Here are my notes of Abigail's video: Start w arpeggios - fancy fast fingerwork 0:12 m17 - plays super (super super) fast "It goes at whatever speed you can successfully play it." (but it's fun to play it fast) 0:36 to play it quickly, leave second finger down on D (on A string). 0:44 Demos very slow, and repeats. "This takes some real coordination practice." Stick with it - pretend there's something sticky on second (D) finger 1:26-2:15 Then little by little speed it up 2:20-3:30 m21 loop it & play over and over - ck low E against A - if start to speed it up and intonation goes haywire, speed it back down again keep muscles loose, keep things small, that's the secret (to going fast, but clean) 3:56-4:30 practices putting it all together 4:35 another tricky shift m37 - practices 3 notes 5:22 add D - extension - shows thumb (side view) practice - adding one note at a time 7:50 - 8:20 play m37 thru end 8:25 hooked bows - don"t be too serious - do TA-DA 9:35 practice hooked TA-DAs on open A - make sure string is grabbed - then muscles can be soft 11:02 play thru all Thanks Abigail! I sound better all ready! I hadn't even noticed that accented D.
Hi Abigail..I know that this video is several years old but I just wanted to thank you for this excellent instruction. I’m a 68 year old beginner Cello player and this piece is my next assignment. I like your straight forward approach to teaching the Cello. Thanks again and I hope that your continuing journey is a most pleasant one indeed..
Abigail, i wish we has started playing cello years ago and could have followed you along while you were active in youtube. thank for leaving these posted: your instruction is so helpful.
I am using the Suzuki Cello School Vol 2 book at the moment - is there any chance you could post a video about #11 Gavotte (F.J.Gossec) - your teaching style is really really good. Many thanks for your posts. Simon :)
Straight to the point how to do it,
and do it to the best possible way.
You're the best teacher in the world !.... Never thank you enough...
Your approach to explaining and teaching the "tricky" parts of a piece continue to motivate students of all ages.
