Hey guys, thanks for watching! I'm testing this new format for reviews and consider this first video a "Proof Of Concept." It was all done in a single take,
So if it has a raw feeling, that’s intentional. It's not a replacement for a full review but just a more fun and lighthearted format to share my thoughts. I know it's not perfect; it's more of a test to see if you guys like it. If you guys enjoy this format, I will double down on it and make it better with multiple camera angles, more video content (B-Roll) of the product, and just continue making it better. Please be brutally honest in the comments below, and I will do my best to fine-tune this. Thanks again for all your support!

To me this is thee only 1 I didn't like but just like everything else ,you can't always hit home runs.with that being said I will continue to watch every video you do.you seem to do it for the love of it not for the chedda.thats why I continue to watch and support everything you do
Love it. Lots of us don't have time for 2-hour-long gabfests with random silliness and non sequiturs... these short takes are perfect to get the info we really want. Keep it up, Ralph!

Just an fyi. My friends Star Wars pinball has the same black lines through the plexi. Unfortunately. Good news is arcade 1up fixed whitewater and now with a simple hack you can add all 30 tables to one machine.
I wasn’t aware, mine was a pre-production unit and it didn’t have the lines. Sucks that this was on both units. Assuming it was on all of them since you said it was on the Star Wars too. Anyhow, kind of old news at this point I guess but thanks so much for watching!

Attack From Mars is cool but We need that Universal Studios Pinball from Arcade1up already!!! I want Jurassic Park & Jaws & Back to the Future. Also love if Creature From The Black Lagoon was on it.
I ended up going with atgames pinball. $850 with 130 tables and more to come.
Great review and perfect timing - I only had about 3.5 minutes to watch!

I swapped my buttons, flipped all my sileniods moved one of next to each flipper button , and installed a piece of 1/8 double pane glass instead of the plexiglass. Made a world of difference. Whitewater still plays bad.

The pulsating red bar at the 60 second mark was terrifying.
It was a bit quick for me.
I would like to seen it in action so you could point out in detail the issues you have with the cabinet.
Hopefully Arcade1up will make some changes with a firmware update.
Retro Ralphs Rapid Reviews. Should be called "R4 Reviews" or "4R", or "R Cubed" something like that. But you could definitely make it sound cool. Love your channel and your Arcade Pickers show.

Love the format, lose the music and the flames. I like the brevity, but I feel like dramatizing the time pressure is distracting from the actual review of the product. Keep up the good work, my dude!
Still worth it for 9 games and it's not a big deal to buy a new piece of tempered glass.

I always enjoy your content, but here is some suggestions
1. 3:30 is way too short, consider maybe 10 minutes?
2. The countdown was fine, but the fire at the end was very distracting.
Still a huge fan, and I will be there.... onnnnnn The Next One!

Okay, this was a REALLY neat idea! And before the review started, I was excited because I thought the entire review was gonna have you holding the camera and walking around with it on a gimbal as you talk and show different parts of the machine… the gimbal making it so it wasn’t too shaky but still provided the intensity of being on a time limit…
But obviously this is not what happened! The review was still good and honest and informative and fair!
But I totally thought the “rapid review” thing was gonna be hand-held lol
I loved how crazy this format is. It totally works. Do more reviews in this format.
Ralph I might know why. So I use a lot of plexy glass(acrylic) in my buseinss. When covid hit the grocery stores and pretty much every ones bought all the acrylic available for shields guards. And I mean all of it. Even from the USA manufactures. If was very hard to good quality acrylic at all. Most likely all that was left was the crappy stuff, and arcade 1up still wanted to get the product out. So they went with a cheaper kind. That is just my best educated guess being in the industry.
I think you're probably right man, I just wish they would have held it back if they knew about it. Great point and thank you for the comment and for watching!

If you talk to Arcade1up. Please ask them to invest in R&D and QC. This seems to be the biggest issue many of us have.

I know the AFM machine has a myriad of issues but for some reason I still really like it. Tables are fun in spite of the flaws so I'm keeping it for now, Mel is also promising an update! As for the plexi, mine seems fine. Maybe I got lucky.

I don't understand all the criticism. U love my machine. For 800$, I'm totally happy.
I dunno, why 3:30? I think a 5 minute review would be more interesting and similarly constraining, but that's just me. I like the idea of the format though!
Arcade 1up pinball has a lot going for it as far as the quality of the cabinet build. Running the playfield at 720 is a pure deal killer, a slightly more powerful sbc capable of pushing 1080 would have made this a quality product. The complaints about the dmd are silly, maintaining the correct aspect ratio is more important than "using the whole screen", they probably should have made the cutout for the dmd match the actual display and concealed the unused parts of the screen to alleviate these complaints. As per usual, arcade 1up is "close but no cigar".

