- Casey Putsch finished his dream 1983 Porsche 944 that is white with white Fuchs wheels and the black interior with the old dash. Casey finds out if it will start and shows the new Pasha fabric seats and Martini and Rossi stripes. The car decides not to start from sitting too long and spoils the fun of hearing the new full exhaust system.

Casey is also building the King Zero V12 supercar instead of doing a commercial for Avalon King ceramic coating because commercials are lame! HAHAHAHA!!! But ceramic coating still freaking works, so that's why he actually uses it in real life!

"That's too much work" - says the man who is coach building a car from scratch
Hey Casey, the KW V3s are made to use with the torsion bars left on the car. The rear spring rates are not meant to be used on their own. You are supposed to index the bars a bit lower to allow the KWs to work properly. Otherwise you are probably going to find the rears a bit soft. Also it's a good idea to get a longer lower bolt for the rear shock, the factory shock is narrower at the bottom and therefore the shorter bolt doesn't engage into the trailing arm threads as much. Hope that helps!
Since you're always talking about inspiring young people I thought I'd share my experience. I'm 23 and newly married. Your 944 videos inspired me to buy a very cheap and very broken 86' 944 last summer. It took me around 6 months of fixing one thing and finding another problem, but its finally driveable. Thanks for the videos, your rock!
Sweet! Now who wants to drive in the snow?
Took my Lotus in the snow :)
Me inn norway...
Send help
Any car can be a drift car in enough snow.
@@FUNKOfilms who said it had to be a car? no seriously I seen a tank drift in the snow and ice.
One day you'll get home and she'll be wearing a t-shirt that says... "oh i watch the videos"... hehe
Oh if that happens we MUST have video LOL.
Only a man who really knows about automotive industry history can speak about the Auto Union Streamliners. Everyday you show more and more that you are the real deal, a true car lover (and one hell of an entertainer).
Congrats, man.
Thanks man!
Just when you thought it was safe, he quotes Igor in Young Frankenstein. “Walk this way, c’mon c’mon you can do it”
Love it! You just did the exact opposite of every other CZcamsrs out there and made your car look bad. That means, their value will stay just where it is! Superb! I'll be able to afford another one! Oh, your "noise" at ~4K RPM, could be the balance shaft, lower or upper, or the balance shaft belt tensioner. Wild guess without seeing the car, but mine was the tensioner at just a touch under 4K RPM. Let's hope it's a simple fix for you, with your motor history. Take Care!
1983s came with forged pistons, the noise you were talking about is probably piston slap
second this.
My 83 does this too and never realized it could be related to the pistons being forged. Learn something new, good stuff
Love the Martini stripes!
(Now I want a drink. Gin, of course. Shaken, with three olives.)
Casey, I had the same noise on several older (80's) Subarus, which were famous for it. The seals on the hydraulic lifters age, and the oil leaks out of them after shutdown when the engine is hot. Then when you start up cold, it takes a while before the cold oil can get forced through the tiny orifices and pump the lifters back up, which means heinous valve lash until the oil warms up.
I'm pretty sure the 944 also has hydraulic lifters, so might be something to look at.
Hey, I just bought one of those Subarus!
I can confirm! I have seen this before and at first it was not easy to figure out...
Regarding the redone seating position that annoys you, don't fret, the foam has a period of time until it settles down a bit. I redid the seats on my oldest car, a Fiat, and i absolutely hated them. The guy who remade them told me to have patience, because making them to old spec, would've dropped them further down. And he was right. Mine took about a year of ... off and on use. Your mileage may vary (as the saying goes).
well it sounded awesome for those 5 seconds lol
love the new intro!
To be fair, that's a pretty maddening pattern to stare at and redo right for possibly hours on end 😂
That paint and wheels combination is aesthetic as hell
If you're modding the car for better suspension, that means you'll be in there extensively (or as much as it requires, regardless, behind the wheels), IMO, you should upgrade the braking system from "master cylinder to pads". I KNOW, massive overhaul, but it's worth it. As much as i love these in stock trim, the brakes aren't exactly keeping up with modern times.
PS digging the strips. Been a while since i saw one with these. For some reason, the poshies find them ghastly, ... yeah, i know.
Hey yo Casey, while having the gauges out, just do a quick flat glass for the gauges, in polymer, easy stuff (a bit long and frustrating, but unlike dropping the rear axle) I got no sunglare at all, and even have a saratoga sunroof
Looks amazing!! I’m excited for future vids!!
Pasha belongs in a 944 because it is madness! A Porsche that makes sense for everyone!
