Harvesting what you need, and filming, watching and respecting those you don't need. Using every part of them. Picking up your spent shells. You might have thought you were recording a short video, but you packed so many important life lessons in there. "I don't feel like I deserve a place this beautiful." You two embody that place! It was lucky to have you!
Totally agree with everything you said!
Yes, this comment!!
Best part: picking up your spent hulls. Your never going to be 100% on it but having the respect to do it is amazing.
@@soonerfrac4611 That tells you so much about a person!!
@@lisagrafton2529 Hello Lisa how are you doing today.
Best part for me? Arielle picking up the spent shells. OUTSTANDING!!!!! Beautiful as always.
I noticed that too and smiled :):)
I'd be offended but since you're a potato I'm happily tickled.
@@redlanternhomesteadcathym105 LMAO.
i was impressed with her picking up her spent shell casings too... awesome !!!
Leave no trace….👍
I sure hope you two realize how much we appreciate the effort you put into bringing us the variety of spice you put in our lives.
Thank you Zimtt 😁
Well said, couldn't agree more.
Agree!
Today is February 13,2024 😊
Love the 2 of U ❤
I LOVED this episode from beginning to end...you two are getting better and better. Your hunting skills [I cannot imagine the magic of seeing the "invisible" birds suddenly appear.] your never boring menus, and your editing seem to improve from episode to episode!
I think you should approach the Alaska Tourism Board and offer to do "Off the beaten track" videos/ideas for tourists...or still photos for their tourist brochures.
Ahh….made tea and put my slippers on. Time for Eric and Ariel to transport me from the NJ shore to AK!
I love how Eric laughed when Arielle said they "Definitely" arent hard core... also like how you share the meals you guys DONT prepare, letting us know your opinions on brands and flavors. Great video. Yes they are beautiful birds. I am so happy you take the time to watch the birds and enjoy them, alive as well as for food. I am always impressed by your respect for nature.
Their brand is Mother Nature lol they don’t eat store bought food except flour
Hello Gloria how are you doing today.
@@chad8251 I think she was talking about those freeze dried meals they tried.
Eric and Arielle are beautiful souls and I hope to be like them one day
@@chad8251 and a few other things. They made a video about what they buy from town
Having a relationship with the food we eat is what majority of us have lost and only a few lucky ones still have it.
Woke up, coffee made, sit down in the couch, turn on youtube and see a new video. Not a bad way to start the day.
Exceptional footage of the birds!!!
These intro shots were phenomenal I can see how both of you are personalizing the videos in such genuine beautiful ways! Thank you as always ✨✨
Closing shots also excellent today.
Hello Julia how are you doing today.
What a beautiful bird, part of God’s magnificent creation.
Hello Susie how are you doing today.
@@ruthiemay423 Hello Ruthie how are you doing today.
Here's a notable observation. I follow several homestead, farm and families trying to live off the land and without a doubt you guys are the most successful. They have large land areas, but when it comes to growing and catching your own food, you guys in a harsher climate are #1.
I love how you guys take the time to appreciate all around you, to show us viewers how much you truly respect your lifestyle. The small details like picking up spent shotgun shells and not leaving them truly shoes how much respect and appreciation you both have. Thanks and loved this episode!
"This could use a flour tortilla"
"And some Ptarmigan"
Priceless!
Hello Ann how are you doing today.
I'm glad to see you use what you hunt. If I was 50 years younger and braver I would love to experience what you are doing. Hard work but so rewarding.
What fun, harvesting some birds that end in good eats and exercise.
I’m so grateful for how you conscientiously use everything. Hunting, fishing, and foraging, are such impressive- hard working skills. You show the best of what “we” can be!
You are so blessed to live the lifestyle you love in such a beautiful and bountiful land. How I wish I was young and in good health. I would probably be there too. Thank you so much for sharing you lives with us.
