    It’s funny how everyone bitched that harbor freight tools are cheap junk. Now that they are coming out with better quality tools. People are bitching there too expensive. Quality costs money. They are still way cheaper then snap on. I’m definitely going to buy some Icon.

    Old school mechanic here, gotta say I am impressed by Icon, I think Snap-on has a very good competition, and the Icon is more bang for your buck. I have a few snap-on tools myself, but overall I rather go with the Icon. They look identical to the Snap-on, and performance is identical to the Snap-on on grip. Definitely I go with the Icon. Has way better deal money wise then the Snap-on.

    I have Gearwrench ratcheting wrenches and have broken 1 out of maybe 250 wrenches in the last 8-10 years so they have earned my business. I’m not entirely sold on needing teeth on an open end ratchet just yet but do have complete sets of the channel lock brand. I rip down classic cars for restoration and very rarely am I using an open end wrench unless it’s to hold a backside of a nut. I don’t need tool truck brands to do my job but it does feel good using overpriced fancy tools.

    Great video. I am interested in the stubby icon wrenches. 50 bucks a set seems like a good deal for them. Your videos have been super educational, and I feel like I can make an informed purchase because of them.
    Two points:
    First, I work on a lot of classic cars and Harleys. I use my SAE tools at least as much as my metric tools. Gotta have full sets of BOTH! Nothing more annoying than not having the right tool.
    Second, my Matco reversible ratcheting wrenches are made in the USA and it says so right on them. And they are exactly the same length as Snap-On flank drive plus wrenches. Maybe that has changed since I bought them, 6 or 7 years ago?? Whatever.
    Great video. Thanks for taking the time to make it.

    Dang good vid , there is bolt hex min and max during the manufacturing process of bolts..I worked at a place that made bolts for the Big three, for example a 13 mm hex min was 501 the max was 511...1/2 '' was 489 to 500..I have all ways preached this to my coworkers .If yea have a situation where yea have a hex rounding off try a different tool , even if it is another craftsman wrench.yea have wear on tools that have been used for yrs.

  • @44warden
    @44warden Před 4 lety +1

    Why someone would tighten bolts way more than normal manufacturers specs would allow (e.g. actual vehical nut and bolt specs) in order to judge a tool is beyond me?? Now what would intrigue me is the number of times that tool can be used in accordance to manufacturers specs with the appropriate application of that tool. That would truly show the true value of the tool. What I would be interested in, which hardly anyone actually shows is a stress AND nut and bolt rounding test on 12 pt sockets and wrenches since most manufacturers INSIST on putting them as the preferred box end.
    PLEASE do a stress test on 12 pt box end wrenches.

  • @raphealwood4434
    @raphealwood4434 Před 3 lety

    My question is why are you trying to break something with the box then of a ratcheting wrench?.. this is why people break all their stuff cuz they don't want to take care of it! I've had the same Craftsman wrenches since I was a kid, and that's the reason you have two different sets of wrenches. You break it with your regular box in wrench and then switch to ratcheting and unscrew it! And for the people who broke theirs at 600 lb and was bragging about it. There is no reason to ever put 600 lb of torque on a bolt. 187lbs is the average head bolt! So complain about cheap tools all you want, but most of these will absolutely do the job. And if you break them it's because you weren't using the right tool. Granted after years you might have to replace one, but that's just my point. But snap on is nice quality. I just don't feel like the price is right. I will stick with what has taken care of me my whole life.

    @Redemptiongarage WOOOOOOO,WOOOOOOOOOO! YUP that's rite double WOOOOOO! Great video all the way around bro from the testing of wrench's themselves to your honest opinions (which I whole heartedly agree with you!) Look like you where using a drone to capture the "pan shots"during testing! Look like now you're a 4x4 drivin, tool testn, video drone flying,unbiased and great opinion given cool cat! Woooooooo!😂🤣😂🤣😎

    Personally I don't like long wrench's , I have big hands and huge arms. No need for the long wrench design , hard to get into small places,
    I can get the bolts tight or loose.

    8:35 its sounds like a wet sloppy fart. Great video by the way i was looking for a better reacheting wrench. I still use the pittsburgh ones l. The ratcheting mechanisms in those ones are rough

    A lot of talk and little testing to make the point loud and clear. I’m always Leary of Lots of talk before the test starts! He’s already stated that he believes SNAP ON is the best! That statement makes this a waste of time.

    Good to see these holding up to some abuse. It's hard to beat the lifetime warranty and not have to go find a tool truck being an at home wrench monkey. I don't need them but i like to have good tools for the times i work on my vehicles.... So what if i use a matco rachet for oil changes??

    Are the Milwaukee wrenches with the grip teeth like the icon tougher? I wonder if the teeth would get eaten up easier like the icon well not easy but on these videos I see the teeth getting run down

      Nick Randazzo the Milwaukee wrenches teeth do bite into the nut/bolt if it’s TIGHT.

    I am not real impressed with ICON sockets and ratchets and will not be expanding on what little I own. On the other hand the long pattern ratcheting wrenches and torque wrenches have been awesome and well worth the money as far as I am concerned. Stubby ratcheting wrenches are next. Will be interesting to see how the screwdrivers turn out. HF has always been a gamble for me. But for the prices, you're like so what? If it breaks, open my wallet and upgrade.

    now that top tier brand tools even get made in Taiwan, for me its all about what do i get for my dollar. No loyalty to the expensive brands if their tools are not worth it.

      Icon line was designed by a former snap on employee. Basically snap on, just affordable. Made in Taiwan, which is good. Taiwan makes good tools.

      @@kkoch666 I use boxo tools, icon, snap on, and husky. Day in and day out. My icons are standing up to the daily use of my everyday work. Tools break they all do, but some break because of just stupidity. Just the other day one of my snap on impact sockets that I only had for a couple months, shred to pieces. I don’t think snap on will be around forever, not when can get other good quality wrenches and sockets elsewhere for a fraction of the price. If they stay around forever, it will be because of college students maxing out their account before even having a job.

      @@joshuastevens5910 Snap-on has been the most expensive for 100 years. Nobody has put them out of business yet. Where I'm at college students get 50% off except on boxes, that would be the time to stock up.

      @@kkoch666 I’ve been wrenching professionally for myself for over 5 years. I own my own trucking company. Snap-off isn’t the only tool out there, and far to many Snap-off fanboys that think it’s the only tool. The tool doesn’t make you a mechanic. I’ve had snap on breaker bars snap right in half and other brands haven’t.