Woah! Love the new intro yeeeesssss!
yet again, i'm loving he new intro man, as all you content, this was one of my favorite cars back when i was playing nfs porche unleashed, really cool
Nice work! Love my 944 Turbo - 1986.
Those seats are aweeessommmmeeee!!!!
The stripes and the seats look awesome. Makes me want another 944.
Remember at the end of gone in 60 seconds when the shelby Kip bought Memphis died and wouldn't start and Memphis is like "Don't do this to me" ?
Yeah that's about how this video ended too. 🤣🤣🤣
I love this 944 - it's perfect!!
It's not the 944s fault that you don't keep it on a trickle charger! I had a 84 944! Miss it! Was a great car!
Hell im never this early. 944 looks good! Looking forward to more of it!
they're awesome!
With out a doubt the funniest thing I’ve ever seen.
I’m sorry to say that I just found your channel. This is really cool! Thanks for sharing, I think I’ll stick around for a while :)
Why are you so dig Casey lol , I find it funny great yt content for real 😂😂
944 is my favorite retro Porsche.
Love it I'm digging it
Damn you. Now I have to get one of those watches. Love it
New intro is brilliant 👏
Great video! I hope this Porsche is more dependable then my 1972 MGB, I had that thing for 4 years back in 1970,s. It was always something! I would get another one if I won the lottery
Beautiful! I love the 83’s. I have a 1983 944 and for me the rattling/vibration at 4500 RPM was due to the previous owner having indexed the balance shafts 180* from where the should’ve been. You could feel it horribly through the shifter and all along the drivetrain. Once I did the belts and indexed it all properly, smooth as butter! Add an offset cam key while you’re in there. Now I just need engine mounts to fix the vibration at idle.
Also you should check out F9tech. They rebuild the ecu/dme using a brand new circuit board! Beautiful stuff. That paired with the rogue tuning MAF kit and chip makes for a great bump in power and modernization. Have fun with it!
You took the car from the 80’s back to the 70’s with those seats. ;)
Love these 944s
You rule sir!!!
Can’t wait to hear the start up. What exhaust system is this? Hoping to pick up a 944 soon
My dad had a 928 with the Pasha interior...I think matching the seats to the stripes wouldve been cool... love the 944
Your videos are fun to watch man keep it up! I have a 88 944 and agree with the sarcastic reliable comment haha!
And you might have to invest in a nice jump pack ;)
Bout to start working on my 1984 944 and im so excited to get it on the road. Might replace my 1984 C10 as a daily driver
I have the same exhaust on mine. I love it! Had it 6 years now.
What exhaust system is this? I missed it if it was mentioned in the video. Just picked up my 944S and looking at upgrading the exhaust.
Upon further stalking of your 944 timing videos, it appears you already know about the updated water pump...🙂
Watched this and decided to start my 944 for the first time in about a month, used my battery disconnect so it turned on after barely cranking once. The wonders of a replacing ur faulty alternator am I right?
Hey Casey, I actually did the same thing with late coilovers on an early car, I extended the bottom bolt holes on the front and I shaved 2mm off of the spindles, it only took a couple of hours
I had a 944, it was pretty good in the snow.
I miss the viper in the intro! Great work Casey!
Sticky valve? a little antifreeze in the oil, drive for 60 miles and then change the oil. Might clean the stiick/tick
I totally like 924 over 944. It is smooth and skinny... Some reminds of 60s flavor... That makes me even more of the Porsche hipster i guess haha.... Still i love your 944. Great job
Now this is real car building, shit don't work sometimes lmaooo. Great video
Love those cars
Smooooooooooth
Also, please just buy a Noco jump start pack. Can even charge them from a USB port and they're super portable.
I'm very favorably impressed with mine. Seconded. :)
I thought we fans ought to get together and buy him one. Someone organize it and I'll gladly chip in.
Spoke to a gentleman at Auto Zone today who was driving a 944. Come to find out he's business for the oastv12 years is buying, repairing and selling 944's. Said most if the ones he gets don't run. He drives them for about a month on e they're running before he sells them. Needle to say it is his favorite car.
Love the Mel Brooks reference.
Your white 944 - thats my most favorite of all your cars
Ugh, batteries are the worst sometimes. Both the cars I got last year had rust I had to clean up thanks to batteries that leaked while sitting. Also gotta admit you're stepping on my toes with the mockery on the Porsche script seats. I get your point but it gives me so much teen nostalgia when I see it.
