By this time next year I'm hoping for a Kill Count for "Violent Night". I know it's more of an action film than horror, but it features Santa Claus saving a family from evil mercenaries, and racks up an INCREDIBLE body count while he and the rest of the family he's trying to save does it.

Gremlins is actually a really scary kids movie and despite the terrifying small mischievous monsters it still has some really heartwarming moments

FUN FACT: The old man who keeps Gizmo is played by Keye Luke, one of the first Chinese-Americans to make it huge in the Entertainment Industry. He starred in a lot of film and television roles, he helped found the Screen Actor's Guild, and he painted the murals in Grauman's Chinese Theater in Hollywood. Pretty impressive resume, if you ask me.

I have a Gizmo Mogwai (that sings) that my dad brought home a few months ago when his friend John said “anyone want this”. Obviously didn’t know how much their worth lol. Very strange as I was looking for a Mogwai less than 2 weeks before that.
I think it's very fitting that Kingston Falls has a "town built on a backlot" look if you consider Gremlins to be a throwback/homage to the creature features of the 50s and 60s, only with modern technology for the effects. Remember, Joe Dante got his start with Roger Corman; Gremlins isn't that far in tone from the kind of movies Corman was known for back in the day.

I saw it in the theaters. I was 8 and thank goodness for the MPAA not inventing PG-13 yet! My mom took me and my brother and to this day she comments on how messed up that film was for children.

What amazed me about this movie was how the bad Gremlins knew how to drive and use all the gadgets and electronics, they even knew what a pool was! Even as a child, that baffled me.

I watched gremlins again for the first time in several years on Christmas Day, and I honestly freaked out over the fact that Howie Mandel was Gizmo XD
This has always been one of my favorite movies since I was a kid and watched it with my great grandmother on Christmas. I’ve seen it so many times it’s almost silly but it never gets old for me and always feels like grandma and I are hangin out again
Chris Columbus is like the king of Christmas Holiday movies. Gremlins, Home Alone, Home Alone 2, Christmas With The Kranks, and The Christmas Chronicles 2 were all helmed by the director. Not to mention Harry Potter is sort of an honorary Christmas movie.

Chris Columbus almost directed National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. But he went to dinner with Chevy Chase to discuss how he was going to direct. They didn't get along but a producer asked him to try again and 2nd Dinner was just as bad so that was that.

The YMCA sequence left me dying from laughter. It was my favorite moment of this entire Kill Count (although the monologue leading up to To The Numbers is close for my favorite moment of this Kill Count).

i’m finally facing my fear after 22 years of being terrified of this film and i’ve avoided it since being a kid. i have watched all sorts of horror films and not felt anything but damn this little guys scare the shit out of me.

There's a special place in my horror loving heart for this movie. When I was younger my Nona took me and my brother to see it at an outdoor cinema. It was one of the last times I got to spend time with my Nona, she died from cancer the next year. I still have the Gizmo plush she gave me on the day.

This movie is one of my favorite movies ever and I really love this movie. The effects are great in this movie and love how each of the gremlins have each personality to them. Gizmo is the best thing ever and so iconic.
This movie actually has some deep themes into it as well and it was done pretty well.
Really crazy Jonathan banks aka Mike Ehrmantraut himself is in this movie.
Btw the dragon breath joke is actually pretty creative how they did it. And like how James is dressed like Rand.

I've been waiting so long for the Gremlins, It's such a good movie and is what I grew up with especially with my parents being so old.
I remember watching it for the first time thinking it would be just a standard fantasy movie. Boy was I wrong, It was actually one of the best movies of all time.

The ending monologue was absolutely gold. Also loved the reference to multiversus.
You mentioned Frank Welker voicing the Gremlins but I’m surprised you didn’t mention Michael Winslow aka Larvell Jones from Police Academy who also voiced some of the Gremlins. That guy is mad talented

Yo man, my parents took me to the theater when this came out as small kid and it scared the shit out of me. The fact the gremlins made the same sound as a irritated cat didn’t help. As I got older i started loving the movie because the practical effects are great even if you can see the wires from time to time😅

I am of the firm belief that just because a movie takes place on Christmas, doesn't make it a Christmas movie. You can set a story at anytime of the year to serve all kinds of narrative purposes. I feel like a Christmas movie needs to specifically be about Christmas
There were 3 specific rules for taking care of a mogwai- no bright light, no getting it wet, and no feeding it after midnight. Had they listened, Kingston Falls wouldn't have been taken over or destroyed.

Effects in the Gremlins movies were amazing. Some of the most believable movie monsters ever. The Stripe death scene in particular was chef's kiss. That stayed with me for a long time.
Glad you gave a bit of props to Kathleen Kennedy. I'm ILM alumni, people can say what they will about Kathleen in the present but her contributions to film is unparalleled.

My mom bought me this movie when I was around 8 years old for Easter and I didn’t know what it was and I remember watching it then proceeding to keep rewatching it for the next week. Since then Gremlins has been banned in our house.
