I use an 8wt for carp these days. I had a battle a few years back with a 18lb common I caught on a 7wt. Took me half an hour to get her in the net! Whilst I would use a fast 6wt in some situations, I do prefer to have the power an 8wt affords me.
When you let the dry size 16 sink 30 to 40 feet away, how the hell do you see the fly anymore? I only ever hook up if I can see the fly go in their mouth.
What fly lines do you recommend for general carp fly fishing purposes? I may have missed it. Looking for a 6 or 7 weight carp setup
