This Triumph Thruxton RS does something to me [RAW Onboard]

  • To me it is not enough for a bike to be ultra beautiful to feel special while riding it. It needs to feel refined as well. Which means high quality components like premium suspension and brakes. Just like this Triumph Thruxton RS has. And they say money can't buy happiness...

Of course this Thruxton is an amazing performer for a retro bike. Quite hard to beat with those kind of premium components. But compared to actual sports bikes it basically only shares the uncomfortable seating position. So why is it still such a joy to ride this thing? Can beauty beat pain? :D

Thanks Schaaf for this video. I fully share your comments.
I have recently been with my Thruxton RS in Almería, Spain, where I have traveled more than 3000 km of roads that did not know the straight line. It has been 15 days of absolute happiness. Its engine pushes as far as you are capable. Going strong, this motorcycle brakes in twenty meters with surprising definition and safety, the suspensions are hard and precise, you can throw your motorcycle to the cross of the curve and it goes out alone with all the gas you can give it. And the tires ... are gum. You can lean your motorcycle to the edge of the wheel tread without fear or doubt.
And honestly, with my 1.80 m. high and my new long gel seat, my body does not protest after days of up to 350 km.
Yes, definitely, this bike makes me very happy.

So much so that despite having another, more suitable bike in the stable, I took it for about 3500km tour across Slovakia, Hungary and Romania. Don't get me wrong, when you do 700km day on it the level of pain is not very enjoyable, but still. Unfortunately i had a big accident on it last summer, so the bike is no more. That beeing said, I'm considering buying Speed twin this spring. Maybe you guys are gonna be able to help me a bit here.

But I wanted something lighter and friendlier to my license and age at 70.
Yeh its a good looking bike, its heavily customised and on a long open road its slow.
I put in progressive springs and changed the gearing .
You do have to flog it to get some forward motion, but it has lots of charisma and street prescence.
My slow cruise speed on a zx14 was 140 kmh....the Thruxton high cruise speed is 130 to 140kmh. The bars and lean is similar to a zx14R. The stock Thruxton suspension is way behind a zx14R.
OK I miss the light speed acceleration but its safer for me.

@Schaaf Hi there, I just bought an RS last week. I weigh 150lbs. Did you adjust the shocks at all? Just curious, most of the time they get it right at the factory. Love the videos!

they are some kind of early prototypes from RACER gloves from France. But they are rather old now. I think what they come up with from there were the MAVIS 2 gloves
