Best Rockabilly Guitar Riffs of 1956!

  • Carl Perkins, Cliff Gallup and Grady Martin laid down these iconic opening riffs in 1956. I feel that year was possibly the pinnacle of Rockabilly Guitar, and whilst Scotty Moore will always deserve a mention, his most popular work was already well and truly circulating so I left him out of this mini compilation / lesson! These three players influenced the likes of Brian Setzer, Danny Gatton, Jeff Beck and countless others, so it's always good to look at what they did.

    What amazes me is the fact that the music played back in the 50s is being played overseas! We need more of this style of music in America.

      Yeah it’s funny how it goes that way, even back in the day the blues artists seem to get so much more acclaim in Europe than they did in their homeland!

    Grady Martin, Bob Moore and co were slated to accompany Gene Vincent in the studio. When Cliff Gallup launched into Race With The Devil, Grady realised that he wouldn't be needed because Gene's band were the real deal. I think they were the only rockabilly band in that studio that weren't replaced by Grady's A Team.

    • @AdrianWhyte
      @AdrianWhyte  Před 2 lety

      Isn’t that crazy? I had heard this but forgot all about it! “Take the day off boys” is what the house engineer must have said to Grady and co.. what an era. I really thought the musicianship was reaching a peak for the period!

      Per interview (youtube) with producer Ken Nelson, no such thing. (paraphrase) "With an unproven singer, we never would have invested in paying top studio musicians".

      @paulcampbell4431 Před 2 lety

      @@jlewand Grady Martin, Bob Moore etc appeared on large numbers of rockabilly recordings by unproven singers that never made it beyond regional interest. Many of the recordings weren't even local hits.
      Those top studio musicians were the house band and they were on nearly everything that came out of that studio, day in day out.
