  • Carew Manor is in Beddington Surrey.
    Between Croydon and Sutton.
The Carew Family of this video are very well known in history. Carew Castle is in Pembroke, Pembrokeshire,West Wales. Princess Ness was from Royal Welsh blood and is part of the Carew family.
2 miles away is Pembroke Castle this is where the Tudors started and where King Henry VII was born.So the Carews and the Tudors were very good friends.
Nicholas Carew looking to better himself bought the Manor and the grounds in Beddington.
Nicholas was a very common name in the Carew Family as the name was passed from father to son.
Kings and Queens used to Visit Carew Manor. Henry VIII, Elizabeth I and James I.
Lots of hunting, fishing and a very nice place to relax.
It all went so badly wrong for Nicholas when he upset King Henry VIII and then lost his head.
Thats what happens to people who get to close to someone like King Henry.
Another well known person in history also Upset the King This Time James I in 1591. Sir Walter Raleigh secretly, and without royal permission, married one of Queen Elizabeth I maids of honour, Elizabeth Throck morton of Carew Manor.
Raleigh spent time in the Tower of London for this and Elizabeth was expelled from the court but the marriage appears to have been a genuine love-match and survived the imprisonment. A popular story is that when Raleigh did finally lose his head by the say so of James I in 1618.It is said that he haunts the grounds and St Marys Church which is beside the Manor House.
There is a lot more history to find out about.