Haha you looked a little like you were being held at gunpoint at the start but then you eased into it. This is a fun and entertaining format but I do hope it can live alongside your 10 mins+ reviews of big new releases. Also boring CZcams inside baseball thing, you can't place a midroll ad in a video this short, so you might be leaving some money on the table!
Yo Ralph, I follow you for being you(Retro Ralph) and I liked the short version but can’t say I loved it. However I do love how you keep moving forward with new creative content.

Like the format Ralph and you packed a lot of information into the 3:30 but you did not show the actual cab nor gameplay at all. Maybe show more of the machine next time and just voice over? Anyhow keep up the great videos, all the best from Germany! Josef
I agree with you. I was trying to see who people would react to me just standing there in the first concept video. I can incorporate more product shots and things like that for sure. That's great feedback and thank you for watching.
My SW pinball had the lines too. I replaced it with glass.

I actually think the AtGames pinball with the Zac titles push it over the edge as far as value. It's not perfect but neither of these are perfect. I'm leaning in your direction as well bud. I hope all is well!

Cool review. Id have to guess the plexi was a covid related sourcing limitation. 1up has been consistent on plexi and parts across their product lines so far. Thanks!
Cheaper plexi on this than Marvel/Star Wars 🤯
I actually think they might all be bad. It’s possible that my Star Wars being an early production unit was using better quality plexi. But this AFM plexi is extremely flawed... sucks. Thanks for watching bud!

I would suggest doing zoom in camera work as your describing and reviewing the cab. The review itself is money and the format is great.

I see lines from the plexi glass on my Star Wars as well. Now that i have both i have to say the Atgames is night and day better than the Arcade 1up pins. Especially with the Zacarria tables on them. Screen is better. Flipper buttons have a better feel and wifi plus ober 100 tables to play. No comparison!

After seeing your review and others this only further reassures me that I made the right choice by purchasing the Star Wars pinball machine and not Attack From Mars.

Nice speed review. Personally I love my Attack From Mars, but I do think the plexi is pretty unacceptable and Whitewater definitely needs to be patched. But, having said that, I love this machine and have been very happy with my purchase.

I just can't get on board with the A1up pinball machines. I'm really glad I went with the Atgames even though it's not as sexy as the A1ups. In this case looks aren't everything. Great take on a quick review btw
Maybe 5 minute reviews would be better. Seems really rushed. Didn't have a chance to look at gameplay, which is really what I'd prefer to see. But good knowing about the issues, especially the plexi.
This has been such a wild ride for me. I went from being super excited to just not buying one altogether through this whole process.
There's a tiny chance I may get Star Wars if I were to get a smoking deal, but other than that I'm good to wait for Gen 2

No, they used the same plexi on the Marvel. I have the Marvel and needed to buy a tempered glass replacement. the lines were terrible.

@@RetroRalph I Bet it is random depending on the cut of plastic they use. Maybe luck of the draw. Mine had it. Bought a temprered replacement then a couple of weeks later switched out the monitor to a 32" lol new glass on the way.
FLIPPER LAG..all the tables have it and seams every CZcams personality missed it!
Yes there's a bit of lag but it's negligible IMO. I truly didn't feel it on the Star Wars table at all. Maybe a little bit more noticeable on Attack From Mars but nothing that makes it unplayable IMO.
@@RetroRalph it's definitely a bummer and the largest issue IMO I didn't hear anything about it until this thing got in the hands of real pinheads and I seen some reviews on pinside. That being said I bought it anyway cuz honestly I have my 4th new in box game coming and in the pinball community we spend more than this on simple mods for our machines so I'm enjoying this not sure on its staying power. Seems like you forgot to mention a lot. This seemed like more of a review of Star Wars and not a standalone rare use of Mars. Like the idea of a faster review but maybe collect your thoughts more and use a teleprompter or something
I'm really just testing out the format, I appreciate the candid feedback. It's not meant to replace a full review but be more quick sound bytes. Those full reviews take a lot of time and I thought this would be a different and fun way to publish my thoughts on something without taking so much time to film it. New format is fun but I say it would be funny too if you really try to beat the clock with everything you want to say. So basically instead of stopping the review to wrap things up, saying good bye etc as the clock ends just have the video cut out completely. Meaning you lost. Have an animated explosion something fun. Haha Then hopefully your next review you beat the clock. Haha

This video stressed me out. Not a fan of this format personally, but it might be popular with others. Feels like some reality TV gameshow which I abhor so that is probably why, just my opinion. What if the Rapid Reviews remained 3 amd a half minutes but were scripted and highly polished via creative editing?
