Hello Nasa, You just heard Floor Jansen (pronounce Yahn-Sen). She is Dutch, and lives with her husband Hannes van Dahl, the drummer of the band Sabaton and their two daughters in Sweden.
Floor was born on Februari 21st, 1981 in Goirle the Netherlands. At the age of 16 she started her career (initially) just as the background singer from the Dutch metal band âAfter Foreverâ in 1997, but real soon she took over the lead until early 2009 and the band fell apart. Parallel she studied at the Dutch Rock Academy in Tilburg starting in 1999 where she graduated in 2003 and spent two years on classical training with the National Conservatory. She studied Musical Theatre and one year Opera. She plays guitar, piano and flute and has completed 12 years of music studies. Sheâs a Light Lyric Soprano and her vocalrange runs from E3 to D6. In addition to her activities at After Forever, she gave singing lessons.
On May 5, 2010, she presented her new band âReVampâ, which was disbanded in September 2016. In August 2010 Jansen was a guest in the TV program De tiende van Tijl. In that program she sang an aria by Puccini. From October 1, 2012 (while she was within ReVamp, but recovering from a burnout) Floor replaced Anette Olzon as the singer of Nightwish halfway their Imaginaerum World Tour. After one year (shortly after the Wacken Open Air festival concert 2013) on October 9th 2013, it was announced that she was to become Nightwishâs regular new front singer. But beside that she is doing multiple other things and projects, even a solo career. In 2019 she attended the Dutch RTV show âBeste Zangersâ and in 2022 the German variant âSing Meinen Songâ.
âInto the Unknownâ is her cover of the Disney animated video âFrozen IIâ and was recorded at home as a sidestep for her 5yo daughter because of the COVID-19 lockdown.

Into the unknown is a song from the film Frozen 2. Floor recorded this for her daughter freja who loved the Frozen films. Floor also recorded Let It Go from the original Frozen film.
Whichever deity or higher force you believe in, Floor Jansen is their manifestation on earth. THE voice of our time.

When you want to go further on the path of our 1.83m (6ft.+) tall Dutch Valkyrie Queen Floor Jansen besides Nightwish, here is some background information on the best and most versitale female singer of our time. Floor joined the band 'After Forever' in 1997 at the age of 16. Here are some of my favourites: âEnergize meâ; Monolith of Doubtâ and Dreamflightâ.
Floor attended the then new Rock Academy in 1999 and graduated in 2003. She also studied 2 years at the Conservatory (1 year Music Theatre and 1 year Opera).
'After Forever' disbanded in 2009 and Floor started her own band 'Revamp' from scratch. Here she experimented with different vocal styles within one song from full operatic to death growls in seconds. Here are some examples: âMiseryâs no Crimeâ, âWild cardâ and âDisdainâ.
Besides managing a band on her own she also did a lot of vocal coaching and as she is a perfectionist, she wants to do everything at 100%+. Eventually she had to pay the price and got a burnout. She had just recovered when end of september 2012 the call came from Nightwish to fill in for the remainder of the North American Tour at first as their second singer Annette got ill. Floor had just 48 hours to learn the whole setlist. There is a documentary made of this world tour: âPlease learn the setlist in 48 hoursâ
Floor joined Nightwish after the iconic Wacken concert in 2013 as permanent member of the band. Floor continued to perform with 'Revampâ also, but it was clear that she could not combine the two for much longer, so 'Revamp' disbanded in 2016. Floor did a side project called 'Northward' where she dived into the Hard Rock scene. The song 'While Love Died is a must see.
Her stunning performances on the Dutch TV show 'Beste Zangers 2019' gave her at last some more recognition in her home country where she was relatively unknown until then. There are numerous guest appearances with other bands to find on CZcams. To see how to get a crowd of metalheads silenced and in awe watch her featuring with the band 'Epica' and the song 'Stabat Mater Dolorosaâ and to see her in full opera mode, watch her rendition of 'O Mio Babbino Caro' from Puccini. As live concerts were cancelled and home isolation due to the Covid situation, Floor discovered CZcams in these years. Mindblowing covers, chats with her idols and other singers, vocal masterclasses, personal insights and so much more. She even made a video reacting to herself singing Ghost Love Score at Wacken. Lots of technical info and some memories of her starting with Nightwish.
Also her Fan Friday videos are hilarious. Just unpack some of these and other presents she left on her channel. Also videos of her solotour she did with songs of her impressive career. Her latest endeavour is her stunning solo album âMy Paragon. Floor is a high sensitive person, so peace and quiet is as important for her. Living by the woods in Sweden with her husband Hannes Van Dahl (drummer of the band Sabaton), daughters Freja (turns 7 years this march) and Lucy (born last october) ,a couple of horses, dogs and cats, she found this.

So you have met the Valkyrie Goddess! She is performing here in her home studio, in the barn of her little farm in Sweden. This was during Covid lockdown and was the second song from "Frozen" that she covered. Her daughter Freja is a huge fan of the Frozen movies and Floor sang these basically in self defence. As always with these home made covers, the camera guy is her husband Hannes Van Dahl, drummer for the Swedish metal band "Sabaton". Although Dutch, Floor performs in multiple languages. Since 2012 she has been with the Finnish band Nightwish, which you should absolutely check out! A good place to start would be Nightwish's set at the Wacken Open Air festival in Germany in 2013. This was widely recognised as a classic concert - of any genre, I first heard Nightwish perform "Ghost Love Score" from Wacken in 2019 on CZcams. I was absolutely blown away by how skilled all the band were, I had never heard of Symphonic Metal and Floor just snatched my soul. I was ready to swear loyalty and follow her into battle - fortunately it turns out that she is a lovely person and would never do that.
Best singer on the planet as far as I am concerned!

This is just the tip of the ice berg (no pun intended). You should listen to her cover of Laura Fabian's 'Adagio'. In terms of versatility, performance, and overall technique, Floor is the greatest vocalist I've ever seen.
