A flieger with a twist? A modern interpretation of a classic watch? Which box do you think this one fits into? I like it, solid, loads of nice touches, and on pre-order, well priced. The 'Interstellar' is the most obvious comparison for me, but much dressier, and quite a bit more expensive. Draken are really making some cracking stuff these days, and if you are a fan of the brand, you'll no doubt appreciate the upgrades. Cheers, Jody
Always love the Enterprise alarm.
Good looking watch to my eyes it gives off some Fortis vibes.
I wish the power reserve indicator had an extra mark in the middle. It would serve both as the midpoint of the power level and as the 6o’clock index. Picky? Yes. But cool watch. Thanks for the video, Jodie. 😊
Totally agree.
Also from the lume shot it looks like the white "full" index is lumed.
Put that small lumed index at the six and swap out the "power reserve full" white marker with a blue one that matches the second hand and it would look awesome.
Red - White - & Blue, perfect for a pilot watch.
Does need an on-the-fly clasp too to really lift the "tooly" utility (two too too many 2s in that sentence!) 🤣
@@karlost23 💯
Nice trick by Draken -- take the Miyota 9K series movement with the Power reserve at 12, and flip it to a destro configuration, thereby moving the complication to 6.
Case is VERY similar to my Citizen Nighthawk (the one with dual crowns at 3 and 8 o’clock). Even the bracelet and milled part of the clasp is close.
Love the look! Unfortunately, the crown position is a deal-breaker.
Why?
@Username.RandomNumbers Aesthetics, and the setting and winding issues Jody mentioned. Otherwise, it's a fantastic looking watch.
Also find the crown a deal-breaker. I’d absolutely buy one otherwise.
@@Ecoat65 The aesthetics thing I kind of get. It doesn't at all bother me but I've vetoed watches for minor aesthetic things.
The winding and setting thing makes no sense to me, though. I don't think I have ever wound or set a watch whilst it's on my wrist.
Is this something which other people often do?
@Username.RandomNumbers Well, I suppose with all of the watches out there at this price point, it would be just the tipping point to avoid this watch. If I had unlimited funds, I certainly would get this to add to my quirky watch part of a collection. It's just a personal thing I guess. Like having a date on the dial. I just don't like wearing a watch without at least the date.🤷🏼♂️
Nice but too thick and heavy. Could really work if thinner and in titanium.
You nailed it
Im wearing my Hamilton right now and cannot see it being replaced any time soon. Those aplied numerals have a finish on them that pop crazy like they have aircraft reflective tape on em. Classy lookn. Not a fan of the left hand crown yall
I really don't understand the need to make the case so tall (and make it heavy). It is just a 100m WR pilot watch.
Another thing that puzzled me is with the power reserve so nicely integrated, I don't think they need to rotate the movement anymore.
Love your James Hunt T-shirt!
And being wrong handed love this Draken's 9 o'clock crown as well.
Knowing the remaining run time gives you anxiety but not knowing doesn't worry you. Interesting! Nice watch.
Kudos for glow in the dark date & power reserve! If I had the spare beer tokens I'd seriously consider adding that to my collection.
You need to do a video of your shirt collection! Always have the coolest shirts, especially all your F1 gear.
That Hammy is on my “to-do” list, but I did like how they have shown Grand Seiko a way to use a power indicator without destroying the dial’s symmetry!!!
I may be in the minority but I appreciate the Draken spelled out on the side. I would buy one of these, if I did not already have a Type A and a Type B Flieger. If someone used a 1-3 watch collection, this would be an amazing part of it.
I have Hamilton Interstellar mentioned, and I have a Draken Tugela GMT. The Draken bracelets are just much better, and this one looks chunkier than the Hammie bracelet as well, probably adding to the weight. However, I love a weighty watch so no issue for me. The Tugela GMT also on the heavy side, right in the sweetspot for me.
