#TheSecretofNimh #MrsBrisby - Krátké a kreslené filmy
I thought it was adorable and sweet how Justin and Mrs Brisby were showing signs of attraction to one another, and perhaps in another story they could have grown closer to maybe even be lovers, but for this story they had other priorities they had to focus on. But one can dream of what could have been.
The chemistry was so obvious. I especially loved how Justin respected Mrs Brisby as an equal despite not being genetically altered, supported her decision to drug Dragon although he didn’t agree with it and never once doubted her courage.
I love 3:46 - 3:50 always thought it was cute how Mrs. Brisby gets all flustered when she's caught calling Justin's eyes beautiful
I saw this when I was four. I ship them!!
There were going to be more scenes including a kiss one, but it never made the final cut.
@@mercenaryknight5419 Really? Bummer, but I guess it worked out in the end.
Top 3 disappointments of my childhood:
1. Santa doesn't exist;
2. Justin and mrs. Brisby didn't end up together;
3. Secret of NIMH 2.
Well, in the books, they did get married ^^
I liked the 2nd one. 1st one is definitely the better one but I did like the 2nd one
@@kahootissecretlymaya1439 Really!? In which book?
@@dianadoraen7864 I dunno :,) but somebody pointed it out in the comments!
@@kahootissecretlymaya1439 No they didn’t! Justin died saving Brutus and another rat from the cyanide gas.
Mrs brisby: beautiful
Justin: oh 😏
Mr brisby: the lights
Justin again: oh 😐
How romantic feeling ♥️♥️
Yeah, but he knew. ;)
@@raymondbrereton3298Of course
@@raymondbrereton3298 In The Rescuers Down Under (Monaguebilly785's Style)
Timmy Brisby as Bernard
Jenny Mcbride as Miss Bianca
Basil Of Baker Street as Jake
Fievel Mousekewitz as Cody
Stella (Balto 3) as Marahute
Jenner as Percival C McLeach
Fluffy (Rugrats) as Joanna
Mrs Brisby and Justin as Cody's Parents
Mr Ages as Chairmouse
Mike and Sulley (Monsters Inc) as The Rangers
In the original script Justin had a girlfriend.
I guess they wanted to give her some hint of a romantic relationship.
It was pretty sad heavy story add to the fact her character was a widow raising 4 kids by herself. They needed lighten it up a bit.
Before Justin even reveals himself to be a good guy you can just tell he's good. He's got that goofy friend-shaped look and movement.
True
Shape theory is one of the most common ways animators convey personality. Jenner is all sharp angles mixed with a vaguely serpentine way of moving. Justin is solid and dependable, lots of rectangles and other solid shapes comprise his outline. Brutus is the reluctant but genuinely good-hearted character, the ovals and circles that make up his outline and his somewhat clumsy way of thumping about imply a guy who isn't the brightest but is a good person, despite being played for a fool.
You can see it in every animated film, pretty much. Google search shape theory in animation for way more examples, it might be animation 101 but it's still fascinating.
You can hear the eye roll in Ages’ voice when he introduced Justin.
I know.
How rude.
“Reveal my name.”
I love how he decided to go the most dramatic, theater kid way possible instead of just simply going, “Guess who?”
Justin is so handsome and charming. He has the heart of a true knight
Ikr
No. He has the heart of a true Prince
@@SnazzyjazzBro That too
Justin think he’s in love with Elizabeth Brisby.
@@raymondbrereton3298That’s Jonathan’s wife
I love how as goofy and lighthearted as Justin can be, he absolutely means business when the situation calls for it.
My type of guy
I have a manager that's like that at work. We need more people like that in the world. Less dictators and dickheads
He's the Captain of the Guard. His entire job is to be the absolute best physical combatant in the colony.
I love Mrs Brisby's design. I like her red cloak, and the way she holds it in a kind of blanket way when she's scared or nervous. In the book, she didn't have a red cloak, and also was named Mrs Frisby. According to the film makers, they didn't want to name her Mrs Frisby as they didn't want to get sued by the company 'frisbee'.
Reminds me when the Avatar movie had to change to just last air bender since that other film with the blue aliens was also called Avatar
Even more interesting, the change was made pretty late in production, after all the lines had been recorded, so it fell to the audio editing team to work their magic and splice all the times the name was mentioned from Frisby to Brisby. And they did an incredible job, you can't even tell the splices are there.
Yup 🤘💜
Agree. I love Brisby’s appearance because she’s cute but also pretty looking. Her red cape gives off that classic heroic adventurer cape look like in the Lord of the Rings and her blue eyes and face give off a feeling of innocence, kindness, shyness, and beauty. Also, Brisby’s voice is very soft and timid which fits her character because she’s a timid yet kind little mouse. Unlike Mickey, Miss Bianca, Basil, and Despereaux who are outspoken fearless mice, Brisby captures how a mouse really acts.
@@seasonembrace3624 Avatar was the biggest movie of all time and people barely remember it.
Justin and Mrs Brisby has such chemistry and the movie doesnt just outright tell you. Its there in the animation and voice pitches.
This is mostly lost today.
Absolutely not! Justin fell in love with his old friend of wife Mrs Brisby.
I love Justin, but I’m so glad the film, and the book it’s based on, was focused on Mrs. Brisby and her conflict, making the rats, who have their own troubles but would would help her instead, seem that much more fantastical in comparison.
Same! I hate forced love interests or forced love at first sight. They were both on a mission and it was much more realistic for them to still have that subtle mutual interest while also sticking to solving their major conflicts.
Do love that Brisby has to catch her self when she calls him Beautiful 😂
also man this film even today still looks gorgeous thanks to Don-Bluth's artistic talent here . Still holds up on a visual level. And also this film is also pretty atmospheric.
No one has ever seen the owl!.....and lived to tell about it.
One of the best lines in this spectacular movie.
Because, "They have Wayzzzzzzzz!"🦉
@@ANTZPound4PoundThey’re rats. Super smart, intelligent rats.
40 years later, and this film's animation has aged BEAUTIFULLY. Every single frame from the backgrounds to the characters are drawn so smoothly that i could stare at them for minutes on end and just be completely mesmerized.
While the 3D animation of today is wonderful in it's own right, it just can't compare to 2D animated films like NIMH.
I wish the major studio would pencil draw animation again
