  • Casey Putsch finished his dream 1983 Porsche 944 that is white with white Fuchs wheels and the black interior with the old dash. Casey finds out if it will start and shows the new Pasha fabric seats and Martini and Rossi stripes. The car decides not to start from sitting too long and spoils the fun of hearing the new full exhaust system.

    Casey is also building the King Zero V12 supercar instead of doing a commercial for Avalon King ceramic coating because commercials are lame! HAHAHAHA!!! But ceramic coating still freaking works, so that's why he actually uses it in real life!

    Hey Casey, the KW V3s are made to use with the torsion bars left on the car. The rear spring rates are not meant to be used on their own. You are supposed to index the bars a bit lower to allow the KWs to work properly. Otherwise you are probably going to find the rears a bit soft. Also it's a good idea to get a longer lower bolt for the rear shock, the factory shock is narrower at the bottom and therefore the shorter bolt doesn't engage into the trailing arm threads as much. Hope that helps!

    Since you're always talking about inspiring young people I thought I'd share my experience. I'm 23 and newly married. Your 944 videos inspired me to buy a very cheap and very broken 86' 944 last summer. It took me around 6 months of fixing one thing and finding another problem, but its finally driveable. Thanks for the videos, your rock!

    Love it! You just did the exact opposite of every other CZcamsrs out there and made your car look bad. That means, their value will stay just where it is! Superb! I'll be able to afford another one! Oh, your "noise" at ~4K RPM, could be the balance shaft, lower or upper, or the balance shaft belt tensioner. Wild guess without seeing the car, but mine was the tensioner at just a touch under 4K RPM. Let's hope it's a simple fix for you, with your motor history. Take Care!

    Casey, I had the same noise on several older (80's) Subarus, which were famous for it. The seals on the hydraulic lifters age, and the oil leaks out of them after shutdown when the engine is hot. Then when you start up cold, it takes a while before the cold oil can get forced through the tiny orifices and pump the lifters back up, which means heinous valve lash until the oil warms up.
    I'm pretty sure the 944 also has hydraulic lifters, so might be something to look at.

    Regarding the redone seating position that annoys you, don't fret, the foam has a period of time until it settles down a bit. I redid the seats on my oldest car, a Fiat, and i absolutely hated them. The guy who remade them told me to have patience, because making them to old spec, would've dropped them further down. And he was right. Mine took about a year of ... off and on use. Your mileage may vary (as the saying goes).

  • @aserta

    If you're modding the car for better suspension, that means you'll be in there extensively (or as much as it requires, regardless, behind the wheels), IMO, you should upgrade the braking system from "master cylinder to pads". I KNOW, massive overhaul, but it's worth it. As much as i love these in stock trim, the brakes aren't exactly keeping up with modern times.
    PS digging the strips. Been a while since i saw one with these. For some reason, the poshies find them ghastly, ... yeah, i know.

  • @Sulordan
    @Sulordan Před 3 lety

    Beautiful! I love the 83’s. I have a 1983 944 and for me the rattling/vibration at 4500 RPM was due to the previous owner having indexed the balance shafts 180* from where the should’ve been. You could feel it horribly through the shifter and all along the drivetrain. Once I did the belts and indexed it all properly, smooth as butter! Add an offset cam key while you’re in there. Now I just need engine mounts to fix the vibration at idle.
    Also you should check out F9tech. They rebuild the ecu/dme using a brand new circuit board! Beautiful stuff. That paired with the rogue tuning MAF kit and chip makes for a great bump in power and modernization. Have fun with it!

    I have a 84 944 and the timing belt can interfere when it's loose due to the cam and crank being closer together when the aluminum block and head are cold. I updated my car with the later model water pump and belt guard to solve the problem. That could be where the sound is coming from. I'd pop off the timing belt covers and see what you got. Clark's garage website saved my butt when I did the timing on my car! Hope this helps!
