    He was where he wanted to be when he died - in his study, surrounded by his beloved books. That's my kind of guy. Thank you for the video, Claire. :)

      I thought the same thing - at his desk among his books, perhaps planning one on caring for bees, in pure English of course.

    Something about this period in history produced many amazing people. Thank you Claire.

      I think it’s more relatable than some earlier periods, but it’s still so distant that it’s a little mind-boggling. And the interwoven interpersonal relationships add so much more to the events that happened. It makes it feel so much more... vivid, and real in a way. It really does have a certain something to it, doesn’t it?

    I’m glad some of his children survived him and I hope that his wife and his children were provided for upon his passing

      Amen. She had those elusive child birthin’ hips. Just a few weeks ago my specialist... complimented (?) me on my uterus, but said even for a petite woman such as myself it’s even more petite than expected, and any kids I have will really need to be c-section. I’ve heard this for years from my previous specialist, but it was so funny to be both complimented and, in the same breath, cautioned.
      I’d be in so much trouble if I was in Tudor times. 😳 No thanks! I’ll go directly to a convent, do not pass go, do not collect 200 pounds, actually instead, I give away all my worldly goods and watch as all the other players make their way around and around the board. Better safe than... a very sad medieval statistic.

    He truly was an amazing man of his or any time. It is a wonder that he wasn't sought out as a translator? Richard had a good life and most importantly, he avoided the Tower. Thank you, Claire, for another great video.

    Hi Claire...pls take a look at CZcams "Stitching Over the Day"...This young woman is knitting clothing from the Tudor Period...patterns from the following book..."Tudor Roses" by Alice Starmore. Her knitted, period clothing are absolutely stunning! If she were living during Tudor Times, she would have been the royal seamstress/weaver/knitter.
    Thank you for my Tudor fix!

    🇦🇺🦘 Well educated, but teaching himself so many languages, he really did "give back" to his community, didn't he? To be an author and historian who knew the 'whos who' of his times, it appears he was popular. cont...
    To have his "Survey of Cornwall" re-published in modern times, it must be 'quite a book'! "Thank you" for another very interesting video Claire. 💗👑👍

    There's a society that advocates we all use Anglish, I think they call it, where all foreign words are deleted from English. So, for example, instead of to like something you brook it. We still have a remnant of this in sayings such as "He brooks no opposition."

    • @dirkbollein4406
      @dirkbollein4406 Před 4 lety +2

      If you delete all 'foreign' words from English, there would be little left. English spoken language contains a lot of Flemish and English writing language contains a lot of French. Then not even colonial influences have counted.

    Most interesting Claire. Thanks for sharing your passion with us! Was Richard Carew related to Ann Carew, who was sadly racked and died at the stake?

    • @AmaraJordanMusic

    • @anneboleynfiles
      @anneboleynfiles  Před 4 lety

      I don't know an Anne Carew who was racked and burned, but as Amara says, there's Anne Askew, and you can find out more about her in my video - czcams.com/video/29QImEPHhbE/video.html
