I am actually from Guiyang! Living in London now - still in endless lockdowns here :( I am also a minority - Tujia. My mom is Miao & my dad is Tujia. Let me explain what the 'Golden Spider' is - actually it's '筑' - an instrument usually used by Dong & Miao. Guiyang was called "筑城 ZhuCheng" in the past, it means 'The City of Zhu', "筑"(Zhu) is an ancient minority instrument originally from Guiyang. That massive square in your video is called '筑城广场' (ZhuCheng Square)I really miss the hometown, especially Huaxi Beef Noodles and ChangWang noodles. Btw '老干妈'(LaoGanMa) chilli sauce is from Guiyang!

Hey Jason, I wasn’t surprised when Jiao said the ‘golden spider’ is a musical instrument of the local ethnic people, however, you totally surprised me when you asked; “布依 or 苗”. It appears you probably know more than you show.
FYI, the instrument is call 芦笙,mostly used by 苗,瑶 and 侗 minorities.
Also, the first time when I visited Guiyang in 2002, NanMing river was very polluted and stink, a lot of garbage littered along its banks, but now the water appeared to be very clean and the garbage disappeared. I’m sure it’s a result of government’s anti-pollution campaign and the increased awareness about the importance of environment from Guiyang’s residents. 贵阳加油!

@粒子与波 the kids are upwards of around 11/12 to 17/18 years of age because they are not hold for long in jail in Ireland before released back into the custody of their parents. Where i used to work 40min walk from my house there were kids just standing outside the shops dealing or supplying users with drugs. We used to have an underground tunnel system that connected to 4 or 5 of the different neighbourhood's and brouht people closer to the town centre where all the shops were. We had to get rid of it 25 years ago because of the amount of people who were being hassled/attacked in them. So if you think a little tunnel like that wouldn't be full of kids by 6pm hasseling or ganging up on the elderly or anyone else then oooh boy do you live in a quiet town. I walk passed these scumbag kinds of kids-adults every day when i walk my dog in the afternoons~evenings. I have walked past deals going down 2 mins outsode my own house. I have been asked by someone if i was waiting on the local dealers while i was walking my dog at 10am just because i was standing by a wall waiting on my dog to catch up to me. So i know damn well what would happen if dublin had any tunnels like that in the city centre. Sure we also can't walk along our quayside on a sunny day without bumping in to someone who is either high, drunk or both.

About why the city name is Gui Yang. In Chinese language, Yang can mean the south side of a mountain or the north side of a river. The reason is that China is on the northern part of the earth. The south part of mountain can be directed shined by the sun so that it is called Yang. While the north side of the mountain is called Yin. So Gui Yang means it is at the south side of a mountain called Mountain Gui.

    2:46 贵阳,意思是“贵山之阳”。很多中国城市以所处山、水的向阴向阳面来取名(这是一种古老的城市命名方式)。
