One of the best ways to help premature babies is to swaddle them on the bare chest of their parent. This keeps the baby warm and helps them get healthy bacteria on their skin.
Can confirm, it's a great choice. A friend of mine was (prepare yourself) born on a cruise ship during a storm with her twin sister. The ship obviously didn't have a NICU, especially back then (she's a boomer) so they kept the twins warm by servers and off-duty kitchen staff keeping them inside their chef's jackets. Crazy right? It gets weirder. Any time either of them need confirmation of birth or a reissued birth certificate or just any ID at a certain level, they have to contact a WELSH SHIPPING COMPANY to prove where and how they were born. Genuinely a pain in the ass, but such a funny story.
Its gonna sound weird but i practiced this in my cat when i adopted her and it seemed to have helped, she was a sick and really really malnourished baby so aditionally to the food and the treatment i put her against my skin, im not 100% sure of its efectiveness but it helped make her feel calm, warm, protected and loved and now she is a very healthy and grown up cat
Skin to skin also helps with pain in the arse lovers that say they are cold at night. Skin to skin helps regulate heat (just means both bodys work in a sort of harmony)
Weird comparison, but I did this with my lizard once. It was like 25°F and the power had gone out around midnight, so I placed my little frozen Leopard gecko in a flat carrier I made, and tucked her under my legs in bed. That morning she woke up very confused, and very warm
I would be so sad when I couldn't do kangaroo time wheen my son was in NICU 😢 I stayed in that hospital for 2 weeks with him. Went from being born in one county to being in NICU in another county 1hr away. Was there the whole time❤ I the same room. Sleeping on a couch. I couldn't leave him
The most important point is that leaving a baby by itself is outright leaving them in hell. See, a baby cannot imagine pasts and future yet. It lives completely in the now. Meaning that if it’s just laying there by itself, it cannot imagine that there is somebody to save it. No mother, no caregiver. There has never been a someone. It’s completely forever alone. And since nothing moves around it (signs of life) it’s nervous system rightly produces immense amounts of stress to alarm the tribe. Because in ancient times, no movement meant that the mother is dead. Ancient mothers brought their babies everywhere they go, so our nervous systems adapted to constant movement as babies. Beds, and even worse: „little hospital cages“ are literally pure hell for our little loved ones. That’s why they scream sometimes so torturous, because it is just that.
I don't think they used this model of thinking back then. I remember my younger brother (RIP) was a premature baby. And no way did doctors let my mom or us touch him. He spent most of his time in the incubator. Also, anyone that has been diagnosed with sepsis has no chance of surviving it (unless you are diagnosed early you're done).
In this case, the research I’ve come across seems to uphold what they’re saying. “But cradling a baby gives them more than just a sense of security. It’s precious medicine for premature babies, who often come into the world with weak immune systems and undeveloped lungs. When preemies are held and touched, their vital signs often improve, and researchers have found that it also boosts neurodevelopmental outcomes and stimulates growth.” From the University of California
I was premature and never got any of thatx in fact i was left alone a massive part of my early childhood Im currently the toughest person ive ever met at 27 and i think everyone else is a fat alcoholic cigarete smoking troglodyte

Wow, what a story!
One heck of a backstory to tell your children and grandkids
So it is true what they say when you're born in free waters, it is the ship or plane's company country of origin that they become a national.
Not only a great story but a well-written one by you! I laughed after reading why I needed to "prepare" myself.
Aww that's incredibly wholesome :D
Makes sense since mothers and babies have probably evolved to hold onto each other a hell of a lot after birth, like a lot of similar mammals

This works with all premature mammals!
It could be possible to save baby birds broken out of their egg too early with this too.
That stick baby is so cute lol
I want snuggles too
I don't want to snuggle someone with the profile that looks like that
@@Toiletman466Then don't.
@@Toiletman466Your username explains a lot.
Sometimes we have to go back to our roots
I know damn well id do it even to a fully matured baby, cuz i love cuddles
Also, hugs stimulate oxytocin production, which is good for you in just about every way.

This is so cute and so wonderful to know
i find that every parent should know this
Some countries charge the parents for skin to skin contact :(
Whaaaaat
Just to hold the baby close to themselves???
What... Why?!?!
what😭
Wow, which countries? No baby should be denied contact with the parent 😥
That's messed up!

I was super premature when I was born. And purple. But hey. Here I am today.
We did that with our son! It was amazing to see how much easier he breathed in "the pouch".

You see this in all primates.
In species that don’t move until their eyes open, you have to make sure they can constantly smell their mom.
Touch is healing

i agree
Very controversial
How dare you. Such a vile sentence.
Wrong place for that kind of controversy

Who else is picturing Karev from that episode of Grey's where he does this?????

If you want a wild story, check out the child hatchery.
Ok but that baby is so cute
Why did I think he would yeet the baby?
haha that’s me! (premature)
You forgot something. Snuggles are also very very nice😊
The bacteria thing is actually why they put a freshly delivered baby on mother's chest
I wasn’t held by my parents for the first two weeks I was alive 💀
Premie sounds like a slur ngl
Baby
Ohh so natural immunity is real? Lol
Great channel btw
To a degree.
Oh no, babe, I’m sick
