond, and why he is no longer performing 😢 I sent who ever will be reading my message to him and his whole family ❤ I mentioned to Neil, Thanking him for writing, and giving The Monkees
the songs he wrote. I mentioned, that they gave me great joy for many yrs. Which helped me to discover his BELOVED, BEAUTIFUL GIFTS ❤ I told him, he and his beloved family will be for ever in my prayers and heart ❤ Now Johnny, my reason for writing to you, when I finished my message to Neil, your work you recorded, of David, you and the rest of the band and his wife Jessica. Thank you, I was a bit sadden by the news ,that has been out today about Neil's health 😢 Thank you, for always being there for all of us ❤ I feel like ever since our David Jones, left us, you have been there, in some BEAUTIFUL WAY , YOU ALWAYS CHEER ME UP ❤ DAVID WOULD LOVE, THAT OF YOU ❤ I was befriended by him ,back in April 77, after a NYC show he and Micky performed , at the Riverboat Cafe . When David asked my name and where I was from, his eyes lit up! And he started asking me if I written letters to him. Well, it turned out, he'd loved them for yrs.! Because they weren't the usual fan letters and he told me, that they had become to him, like a chat.,and said ,there have been times he really needed that chat. He asked for my phone number and he told me ,now I may not call ya, but you never know? He said, he was very busy and he had no time for anything, any more! Johnny, over the yrs. he went from a friend to a friend with a father's heart. Peter Thorkelson befriended me also , and was the same way, just our David, was the English, Welshman version, and Peter was the American hippie version❤ Jennifer McLeod was also very dear to me ❤ Johnny, I so very glad, you were so close to David, and his family ❤ He really needed someone to be with like you were in his life ,like a Son , I felt Jerry Reno was to him in the past ❤ DAVID, l felt had a lot of, personal pain not many knew about, only his closest ❤ THANKYOU FOR BEING ,ONE OF HIS CLOSEST ❤ I FEEL A LOVE IN MY HEART, FOR YOU AND YOUR FAMILY ❤ MAY I SAY, MAY THE BLOOD OF JESUS COVER YOU AND YOUR BELOVED FAMILY❤ ALWAYS ❤ MARY

Hello again Johnny, sorry,,I sometimes misspelled words, or don't write a sentence correctly or even a name. My problem is I'm 69 yrs. old, I sometimes get emotional writing, my heart gets in the way, these days, my fingers are a bit stiff, and I type like a monkey 🐒 and yes, I do mean monkey 🐒 Not our BELOVED MONKEES ❤ THANKYOU AGAIN FOR BEING YOU ❤ MARY