I honestly thought at first glance it looked like a 38mm! I was surprised when you said 42. I can get used to the crown, power reserve, YES! I am so tempted to get another Draken. They are really solid and worth the money.
Thanks for the great review.
I really like this one. The crown placement might be a challenge but everything else seems so good especially the power meter. Very cool.
I only like it when brands etch “white bread” in French into the side of the case…
Blancpain, took me a minute!! 😂
Love the Draken brand, I remember when Mike launched the Tugela I was totally blown away by the quality I even emailed you requesting that you review it years ago, (not sure if you recall) so glad that they finally getting the recognition, brilliant product.
ohhh very nice. it gives me IWC vibes for some reason. would have loved to see a 40 or 38mm version.
A very nice looking watch, I really like blue second hand and the power reserver meter.
I’m not into micro brands but it’s a smart looking thing, simple clean design and I have a thing about LH crowns😊..if it was 40mm & bit less expensive 🤔..I don’t think I could resist.
I love me a big pilot watch -42mm minimum. This is a nice modern look. Replace the onion crown with a modern knurled crown. Nice lume and markers. Heck. I even like the big blank clasp - its a great empty canvas for some kind of engraving. I've been eyeballing the Hamilton for a birthday watch, but this one is tempting.
I hate it but I want it!
I don't think Jody is giving this one away! Too funny anyway!
I have the same problem with women! 😂
really gotta wow me to get me to buy a watch with the brand on the side of the case
Love the lefty crown, something so different from every other watch . Watches have become boring but this Draken intrigues me, I enjoy a different looking watch and this one I give kudos. Brilliant !
I dont mind it. Quite like the blue seconds.
I have the Hamilton, if im honest i prefer it but youre absolutely right about dressy/tool.
It could certainly grow on me and i do like the packaging.
Doesn't bear any resemblance whatsoever to the Hamilton...
Great review as always Jody! The watch itself is "ok", i'm a fan of having a power reserve, and this one is a bit clever. Would probably prefer a sailcloth strap. Not a fan of the 9 o'clock crown, it would be the hamilton for me!
I'm the exact opposite regarding PR-metres. Especially concering hand wind only watches, I don't like NOT knowing how much charge it has got left! I'd rather know than be left with the not knowing anxiety. And unlike PETROL, filling up this tank is free :)
Greetings from Glasgow excellent video as always lovely watch probably prefer the Hamilton Interstellar the lefty would bug me too.
Love the premise of this. Power meter is great integration. Didn't you say in an earlier video this movement was now discontinued?
That's a sharp watch. It gets serious consideration. Perfect size for my 8 inch wrist.
chunky and attractive, reminds me of Unimatic case-wise
Seems like a fantastic watch!
Love that t-shirt!!!
JAMES!
Good looking watch! Been curious about this brand for years….
Very nicely done watch, thanks for the review! I like everything about it other than perhaps the leftie crown. It is quite chunky and heavy but with Draken I have the impression that that is just part of the experience and not an accident, the watches are meant to be rugged and masculine and you will feel the raw texture of the crown in your fingertips a lot when using it. I have a Draken Tugela which I love and that one is a chunky beast too, but wearable on my 6.5 in wrist nevertheless.
Very nice watch, would make a cracking one and done and has the gada appeal.
The logo itself makes me smile, the brand name is a good choice.... definitely a winner and they have been around long enough to inspire confidence in a micro brand warranty.
There is only one negative and that's the side branding, which despite how good I think this watch is overall that one thing rules it out....🏴⌚🏴⌚
Love this Draken Jody ! Seems to be a very good microbrand ! Already planned to put them in one of my microbrands video, but this new pilot watch has an impressive look !
Very cool twist on the type-A flieger. Must be built like a tank to weigh that much. Draken looking like a great brand. Cheers!
Might be the first lumed date wheel I’ve ever seen. Great looking watch!
