    12:31 my main gripe with these abilities isn't so much the skill involved, more so how some of them fit in a combined arms shooter. They seem out of place, and the characters themselves as well are out of place. It's supposed to be 2 large armies from 2 different countries fighting (well in battlefield anyway) not two armies made up of the exact same set of characters who have these quirky personalities and quips, but rather generic military dudes not using wingsuits and bows.

Anytime i thought about someone making a new version of this game i always hoped that they would get this part right. Every fps ive played since bhd ive compared this aspect and non were as fun and satisfying as getting a kill in bhd. Black ops 2 was close, for sure. Also the character movements. Bhd characters had really nuanced controls where they were very agile and evasive, i loved that, it was a skill that if mastered would set you apart.

Capping the low ground is hard enough, but even if you do, then you got into the mountains where it's even harder. Both maps suffer from pigeon holeing with little opportunities for flanking or attacking the objective from altternate angles. Craked is literally just either run down the main road or cram yourself into an alleyway, both options usually lead to getting obliterated by the defenses LAV.

    also the flea market is something Tarkov had as well, so if you're interested in how that ended up working in practice once theres a larger playerbase and a full live service running, you might wanna look into that.

    overall, the game is fun. The Extraction Shooter for me is still very much a bit odd and I don't know what to make of it really. Gameplay is fun, gunplay, audio, mobility is all fun. However, the maps we have gotten have been a bit too small for my taste (though I'm mostly used to DMZ lately, after the whole EFT debacle). In short it's too early to say if it's going to be any good or not, but I think it has some great bones and has the potential to be something great if the developers listens to what the community wants

    Some great points but i have to disagree with the gear score match making and wanting MORE recoil.
    The risk of fighting much higher geared players is what makes extraction games fun. Its a challenge and leads to more ways to play than just shoot everything u see. You have to judge wether the gunfight is worth the risk.
    As for the recoil i think keeping everything realistic in the sense that the shoot where you put the dot then drop off and add visual recoil keeps keeps the game competitive and promotes higher skill players while also being accessible to lower skill players.

    Just discovered you a few days ago through JF. I'm excited to try this game out but I'm ngl, I'm one of those that is 'complaining' about the hero system. I'm open to it if done right but the thing I hated about BF2024 is that every hero or however the fck they call 'm, could take any gun.. medics taking ammo boxes, snipers taking medkits etc.. like wtf man. I've been playing BF since BF2 and it just doesn't feel like BF anymore and it breaks my heart. I haven't seen a lot of ganmeplay yet so could you please answer me this: There are heroes.. fine.. can they all take any gun with them? Or can they all take medkits, ammo etc? Do you have to level up each 'class' or is there just an overall leveling system? Great video man!

    • @GeekyPastimes
      @GeekyPastimes  Před měsícem +1

      No, each operator has a set of guns they can use, like in Rainbow Six Siege, they share some and have others that they can't use to balance them. Only the healer characters can take medic crates or ammo crates as far as I can tell, the engineers have the rocket launchers, the recons have the spawn beacon. You don't have to level up each class, but you do need to level up each weapon.
      Thanks for the kind words and welcome to the channel!

    Something that has always REALLY ground my gears is the reverse realism balance in video game guns. Devs completely ignore the advances in technology and training in favor of some weird imagination of what is "balanced".
    From a real world perspective.
    SMG: Superceeded in almost every context other than anti-civilian/criminal scenarios like private protection and SWAT teams. The caliber, penetration, and physical profile of the weapon has been replaced nearly ubiquitously by SBR's with intermediate cartridges like 5.56 and 5.45.
    AR: The primary arms choice of every military and increasing majority of law enforcement. Why? Because it is THE modern jack-of-all-trades weapon. Recoil even under full auto is easily controlled with proper stance and grip, effective range and accuracy is competitive with everything within unaided human sight range, there are builds that maximize effectiveness at either short range or long range, and they are incredibly customizable for a given task.
    Battle Rifle: Has all of the advantages of an AR with the tradeoff of weight and ammo capacity for increased power and range. These weapons rival the old DMR and Marksman rifle categories in terms of power and range, but can effectively be used in CQB and close contact scenarios like an AR. Sure, you can't fire full auto laser beams at the greater ranges but slowing down is simple and effective.
    Sniper Rifle: Deadly and accurate, these are special purpose weapons designed to push extremes in combat range. You might survive a body shot if you have excellent armor, but it will still put you on your ass and likely from so far away you wouldn't know from where the shot came without your battle buddies working together to figure it out. Not a "quick-scope killfeed" kind of weapon, but even then there are examples of "scout rifles" that are built around that very operational mindset.
    Shotgun: Terrible effectiveness against armor, but incredible effectiveness against flesh. Typically used in CQB situations like trenches and buildings, but can effectively reach out to the range of most engagements found in modern video games no problem. A ton of special use ammo types. A great secondary weapon for specific use cases.
    LMG: Heavy and powerful variant of the AR that sacrifices CQB potential for providing incredible support value for a squad of troops. Difficult to control unless mounted on terrain or lying prone, the whole point is power projection from a defensively advantageous firing position. Sure, most rounds fired are missed, but when 1-2 can be a kill it's enough to provide a tactical advantage for every ally using something lighter and closer ranged.
    From the video game balance master's perspective.
    SMG: The king of cool and meta master of tight spaces. Pistol cartridges somehow do more damage than intermediate or full-power rifle cartridges and at a faster rate. Also gives you roadrunner legs for some reason. Only recoil and some magic damage falloff past the distance of a large room can approach the pretense of balance. In some games, you will see one in every player's hands.
    AR: The 'meh' option for people who want to engage farther than an SMG and don't like sniping. Boring, but somewhat effective.
    Battle Rifle: YOU CANT HAVE RANGE, POWER, AND RPM, THAT'S AN OP PERFECT WEAPON! We have to make these impossible to control in full auto and abusively weak compared to sniper rifles. Honestly no one should pick these guns, but we'll put them in the game anyway.
    Sniper Rifle: The children are complaining about camping, lucky 1-shots, and not being able to fight back. Let's make the guns effective only against really stupid targets that stand still, run out in the open for far too long, and make it a gun only for the highest aim skill players out there. Oh and make it glow like a floodlight when they aim with it too. That's nothing like real snipers? Well we don't care because BALANCE, forget unique use cases.
    Shotgun: SOMETHING needs to compete with the SMG, we will just flip the damage per shot and damage per second numbers. Spread has got to be wild so that it can't be used outside of CQB. We can't be bothered to make actual armor mechanics so let's say one shot to the head, two shots to the body, and you have to stuff the barrel inside the target's character model to get that quick of a kill. Otherwise it will take the entire magazine. Can I get a clap on the back for inventing the close range sniper?
    LMG: It fires lots of bullets real fast? Let's make it weak, slow moving and aiming, and hard to control. What's an SMG? No we already have that category and they are the BEST.