Don Bluth wanted to return to the style used in the golden age of animation, which Disney had long turned away from, so this movie is kind of like Don Bluth's middle finger to Disney.
Yes, I do love the animation in Don Bluth's masterpiece. 40+ years later and it still holds up. I remember saying to myself after watching it for the first time, "It's definitely one of the best animated films I've ever seen". And I'm one of those people that want 2D hand drawn animation to come back to the big screen. Btw, Mrs Brisby and Justin make a cute couple.
@@brodielarson9096Ouch
@@brodielarson9096There needs to be another Don Bluth-type person to rejuvenate golden age hand-drawn Disney animation.
Fun fact: This movie is actually based on a book called “Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of Nimh.”
I did know that and I read the book when I was a kid. 😀👍🐭
Even I knew that.
I’ve heard and I liked the movie I watched on tubi two weeks ago it’s a pretty good movie. Probably one of Don Burth’s best. About the original actress of Ms. Brisby, it was sad that she passed on, I’ve heard that she committed suicide. If only she got mental help, it would’ve been prevented, she was a great one heaven rest her soul, she reminds me of Eva Gabor
I know, I read that book in middle school, it’s the whole reason I watched this movie
@@cockerspanielfan56 RIP Elizabeth Hartman who voice mrs. Brisby in the film.
Justin is my favorite character in this movie, the way he was flirting with Mrs brisby aka Elizabeth is nice
Yeah like you can see the attraction but he's still respecting that she's Jonathan's wife
Rest in peace Elizabeth Hartman. You’ll live in our hearts forever.
Imagine if Don Bluth worked on the Redwall series...
Now that I would pay to see!
My wish since childhood
Too bad Don gave up years ago.
Oh my GOD that would have been AMAZING. It's exactly the sort of story and setting he's at his best with, the light fantasy elements, the animal characters, the dark and frightening moments, the memorable characters... God, what could have been. I totally can picture it in my head.
Omg that would be amazing
I used to love this movie when I was a little kid back in the 90's. And I still do as an adult. I wish they make a Prequel/Reboot to this. Focusing on Jonathan Brisby
They did... And it was NOT good.
@TheFartBall A prequel/reboot? I haven’t heard of it. Are you thinking of the sequel about Timothy?
@@ziriebenton6659I think he is
Fucking jesus goddamned christ on a rocket powered bobsled *_NO_*
NO reboots, NO fistfucking the corpse of nostalgia for everything its worth.
This movie is a perfect animated film and you want Hollywood to put their greasy, greedy fucking hands on it? Are you an imbecile? Good Christ man, how often do these "Prequel/Reboots" succeed compared to how often they are absolute failures? Here's a hint, it's nearly always.
Leave it the hell alone. Let it be a wonderful movie that had it's time and gracefully moved on. Not everything from our respective childhoods needs to be brought back from the dead by Hollywood's loathsome necromancers and it's corpse puppeted about so they can suck as many dollars out of it as they can.
The background art is extraordinary.
Well, that’s Don Bluth for you.
That thumbnail just screams...love at first sight.
Justin x Brisby, total shipping connection.
I love Justin he's sweet funny kind and a goofball but he's a good leader of the Rats of NIMH and a handsome Captain of the Guard ❤❤❤❤
❤❤❤❤❤❤😊😊😊😊😊😊
Justin reminds me of Phoebus from Disney's Hunchback of Notre Dame
Same.
I love how for whole chunks of this movie there's just no background music. Sure, Jerry Goldsmiths score is amazing, but it's nice to have animated films where they just let the visuals and dialogue speak for themselves
He shared theme to Disney’s Mulan, family, sci-fi fantasy and several halloweens films.
wait, so the reason my electric bill is so high is because the rats got to it?
Yep 😂
I think it's great that, while Mrs. Brisby and Justin have chemistry, they both are very aware that she is a widow and neither one of them takes it any further. They see each other as friends and respect each other through their mutual connection with Jonathan. Very few movies are able to capture those kinds of platonic relationships between men and women who have such chemistry.
Well…sure, they respect each other, but they also have more important priorities at hand. Mrs. Brisby needed to save her son, and Justin needed to save his people, so there wasn’t really time for romance in this movie. But I doubt that it would just stay a friendship if the movie had a longer running time, it’s heavily implied that they are attracted to each other. And the only reason why this is less common is because romance usually either drives the plot or it takes a back seat and comes back later. In fact, their moment of flirting and then back to platonic relationship is actually an unnecessary distraction to me. It doesn’t really add anything to the main storyline.
He can’t get over the fact she went to see the Great Owl lol
I think that Nicodemus was the Great Owl
Nobody sees the Great Owl! ... lol
It'd be like saying you went to the Dragon for help.
“No one has ever _seen the Owl…_ and lived to tell about it!”
No mouse or even if a rat from that bush would ever meet the owl cause Owls do eat mice and possibly rats for a night snack
I love how loose justin is animated. His go to pose is one hand on the hip very casual but you can tell he takes pride in himself being captain and just the way his animated you can get a lot of background into his character amazing
Look up shape theory in animation, it's very interesting. Shape and movement give us a huge amount of information about a character before they even say a word.
I think that justin is making the moves on her. 😀👍🐭
they were making the moves on EACH OTHER 😂😂 don't think we don't see you batting your eyelashes, mrs. brisby!
@@IsisNiko 😂😂😂
He is not. He respects Johnathan Brisby too much to try and seduce his wife. They have mutual chemistry which they acknowledge and understand but don't act upon, and frankly I wish there were more examples of this sort of platonic male/female friendship in media. It's executed perfectly.
2:59 Watch out for that "toy soldier".
There's something about voice acting in this era. Actors' voices seemed to have more depth and maturity to them, a weight to each word.
I love how Mrs. Brisby is trying to explain the situation while Mr. Ages is still _reeling_ over the fact that she spoke to _the Great Owl_ and _lived._
2:57 every scene of this film is the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen ❤
Mrs Brisby about to risk it all 😏
One of the greatest Female leads in a movie: Mrs. Jonathan Brisby!
Damn Justin, made my little girl selfie confused by being attracted to a cartoon rat lol. I adored him.
😆

