  • I flew over to Nashville to help Ricky get his studio set up. This is a super basic setup that will total get the job done and is a great starting point. We wanted to show that recording drums at home isn't difficult and doesn't require much to get the job done!

      Buy some shitty earbuds at the dollar store, tape each ear to a drum, run them all into a 5-way splitter of something, run that into the shitty mic input on your laptop and record. No joke, my friend recorded an album like that with a bunch of yard sale trash instruments on a windows 95 pc running CoolEdit (old version of Adobe Audition) Suuuper lo-fi of course, but you can surprisingly get some usable enough sounds if your budget is really that tight, lol.

    • @dylanrobins
      @dylanrobins Před 5 lety +1

      Egg cartons don't do shit. Old towels work great though, possibly better than auralex. Something to keep in mind is that foam anf towels are too thin to do anything for bass frequencies, they only tame high end flutter. You might want to look into rockwool bass traps if you want to treat a room properly

      I actually don't use a bottom head on my floor tom (going for a more vintage sound). What I ended up figuring out later was placing the mic inside the drum instead of on top of the head is WAY better. Mic placement makes all the difference for that issue!

    Hi David, I have a question.
    I am 13, and a percussionist in band, as well as an enthusiastic musician in general. A few years a go I decided to buy my own drum set, however, being 11, I only decided on the crappy 260 dollar gammon one on Amazon. I loved it for a few years, however recently it's started to fall apart (which makes sense.) The kick drum pedal is screwed up, the hi hat isn't tall enough, all the heads are flimsy, and the cymbals sound like garbage. I've decided to upgrade it (at least a lil) so I decided on replacing all the heads (ambassador coated for snare beater side, ambassador hazy for snare snare side, and g2s for floor and Tom, as well as a new kick drum head, forget the name) Meinl hi hats and crash, sabian ride, new kick drum pedal, and gilbratar hi hat stand, as well as new cymbal stands for the assorted new cymbals, which comes out to about 500 dollars (Christmas money to the rescue!) Obviously I can't spend thousands on a pro kit at 13, but I at least wanted a little upgrade for the time being, so I thought this was a good fix. So my question(s) is, are there any things I should change before I order? Also should I get new resonant heads for the toms and kick? I was only going to get beater sides for those, so do they make a difference? Thanks. Also fellow commentators plz feel free to help as well I could use it

      Hello, I am also a drummer of similar age. I would personally wait and save for a new set. I got a Yamaha stage birch custom I believe it is called with some zildjian cymbals and pdp hardware after years of playing on a shitty electric. That was all for a bit over a grand. If I were you I would just hang tight and save since you’re practically half way there. Also, maybe this is just me, but when I play on other kick pedals it feels like shit. I invested in a DW5000 pedal and I love it. Hope that can help
