16:00 Adam Phillips: On Not Believing In Anything: Or, Why Freud?
Using Robert Musil's The Man Without Qualities and Thomas Mann's Doctor Faustus as some kind of context for Freud's work during the catastrophic cultural disillusionments of the First and Second World Wars, the lecture explores how psychoanalysis - and Freud's work in particular - addresses questions about the nature of belief, and what it might be about so-called human nature that we can go on believing in after such global destructiveness.
Adam Phillips was formerly Principal Child Psychotherapist at Charing Cross Hospital in London, and is now a psychoanalyst in private practice in London and a writer. He is the author of over twenty books on psychoanalysis and literature, most recently On Getting Better and The Cure for Psychoanalysis. He is a Visiting Professor in the English Department at the University of York, and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature. - Věda a technologie

I'm convinced observation is mainly projection...
Actually, life is about wanting. At its fundamental level. The challenge is to discover what, or who, it is.
Can I get the transcription anywhere?
Hi, we will issue a little book publication with the text, it is due early 2024
What is the word he said in the end? “Thank god we are --- fundamentally”??
I think it’s “atheists.”
"Aesthetes"? (The quote from Nietzsche is "We possess art lest we perish of the truth.”)
aesthetes is correct

Are not all children curious? 😮
How well I understand all these lost, non conforming, disillusioned souls. I too wandered around attempting to find meaning in life.
Eventually, after realizing that I was living a lie, I had no choice other than to confront myself.
Dark and claustrophobic . Who else would incite others to subscribe to these blanket interpretations of human interaction - is there no unexplainable reality /time or magic .
Bleakness is not a sign of intellectualism