This inspired me to get martini strap for my white dial Poljot chronograph
75% of Casey's videos I've watched involve him jumping a car 😂😂
I have a 84 944 and the timing belt can interfere when it's loose due to the cam and crank being closer together when the aluminum block and head are cold. I updated my car with the later model water pump and belt guard to solve the problem. That could be where the sound is coming from. I'd pop off the timing belt covers and see what you got. Clark's garage website saved my butt when I did the timing on my car! Hope this helps!
I’m still laughing at the analogy 😂
Someone get Casey a jumper box for Christmas lol
I just started taking my dream 944 apart... and my daily needs some work.
Wierd noise you describe that goes away with a little engine heat could be the timing belt hitting the cover. Mine did that before replacing the belt. The tension was off just a tiny bit. No resistance on the idler when cold.
Drove a Ford Focus. Can confirm, have multiple jumper cables
Ahhh yes, Casey Putsch the guy who recons he will drive the Indy 500😂😂
I just did the center tach mod on my 944. Took at least thirty cuss words getting the speedo cable to reach.
same... that fucking speedo cable... now I got bounce
You might want to get a battery charger that doubles as a jump box since you seem to have a few cars 🚘😁😁
You know you drive a hooptie car when you have a spare battery in back with the jumper cables. Reminds me of working on cars with my older brother. 👍
About the vibration u got at around 4k rps might be caused by incorectly timed timing belts, had a similar problem with my 944 S2 and thats how Porsche fixed it (and explained it to me)
Greetings from Germany ;)
You can install Super Beetle off-road torsion bars and it took me an afternoon to do and index properly the first time.
Nice Car ,only Thing i dont like are the white Fuchs's,they should bei black for my Opinion. The Pascha Interieur ist great, mine has it too, love it ..Greetings from a 944 1983 Targa Driver from Austria🙋.
For the lighting you should do some Baja designs lights! I have some and they’re amazing!
You should thank Ohio for having its license plate colors match your new stripes. Damn, I love those stripes!
Great idea about the gauges, btw
I've got an '88 turbo. maybe it's not applicable . But, when it's cold, I get a scrubbing/ brushing sound. I think it might be the fan shroud. Goes away once warm. Also that vibration at a certain Rpm. And, just last night. My passenger window regulator died. Always something
Love 944s, but IMO 924s look so much more elegant. And if you can find a decent 924S (a 944 in a 924 body), all the better. Love your channel, BTW.
Check the Balance Shaft, my 85 944 was like that in the winter
Great project! ... Great part of modding a car to make it your own is you can do whatever you want. Totally with what you're doing .... until the Rallye lights idea. Just not my thing. But if you like the look; go for it! Hey ... check out Project Farm's review/comparison of jump boxes.
"Igor!"
"No it's pronounced Eye-gore"
I cant believe I almost forgot about that movie lmaooo
I just bought new rims for my 944 I swear I need the dust cover for the brakes I hate having to clean the rims almost every day 😂
Quality Twitch content there Casey!
I'm not going to laugh at you on the battery issue. But... I like those wire-in smart charger/maintainers ;-)
Hi, Casey the clacking sound when is cold is the injectors, are so big an very cold!!!!
A good guess is balance shaft timing.
IT'S PORSHEEE IT'S PORSHAAA fresh prince of bel-air 🤣
"do the thing..."
.....
too funny
I like the phone dails..my amazing Guards red wet sanded to perfection 83 a Euro version from Canada came with 2002 911 rims but..it had something I've never seen on a 944..these really cool rock guards making the already big rear quarters look even bigger..and rule number one in old german cars...don't fck it up
Piston slap?
my job as a service runner at a euro car dealer, besides driving around cool cars, is cleaning brake dust off them lmao
Think the noise and vibration could be piston slap?
Now that You swap the torsion bar for coil overs, have You compared their weight? I think they add to the unbalanced mass.
You mean unsprung?
What kinda of clutch do you have in there? A say on JRGo the switch the standard clutch to something else.
“The best mechanics don’t have jumper cables.” 🤣🤣🤣
I keep jumpers cables in all my cars because I’m a sh**y mechanic 🤣
I keep cables a tow rope and a basic socket set in my car for getting free stuff from the dump off RVs and scrap cars and when u live in Canada u gotta be prepared for -35 weather and getting stuck.
I have a choice of an 87 944 or a 02 Booster 2.5l...not sure which one I should buy. And I have until Saturday to decide
My guess with the vibration is possibly motor mount. They are hydraulic filled and pretty notorious on these cars.
And it’s looking great man 👍
could the pistons be smaller when they're cold so they rattle in the cylinders?
I'm not a fan of the 911 either 👍 would much rather have a 944
I have jumpers cables in my 944 since I bought it. but only used it once, to rescue a toyota camry...