Its a classic on a lot of Zelos watches
Love the brand and another very good watch as usual from Draken, but I’ll skip on this one because there is too little distinction from the “Aoraki”, especially in its “Flieger” variant. Very similar dials, cases, crystals, straps, packaging …
It looks good, but I really do prefer the date box and crown at 3 o' clock
Good watch for Left Hander's I guess. It's a bit like the IWC dials
I love it. The power reserve indicator is absolutely great. The version A black looks even more flyerish. It s that I just bought a watch this morning 😅
Nice watch. My only issue is the thickness.
A decent looking watch, but I’ll stick with my Hamilton.
I'm with you, I love my Interstellar
I have the titanium field watch, it’s thin and very light and stays on top of my wrist.
I have the day date Hamilton, bought for 50% off, it look way better than this Draken.
@@jazzventura how can you found such a good deal?@!?
Looks great and I understand why they put the crown at 9 o'clock (cause of the power reserve at the bottom), but I just can't stand when a watch is a 'lefty', so it's a pass for me.
10:44 - - Being a Lefty, I've always flipped my watches with the crowns at the 7, 8, 9 or 10 upsidedown to wind or set the time with my right hand.
I'm a righty.. but still wear my watches on my right wrist.. jewelry on my left!
@@davidsherrick898 I tried when I was a kid to wear my ⌚ on my left wrist but it felt uncomfortable and distracting like putting your underwear on backwards. 🤨
The only time it doesn't bother me is on the rare occasion when I wear 2 ⌚⌚.
@@a_z.tazzzfan8497 I've been known to wear two watches at the same time! I have 52... and on rare occasions.
Hunt was the last great driver personality. Playboy, good looking, funny and very talented of course. Him and Sheen ruled the 70s.
Nice to see James Hunt again Jody. Proper character. He was a big guy and I dont know how he fitted in his car. Sorry I seem to be commenting on your tshirt 😂
My oldest tee! 22 years old. Only comes out on special occasions, usually when I go to watch live motorsport. What a guy!
It may be the OCD but I think if you have a power reserve the ideal should make it symmetrical, the current indicator looks distracting.
I do like the Draken. But I’ve bought a Commer Van and I’m being serious about sticking with a 3 watch collection…
A nice watch overall, I like what Mike has done with his design touches and the lefty crown doesn't bother me; but if it did I'd wear it righty and double wrist.
But Jodi, you need calling out for asking if it is better than the Interstellar. I have the Interstellar and this Draken is not better than the Interstellar because nothing is better than the Interstellar 😀
Surprised you didn't mention how the case and the bracelet seem at odds with each other, the angle of the case versus the curve of the endlinks, they could've done a much better job matching the bracelet to the case there.
Another Advertorial, with the watch half way up your forearm. We have to part ways , all the best mate.
?
I’ll put a like on the video, because it is your video, and that’s all I have to say.
I'm wearing the Cooper as we speak, and I don't understand what you're seeing when you say that it's similar to the Hamilton. To me this is clearly a type A flieger rather than a type B. The indices are lumed rather than applied with shiny digits. There's no inner hour track. It has no day complication, and certainly not at 12. And it has a very unique power meter. I simply don't see it.
I think calling it a zhuzhed up version of a flieger (so perhaps an updated, modernized model) may mean that it's philosophically similar to the Hamilton. But I find that a very odd comparison to make on a literal physical level.
Thanks for an interesting review. I'll assume your title was meant to drive people like me to the comments. 😀
I have both; the Hamilton Khaki field manual wind and the khaki automatic. They both run at less than +1 second per day…!!!
Waiting for the aliexpress sale video !!
I think the design limits have been reached for watches. Every watch looks like bits and parts of others. Innovation desert.
I like the watch alright. Seems nice enough, but that power reserve would bug me too much. I'm not into them very much in general ,but that one in particular makes me feel funny. When you first showed it on screen, I thought an applied minute marker fell off and was just stuck in there. Maybe I'd get used to it. Did anyone else think that's what they were seeing or was it just me?