There are a few Channels that I like all their content so I like it first thing. This help me to reward those that deserve it
Red wine in mason jar.. that’s retro 👍🏻
Thank you so much for sharing your story, it will be the only way I'll ever see Alaska! I'm enjoying the experience you both have! Have a Merry Christmas 🎅 🎄 and enjoy your holiday season!
Hello Maria
Is Eric a chef or been a lead cook in a high end restaurant????? You can just see he has experience when he cooks....you're great too Ariel! Especially love your baking!
I think he was a Truck driver, they told us their former jobs in an early episode
I have noticed over many episodes that he has great knife skills, drops his spices from his fingers and plates food beautifully. I wondered too if he has a culinary training background 🤔👍🤗
You can learn a lot about what people have done or what they have experience doing from the t-shirts they wear. Reiff Electric shows up pretty often. He also clearly has some experience welding. He's not a dummy.
@@michaelrichard5554, yes, I noticed he's got lots of skills, including electrical...
@@amyhoffman5839 Yep. Eric seems to be pretty handy. Arielle complements him nicely.
I love giblets - heart, gizzard - yum! Little nuggets of deliciousness.
I don't think any of your followers believe you two are not hardcore, hunters, gatherers, caretakers. Thanks for another great video.
Good on you for braving the wicked cold we've had this week. A REALLY appreciate how your video brings out how lovely the skies get in the bitter cold which has always been one of my favorite part of living in Alaska!!
(っ◔◡◔)っ ♥ *_"I honestly don't feel deserving of such a beautiful day.."_* .. and then hunt in below zero weather...! WOW! What a lady!
Arielle, if YOU don't deserve your blessings, no one does! ♥
@RonRay I agree wholeheartedly. 😊💯
was such an amazing quote.
I know it's cold. But if you don't hunt you don't eat. If you don't eat you get sick. If you get sick you won't be able to keep making these great videos 😁Love you guys 🤗
Opens with some more breathtaking aerials from Arielle. Does the hot coffee defrost mustache hair? One thing I’ll never understand is how you both take such care in your garden, naturally preserve your fresh food, and prepare some really interesting fresh game…..yet can get so excited by a packaged meal made 20 years ago with some sketchy preservatives.
Absolutely stunning scenery and beautiful birds! The meal looked incredible and yummy!
Thank you for picking up your empty shells
Grateful also for you two sharing your day hunting, processing, cooking and enjoying your bounty. It all looked awesome from the snow filled hills to the finished product on the table!!
the makings of a new pillow too! heehee
Everybody shut-up! My show is on😁
Ahahahaha!! I agree!!
🤣🤣😅 👏👏
LOL, I told my beloved husband his lunch would be 30 minutes late. I had to watch Eric and Arielle and read the comments.
He looked at me with great disdain. LOL, he'll get over it.😁
@@peacefulwife5199 Hilarious!! I could watch them all day!! Whenever I can't sleep, I don't mind, because it's free time to watch Eric & Arielle! 💞
I can’t even imagine how hard your way of life is, but you guys literally light up doing what you love. I had plans to move to,Alaska have a few acres some chickens me n the dogs. I unfortunately developed a rare heat issue (I’m only 40) Now I don’t think I can do the wood chopping, hauling and shoveling. Crushed my dreams 💔💔
I could maybe survive okay in western WA, but AK would task my physical limits. But it's okay; those that can do, and those that cannot get to watch a pair of fantastic CZcamsrs sharing their lives!
Let me guess
Did you get the jab?
@@maria369 I most certainly did, as with the heart condition Cov would kill me. I lost 2 cousins and a friend. My heart condition is called Cardiomyopathy
The video quality is amazing! It's like watching something on Discovery channel! Such beautiful birds. Didn't expect the meat to be so red and bloody. Almost like beef! The food chain continues. God gave man authority over every animal!
you are so blessed
You guys are my ticket to Alaska, up close and personal. I love how we see the cleaning process and the seasoning, and of course the great meal at the end. The whole experience of the trip, it felt like I went with you. Awesome once again, every time you two make a meal, my mouth is watering. That Eric is quite the cook. Staying tuned in from Michigan.