      @murdurmuffin7872 Před měsícem

      @@GeekyPastimes Oh I whole heartedly agree... except for the last sentence. Before the era of never ending balance patches, FPS was about more than selling new gun skins and unlocking attachment trees. It was about perfecting the actual play. Counterstrike, Halo, OLD Call of Duty and more... they all had weapons with unique identity and 'realistically adhered' to their role. The fun, and challenge to climb, was the player's tactics and skill. Metas were situational depending on each combat encounter within a match, not dictated for the entire game a season or three at a time.
      The two main outliers in the FPS genre were the Sniper and Shotgun, primarily because devs at the time didn't have the best technology and techniques to represent them well. Remember playing the old Battlefields (3 and earlier). Remember playing classic Slayer at a LAN? There was plenty of fun to be had back when guns functioned as expected. And it had nothing to do with some, pardon me, imaginary Realism vs Fun axis. The attitude you describe, fun is 'challenging to get a kill' is exactly what has driven the widening skill gap among playerbases. It's been the advent of SBMM and 'pro-gaming' taking over the industry instead of being a hobby for everyone.

    My only gripe is the style aspect of the operators.
    Abilities are cool, ive always loved the realistic military setting being mixed with futurism to create stuff that slightly borders the hero shooter area. Like how soldiers in Advanced Warfare were superhuman thanks to their gadgets.
    What i dont like is that instead of a soldier with cool gadgets youre an operator, complete with quircky voicelines and all. I know they want something marketable, but dont they realise no one remembers a single COD operator besides the ones from the campaing like Price or Ghost, or that one girl with huge tits?
    My issue is healing someone and my character being like ''aww someone scraped their knee? ill patch you up buddy''. Even if you manage to make actual charming characters, its a huge game, having 30 of the same dude spouting the same lines is way worse than having a bunch of diverse but symilar looking soldiers.
    Otherwise this game is liteal god tier, best gunplay, practically best graphics, actually well optimised, a variety of gamemodes. NO SBMM thank all the gods for all eternity. Just the most refined variatio nof the cod/battlefield formula. Really looking forward to it

You could load into a raid with a bunch of geared out Chads and get dumped on or load into a game full of timmies, have the great gear, and come out on top. As for the progression concern, you're able to lose the gear just as easily as you found it, which adds to that unpredictability. I've had raids where I went in, scooped some amazing loot, put it on, load into the next and am dead within 30 seconds. That's the beauty of extraction shooters and systems that minimize that experience kind of detract from the whole thing imo. At that point, it's just a glorified battle royale.

Its not mindless you gotta approach things based on the individual scenarios. a gear score based match making would just destroy that entire premise of the genre and make any sort of engagement with real players completely boring and redundant. Nice review, this game is what BF2042 should have been(you nailed on this), it shows how badly managed EA is, the only thing I disagree on is the delay, I understand a game being delayed, but delayed indefinitely, that is fishy, to say the least, it already happened for XDefiant now this game(XDefiant disappeared for a year coming back without any progress, it even showed an update for people that played the closed alpha, and got delayed again, at release it was worse than what they showed when the first gameplay of the game was revealed), I hope the game world didn't get into heavy bribing(like Big Pharma or Politics), text not showing or things like that are not a huge deal, if compare it to how BF2042 or BFV state at release, for me the game in this state is fine, and the developers could fix it and update it as people play it on 3 platforms, something tells me and I predicted that for XDefiant, that we will never see this game after a year, god it's not that I hate COD, I think MW2019 and WZ1 was a masterpiece, it just that we're playing the same game for 5 years, and now that Microsoft bought ACTIVISION, if my theory is true we will be playing IW8 engine FPS games for 10 years, especially if the next BF is a fiasco(and there is a solid probability of that happening).