Thats a good one! Like the movement choice.
Man, I remember when the Hamilton Interstellar was $589-$599 pretty consistently on Jomashop only a few years ago.
Not a fan of the crown at the left side, must be handy for lefty. And there is a big cons with Anti-Reflective coating on sapphire crystals when it scatch, it is just bad. I prefer to have the anti-reflective coating only on the bottom. With anti-reflective on the top, you lose the advantage of sapphire crystals, why are they doing it. But original design and great quality watch it seems.
Hey JOMW, can you plz review Specht&Söhne Royal Chronometer? This Chinese homage brand with weird German name has caught my attention lately, this Royal Chronometer is a direct homage to the Maen Manhattan and I think u should make a video about this brand
It looks like the date is lumed too?
Does it have to be/look this thick? It has a 9000 series in it. I’m not an expert but it seems like it could be more svelte. It’s my only complaint. Otherwise I love the other details and don’t think it’s too expensive. (Ok I’d want an on the fly clasp)
what type of flowering bush is in the outdoor shots?
Draken is also the name of the first Supersonic fighter in Europa. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saab_35_Draken
I'd prefer a smaller, flatter, non lefty, non branded San Martin A type flieger with a Seiko NH on board without date or power reserve meter for 150 Euro's or less.
Those power meters always give me bad conscience when not wearing the watch, they probably serve the same purpose as the CZcams studio stats 😅
Will keep my Sinn 556, but quite like the date placement and the power reserve on this dial.
The brand engraving on the case side, Blancpain style, is tacky.
That might be the first Flieger in this price range I'd prefer over an original basic Laco.
I mean, lumed crown, date and power indicator?
Interesting yet simple take on the case design?
Take my hard earned money and give me some superficial worldly joy!
I saw another watch with a lefty crown and power reserve at the six in the last week or two. I can't think what it was though.
Really nice looking watch, but for me just a little too big. 38mm would make it more appealing.
Almost perfect, I don't like the branding on the case, and the left hand crown is a deal breaker
Jody, will we get a review of the new Timex Marlin Jet?
Think I’ll have one of these and I’ll stick the nato on it. Hate metal bracelets.
Love it! I want one but normal LHD. Is it possible?
A nice watch for a lefty
I don’t know that I’ve ever noticed a lumed date wheel…
Can't help it. Just hate left hand crown watches. The watch itself is nice. I'd rather lose the power reserve and get a traditional crown position at 3 o'clock.
I came for the watch review, but now I'm more interested in the t-shirt
Looks good. $600 doesn’t feel outrageous for this.
When is the moans and nickel section being renamed to the "clasp and coatings" section?
Nice watch,of course depends of the price...
Nice watch....
Nice design, well integrated PR meter. But boy that clasp is HUGE. So bracelet option not for me.
Isnt that Hamilton called the "Cooper" rather than Interstellar? to not confuse it with the Murph?
My OCD wound not allow me to wear a left handed crown 😂
Logo/brand engraved on the side of the case makes this a hard pass for me.
Drop thé draken logo on thé side of thé case..and you might have some good...
It's definitely a polariser!
I’m a bit disappointed with the AliExpress Sale so far (for multiple reasons) so something like this may be the answer. I have been desperately looking for a pilot with a date. But why Draken why?! Why is the crown on the left…
Review recommendation. Sea-Gull 819.12.6975. $68.82 USD. Small seconds hand, sapphire crystal. Absolutely elegant, well built strap monster. I’ve been extremely pleased. Think it be a good review for you.
Might just have one in the queue...... 😉
Got a link for that Sea-Gull? Thanks.
It reminds me to a Sinn watch... Looks nice.
Lose the date window, and it might be interesting. Otherwise, it's a hard NO for me.
It doesn't have the unmistakable look of a Hamilton Interstellar
They could’ve gotten away with a jumbo onion crown on the left side since it won’t dig into your hand