Mr. Ages: THE OOOOWWWWLLLLL??? 😧😧
Well actually,
Mrs. Brisby: 0:39
Gosh, i love this movie so much. It's so pretty to look at and mrs brisby is such a comforting main character
Justin was such a cool character to me as a kid. I didn't even realize he was a rat since the others are a lot more mangy and mean-looking than he was. And Mrs. Brisby is such a sweet character that I wish we had more of. I like that even though the two are clearly attracted to the other, they don't pursue a romance (at least not on screen) since that's not what the story's about
It’s cute and I loved it, but felt unnecessary to the main plot. Either the flirting should become something later in the story, or just don’t include it.
She should've married Justin at the end
That would be interesting, but the problem is they're two separate species. Despite their similarities, rats and mice are two very different animals.
I know right
and I wish that they had did that at the end
She did in book 3
@@mikemcghin5394 nice

I think Justin and Mrs Brisby would make a cute couple (Am I right, guys?). Justin is like a brave knight and Mrs Brisby his fair maiden. Love the interactions between them when they first meet. Ohh, so adorable. 😊
3:46 "How beautiful..." If I was in Justin's place, I'd be like "So are you, milady". *blushes intensely*
I had to read the book in the 3rd grade. My teacher was an evil witch who would punish you if you missed an answer to a question. She was both mentally and physically abusive to her students. She would call you stupid, illiterate, and other names as well just because you read differently than the rest of the class. Anyway, I had to read this book and answer 20 questions every night for homework. I remember for the test, I rented this movie, watched it, and understood the novel alot better than before. I learn more by seeing than anything else. The teacher was actually impressed that I showed some initiative and rented the movie to watch it the night before the exam. I passed it with flying colors the next day.
As a kid, I had no idea what was going on in this film but I do remember having a crush for Mrs Brisby.
I love that justin, as captain of the guard is playful and fun but still does his duty in that he still knew that people were entering their domain.
Oh, come on, Mr. Ages, Elizabeth is telling the truth
Exactly. Mr. Ages is too rude to say so.
Justin was my first crush ❤️
"Justin I've got a complaint to make about Brutus"

