Wearing their hot-pink sweatpants and bright yellow bomber jacket, with seven pairs of sunglasses and a green mohawk (not to mention the flip flops) in a scene where your character reflects on the terrible war crimes they've committed.
So in the nutshell: This movie is FMA, but the events occur in random order.

That felt like a Harry Potter parody or some silliness.
The most important thing I learned from this video is that anime hairstyles look ridiculous when you try to recreate them on real people.
That's the thing about adaptation: you have to actually "adapt" to the medium you're working with.
Instead of giving a character a chin-strap with a completely clean shaven upper lip because that's how they looked in the manga, recognise that in the manga that was a stylistic choice, and that that style doesn't work for most people in real life and just give the character a full beard with a mustache.
A character only has a single shock of floppy blonde hair on the front of their head? Just give them a buzz cut that's a little longer at the front and curl it to the side a bit.
This shouldn't need to be said, but apparently someone involved in the making these movies needed to hear it 😅

Every anime live action movie looks like a fanmade cosplay. Which would be fine if it were just that, as a fan myself I can appreciate people re-enacting an anime in live action. The problem is it's not a substitute for the anime and can't stand on its own, at all.
This is like a dark alternate universe where the live action atla movies got a trilogy but somehow so much worse
I actually like this movie the best out of all three. Is it still bad? Yes, but it's kinda silly and that's fun. Also Ed looks 100% done the entire time and that cracked me up sm.

Presentation wise, this has - among the issue of trying way too hard to look like an anime - for me the opposite issue of the Death Note movie. In that movie it seemed really out of place to use American actors and an American high school backdrop. In this movie however it seems weird to have primarily Japanese actors playing characters in a world that has been styled around a 1919-1920s quaint France or Germany. Or generally, Europe from the early 20th century. And I'm not feeling that.

That Winry just happened to walk on Scar and Ed talking about killing her parents still bugs the hell out of me in the manga/brotherhood, it's just so terribly contrived. 🤦🏼♀️
I always found Mustang being the one to kill her parents was more interesting
@@alchemistofsteel8099 100%, Scar is already a serial killer, and it's much more interesting/unexpected when it's good guy character doing this horrible thing to another good guy but not out of malice.
@@Ekami-chan kinda goes against both scar and winry's character arcs, tho. the whole point of that is that two innocents got caught up in scar's revenge, perpetuating the cycle of violence. Winry learning that he killed her parents, but not taking revenge (thus stopping the cycle) is rather important to their arcs.
Everything on screen makes me feel like I'm watching a televised play. Just... everything looks so fake...

The moment I saw the announcement that they were releasing not one but TWO sequels to the live action movie within six months of eachother, i saw through the bullshit. The ONLY reason they made sequels is to cash in on the 21st anniversary of the manga, which is disgusting.

Hi. My son loves the anime series - 64 eps on disc, watched 3 years ago. I started watching cos he wanted me to but when I realised it was Al, trapped in the... door, whatever... I was invested! (I actually cried a little bit). So, I may not understand it fully but we love it and watched it X2 again.

03s grounded approach and mizushimas western cinema influence definitely would be easier to translate to live action. Just make it more grounded and do a military drama.
@@Wavecheckfoo It was made in Japan, and picked up by netflix after the fact, so it makes perfect sense for the actors to be who they are (cause you cast actors that are physically there). If it was actually liscensed to a western studio, for sure, but I doubt they would cast the characters accurately.

storyline fairly well. Just my opinion. I do love my FMA!!!Been a huge fan since the beginning! My sons father and I would watch it all the time together. And I can say that I'm not disappointed at all. Plus it's nice to see they used some of the actual English voices from the show... Lin's not as funny as he is in the show. Mustang, Hughes

from even just these 2 movies, they don't follow the story though, they mis-matched stuff from all over the place and didn't even put them in chronological order lol. (signed someone who watched 2003 and brotherhood, back to back, over the last 2 months).

I was usually super tired and stoned af when I'd watch the anime, so after I watched all 3 of the movies I went on Hulu and started to rewatch FMA BROTHERHOOD. The entire season and yeah definitely same as i remember... Awesome! So, yeah in just my opinion the movies were awesome

@@Makoto_Misum1 oh yeah I get what you mean. Kinda like with the DBZ Evolution and the anime show. Evolution was like I said in my opinion a good movie. Like a good bad live action. Probably kinda how you feel about FMA live action lol I love that they got the voice over actors to do the English dub. But Alfonse was idk. Didn't really gravitate towards him like I did the show. I was drawn to Edward, Mustang and Father (dwarf in the flask) and so saddened by Nina. I bawled when they showed it on adult swim and when I saw it in the movie 😭😭😭😭

@@isramubashar1227 Thanks for informing me. I've seen her other series aswell as both FMA 2003 and Mangahood. It has 25 episodes and 8 ovas. Arslan Senki/The Heroic Legend of Arslan. Daryun and Arslan have similar hairstyles to Ed Elric and Solf J Kimblee. I have it on my Funimation app on my Samsung TV.
She also made the HeroTales manga, based off Chinese History, unfortunately it’s anime adaptation kinda sucked
She also made an amazing manga about agricultural high school, which grips the reader whether they like animals and agriculture or not
And a few short one shot manga stories which you can only really read online or in Japanese: examples include Stray Dog, Souten no kyomori, A scrapped idea for chapter one of FMA, Demons of Shanghai, and Raiden-18
AND she’s currently working on a new series- demons of the underworld (yomi no tsugai) which is being translated in English next year
Brilliant author and artist, I *would* learn Japanese just to read the works yet to be translated in English

I don't even know why I'm watching this, since I absolutely LOVED the three movies. They were epic, it's a shame that not everyone is ready to appreciate good live action movies and just take every single scene as a joke 🤷🏻♀️
Looks like America and Japan are incapable of making Anime movies.
I just take these live actions as it’s own thing, not judging it as being a 1 to 1 adaptation and being irked that things are plotted the same. I only saw the first one, and I enjoyed it.

The issue raised in this video and the last is that because so much context from the original work is missing you effectively can't enjoy this as it's own thing, because without that context nothing really makes sense.

@@MC-up7rl given that the live action is it’s own “universe” there isn’t “missing context” because again, it’s own thing. Of course, if you’re aware of the original of the original work, your brain can’t subconsciously stop the comparisons but I wouldn’t use that as a deliberate con for the film(s).

Was it a bad movie, the answer is no. Was it a good movie, the answer is no. The movie is fun, the answer is yes. Was the movie made for just fun and have a heart, the answer is yes. They didn't make the movie 2 be a triple A hollywood type movie. It isn't a serious movie, so you see a lot in Japanese/Asian countries that the actors seem 2 be overacting/being a bit whacky. It is pretty normal there.
Do say it should've been a show instead of movies, because the show can adapt it better than movies could, as the movies need 2 cut and shuffle things because movies r structured diff and time limits so things flow better.
The short joke indeed doesn't work because actor is 2 tall for it. Mei Chang being aged up does make sense, as making a kid that is the age of the character in manga wouldn't work with all the stunts the character does. Armstrong is just 2 scrawny.
Either the reason why all Japanese actors, blame hollywood/netflix and them making those live action movies of Dragonball and Death Note. They learned from those mistakes.