Love you two lower 48 is on the brink of turmoil and your putting out these type vids thank you
Thanks for talking us along and sharing the beauty.
I have learned so much about wildlife and nature from you two. Thank you so much.
Just beautiful--the scenery, the birds and, as always, the dinner. Thank you for sharing.
Hello Sherrie how are you doing today.
A winter wonderland with white birds OH MY GOSH ‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️WHAT an unbelievable experience you took us on. THANKYOU Eric & Arielle 👏👏👏👏👏👏that was a beyond beautiful experience ❤ no wonder you love Alaska ❤ Love & blessings from Nan Down Under aka Australia 🇭🇲🤗💞🙏I just watched Jim & Tori Baird with Wesley do their holiday into the snow in the Yukon and guess what they introduced me to ??? Yep, exactly the same birds you were hunting. Never heard of them before , now twice in 3days , amazing !!!!!!!
Hello Heather how are you doing today.
You'll eat better than we do in the 48. And it's all from your own labor. I'm in awe of you two.
Had been looking forward to a new video. Love you guys! Stay safe! ❤️
Beautiful little birds, what a fantastic experience.
Hello Helen how are you doing today.
So BEAUTIFUL, everytime you go out you always make me feel that I'm right there.
Thank You so much for taking me alone.
Every time I watch your videos I realize that life is still beautiful. What a blessed life you both have!
Alaska is God's Country. So beautiful.
Hi Finest
Immediate "like" on the video! Brightens my day when I see you guys upload, always fantastic quality, interesting subjects. What a fascinating life, thanks for sharing with us!
Edit: What amazing footage you got of these birds! You're right, they're gorgeous! Really enjoyed how you had a lot of fun hunting them, used everything, but we're still able to set up and have lunch next to them even under your limit. Peaceful coexistence!
Amen, Redsamme!!
It felt like an honor to be able to be around them and observe how behaved, they really are magnificent little birds 💙 thank you for watching!
@@SimpleLivingAlaska I gotta ask, are one of you part 107?
That intro shot is on point.
Arielle’s hat is too cute. Thanks for the video.
Has to be 1 of my favorite videos y’all have put out. Thanks.
Hello Julie how are you doing today.
That was amazing thank you for taking me along in your trip ❣️
The music that you choose for the drone and other scenery is inspired.
Thank you for the teaching commentary on the birds. Like the bee info too.
Love watching you Iive your simple Alaska life. Thank you!
Hello Cindi how are you doing today.
I appreciated that even though you could have taken 20 birds, you did not. There is no reason to take more than you need. You got a good meal with some and I assume you put the others in the freezer.
Hello Kathy how are you doing today.
Awesome video. Processing the birds was cool
I so enjoy all your videos..they are all good. I have not missed one of your videos and they are all first class. You are amongst the few youtubers that put out such classy videos, good stories of everyday living and adventures and sometimes lots of work. One of the few places to let kids watch and learn because you keep it clean and educational. Thank you so much. You are more appreciated than you can imagine. I do think this is your calling in life. Can you imagine what you and all of us would have missed if you had dismissed this urge to move to Alaska. Joan
Hello Joan how are you doing today.
My BIL gave my dad a Savage rifle in 17HMR about 12 years ago. He and dad went to the range and set up at 200yards. Dad was 85 and beginning to show signs of Parkinson's. None the less, he clover leafed 3 shots on the target. (dad won many many titles, mostly in pistol shooting , many moons ago. Sister was there and verified the feat. She had the target framed.
Point being, I think you'll really love the 17HMR. I've heard many others comment on their incredible accuracy.
Happy Friday y’all!! Excited for another video👍🏽
you guys are fantastic ... Arielle picking up the spent shells keeps it a wild place for the next person.
The frosted mustache look really suits Eric.