Vicious rat nearly kills the main character.
She's reasonably upset.
Dismissed with "Oh that's just Brutus" and no explanation.
Lmao this movie cracks me up. 😂
The teeth makes him menacing
I've always loved how the rats and their story has been kind of a B plot where in any other movie(like the sequel) it would be the main focus. The movie is very adamant that the focus is on Mrs Brisby and her children, and that she's just an innocent bystander swept up in her husband's affairs almost against her will.
Спасибо! С детства люблю этот мультфильм.
Ahh brutus, hes always like that 😂😂😂
At 2:24, Mr. Ages was being rude because what he told Mrs. Brisby that something about how he was limping was none of her affair.
@4:09 Looks like a fun thing to ride inside NGL. It felt like going down to an undersea restaurant.
I miss MGM cartoon movies
3:39
Justin: so… she’s available, huh?
That 'evil whisper' from Justin for his joke would anyone jump, but Mr. Ages heard that joke in his new life time. "Reveal thy name"
I ship them like FedEx.
"The Secret of NIMH" among animated films is like the art of mid-5th century BC Greece. Every frame of it shines like the stone set within the sthparkly around Mrs Brisby's neck. It's hard to think of any animated film produced since so seemingly imbued with magic.
Reveal thy name

@@hairltabbjr94 okay okay it's just a joke
I love how the big rat was scary and fierce, but Ages just dismissed him as "just Brutus."

3:18 Justin: Okay, ok, just a joke! I don’t mean harm.
I always feel that must be something, that most are petrified of a big individual, but then someone who knows them just casually says, "oh, that's just so in so..."
In the book version, all the characters were better established, but the movie was well done nonetheless.

I was named after Justin. Never understood why until I finally watched the movie & I think it's just beautiful.
You were named after the rat? Cool!
@@ariadnefrolich7243 I was embarrassed at first, but then I watched the movie & it all made sense.

Who else wanted to see him again to at least apologize to Mrs. Frezby?
Mrs Brisby is very pretty
Even though it didn’t make sense for them to hookup. Because in the story its not too long ago that she lost her husband.
But it was a nice touch character wise to have her flirt a little bit with Justin. It shows she’s like everyone else. She’s lonely and misses having a romantic companion. She basically misses her husband in a way.
Secret of nimh 2 was a decent vut separate sequel, i appreciate it for its oqn qualities
I 💕 the video....so Amazing
The way the rats retrofit and modify existing human technology to make their own brand of "mystical" tech was always an interesting idea. A unique cultural trait.

I know it's a cool look but I wish they hadn't added the weird magical aspect to the rats. It's like okay, did the rats get injected with wizard genes too? In the book, they were remarkable for their intelligence and ingenuity. They didn't need magic to create their home in the rosebush.