Thankyou for the great adventures, your program keeps getting better and better.if you don’t subscribe you’re missing out.cheers all.
This video made my day.thanks guys
Really enjoyed your adventure. Man, that was deep snow and those are the most beautiful birds. Stunning scenery. 👍🥰❤️
Hello Kathryn how are you doing today.
Love how you mix up the the need for food with love of your home.👌
You guys are a true national treasure! It reflects not only in your videos and sharing your lives but as well in the outstanding and amazing community you two have gathered around your videos! Stay blessed and happy holidays
17:11 I took a screenshot of this incredible shot to save in my photos and was thinking what a beautiful Christmas card it would be. Awesome video, Arielle and Eric. Merry Christmas to you both! XOjennyinseattle
Good day to you both from Sydney, Australia. I've just subscribed, recommended but Mitchells in Alaska. Those birds were so cute. I can't imagine doing what you guys are doing. But - it is living off the land literally- where you live. Amazing how nature provides for us, seasonally. Those ptarmigans are rich in protein & fat which the residents in the area need for winter! Loved watching you hunt, clean, cook & eat. 👌👏 working together ❤️
Arielle with the vegetables (veggies for short here Downunder). I soak them in water for a while & scrub them with a brush. Cook them skin & all, in pieces & seasoned like you did. Not only no wastage but the crispy skin is just delish. I do the same with pumpkins - skin & insides, just top & tail them. The seeds when cooked tastes nutty. Good ruffage! Just thought sharing that tip with you. 😃
The heart and liver of any animal is a treat. Spectacular video.
Growing up my Greek neighbours used to give us fish roe called Bottarga. They use the whole fish roe not just the eggs. I loved it.
🤘🏻😎🤘🏻
Awesome stuff guys
I get so excited when you guys upload a video. Thanks for sharing your life with us. Merry Christmas.

Hello Kim how are you doing today.
So beautiful there. Can see why you love it. Thank you for sharing
I saw my first comment for 3 seconds then it disappeared. Ill try this one.
I had to develop a spice mix when i was in chef school (cia). 3scoops salt. 3 scoops black pepper. 3 scoops gnd garlic. 2 scoops thyme, leaves or gnd. 2 scoops powdered mustard. 2 scoops dill leaves. 2 scoops celery seed. 1 scoop crushed red pepper. Like you put on pizza. It doesn't matter what size scoop. The bigger the scoop the bigger the yield. I call it Magic Spice cause it works on most things ... Like magic. Enjoy.
Beautiful place, good Christmas and a happy New year to you to and the dogs, and cat, here from Danmark 🙂🌲
Beautiful mountain shots. Those birds blend into the snow magnificently! Also congrats on your blueberry wine batch. Cheers.
Those fathers were so beautiful hopefully you can repurpose them and do some type of decoration with them maybe a wreath♥️
We all out here go back and forth between being jealous of your two and then grateful that you are being so blessed - today I am just happy for your blessings. See ya, Bob in Nevada
Thank you for a fantastic video, outstanding videography. Love the compositions. All the best for the festive season! Annie
Hello Annie how are you doing today.
Boy, those sure do look good. I use to get a lot of grouse, and 20g is the best way. However you got to make sure you don't crack a tooth as those pellets are in the meat and difficult to get all of them out.
enjoy. what an amazing bird and an exciting hunt
Meal looks delicious enjoy

Eric's frozen moustache brought back great Alaskan memories. I could feel the cold!! The shot gun is the way to go when hunting Ptarmigan. This video is a great way to end my Friday!
Everything looked so beautiful! Your roasted root vegetables would be awesome with a bit of warm goat cheese and a balsamic glaze. I started making started making soft cheeses at home since COVID. It's fun and easy. It would be especially easy most of the year for you guys. I make mozzarella (and smoked some), along with things like sour cream, cream cheese, goat cheese and creme fraiche, paneer, depending on what farm milk I have. YUM!
