70s...most creative, diverse writers and singers!! All these groups still playing today!! TALENT!!!!!
Itâs just about jamming and relaxing and dreaming your way down the river. There was time for that kind of song in the middle â70s. Rent was cheap and a dollar still meant something.
Brother, you asked for it.... "Whipping Post" by the Allman Brothers
LOL im headed there now! Have heard of the Allman Brothers... now its time do experience the magic thereof! Thanks!
@@abovetheinfluence9361 the Allmans can change your life. "Dreams," "Black-Hearted Woman," "Please Call Home" - they're the best.
Lord yes! But do the live version from Live at the Fillmore East!
Ohh Yeah!
Little Martha is the sweetest little instrumental ever.
"Long Train Runnin'" should be your next Doobie Brothers tune. If you would like a bit of a more upbeat song. along with "Listen to the Music"and "China Grove"
Lots of great choices in their play list.
it's about taking a paddle wheel boat up the 'muddy' mississippi...black water.
Yes...don't overthink it. Just enjoy the simple picture it presents.
It's about the Mississippi River, how life is slower, laid back, the river she's the tone, and the black water is reference for the name given by locals. It's a slice of life living in the delta.
I couldn't imagine hearing "Black Water" again for the first time. Please check out more Doobies. You won't be disappointed.
"Unchained Melody" sung by one-half of the Righteous Brothers, the late, great Bobby Hatfield, the live version from the Andy Williams' Show.
Love the Doobie Brothers. I'm an old broad. I grew up with them.
Songs about life in the Mississippi River in the South
When a song makes you Smile like that, it's a good song
It's just talking about the relaxed pace of Southern life.
It just taken easy, rolling down the river! You will love their work. đđâïž
Allman Brothers "Soulshine"!
(This song can be taken at face value. It's literally a song about the peace and serenity of a lazy day on the river.
Like the mountains, the swamps and bayous have their own time. Things happen when they happen, not on men's schedule.
I live between the Chattahoochee Ichetucknee and Suwanee Rivers and can completely relate to the song!
Here in the South, we have what's known as Black Water. Our water isn't polluted, it is extremely tannic from the cypress trees that grow in it. It makes the water very dark looking.
We have spring fed creeks and lakes but, they're very rare especially where I live as opposed to True black water.)
Havenât heard this for the longest time. Think it was on the radio in the 80âs when I was a teenager. Nice to hear it again.
I was hoping somebody suggested this!! These guys were so GOOD, and went on to spawn a few solo careers as well. This song has been a part of my life...for many decades! It's still a fun song to sing with friends who know it!
Love the Doobie Brothers they have some great songs. With this song when the music drops and it's just them harmonizing its amazing. I love groups who can harmonize.
Patrick Simmons wrote this and sang lead, he'd had a lick he'd been working on and when he went to New Orleans, the inspiration, from reading about the South in Huck Finn books, the Dixieland sound, going to the laundry mat when it was raining ("if it rains, I don't care, don't make no difference to me...") all of his experience of New Orleans, went into the lyrics and sound. He didn't struggle much writing it, it kinda wrote itself, according to Simmons, from interviews I've seen. One certainly get's the "feel" of the South from his song. I love it, and thank you for a good review.
Rockin' down the Highway! Great Doobies song. And no one does a reaction to it. You would be the first.
Ohh goodness long time I danced with my kids my day care kids cranked singing to this!!!!1975
spiked Arnold Palmer-thats what this song is about. RELAX!
*MUST SEE*...Beth Hart / Live at the Paradiso in Holland. Will blow you away! Love your reactions!
It's like going fishing and being perfectly ok with not catching anything, it about finding what what's right
To me, this song is about going home. The Black Water makes everything alright. Getting back to familiar surroundings and feeling safe.
This one is sung and written by Pat Simmons- who I went to high school with. He was the school guitar god back in â67!
It's talking about no hurry, enjoy what's around you, live in the moment.
And enjoy the music.
It's a 'sittin' on the dock of the bay' kind of vibe.
I like to play this when I'm out in my kayak , relaxing.
Steely Dan "Reelin In The Years", it's why I started playing guitar 45 years ago, great guitar, great tone. From the Doobies I would say China Grove, for the rock groove.
Allman Brothers! Soulshine, midnight rider, whipping post.
Congratulations on your doobie brothers graduation. Seems youâre now ready for the Little River band. The Night owls is probably a good place to start. Enjoy.
Listening to this song with glass of bourbon is the best!
I really like your response. The fiddle and guitar are talking to each other, too
Mississippi Queen by Mountain - pure banger from the opening cowbell to the close.
This is the first iteration of the big brothers - originally a Northern California biker band with a southern tilt to the music-who changed radically with addition of Jeff "Skunk" Baxter on guitar and Michael McDonald vocals/keyboards and became much more soulful and R&B-based.
Loved the Reaction just what I was hoping for. Good Ol Relaxation. I've always loved that tune and just imagine rafting down the river fir a day enjoying the Sundays bouncing off the river water. Getting back home at the end of the day and cooking up some shrimp or crayfish, getting that grill started. The tiki lights illuminating the yard, patio and enjoying life with friends and family and music.
Doobie Brothers was a rock band back as far as I can recall. I was in high school, with the bell bottom pants, platform shoes, and the guys all had long hair or afros. Black Water is my favorite of their songs. Jesus Is Just Alright is another. But if you want to do a request of mine, no one seems to react to Cat Stevens. My favorite song is Father and Son, but there is an awesome piano on Morning has Broken. He is an interesting man as well.
You need to check out "China Grove" by the Doobie Brothers next! Complete opposite vibe of Black Water. It's a full on Rock and Roll tune
Zeppelin's Ramble On or The Battle of Evermore.
Oooooh! Battle of Evermore'!
Ramble On!!
Love this song (and love watching people react to it). Another favorite Doobie Brothers song of mine (if you haven't already done it) it "China Grove."
Robbie Robertson - Somewhere Down the Crazy River
Love this fantastic group
great band great reaction THANKS!
"Another Park, Another Sunday" is one of my favorite Doobie Brothers songs that's often overlooked. Based on this reaction, I think you would like it as well.
Greetings đ Black Water, river of life, and people's lives, Jay all the best to you and family, Malcolm Lorna, Australia đŠđș
If this song doesn't make you smile, you have no heart and soul. If I can suggest another Doobie Brothers song, "Another Park, Another Sunday". There are tons of others, but NO ONE has done this classic.
Itâs referring to the âblack waterâ of the Mississippi River... meaning most cargo ships, barges... etc would travel up the Mississip- which took at least two full days and nights depending on where your destination was.... hense âold black water keep on rollingâ
Love me some Doobies! Music I grew up on, love their harmonies and feel good music. If you dig the harmonies too, then you should also check out the band Crosby,Stills and Nash!
I heard somewhere that this was done to be the B side of a 45 rpm record and the band never anticipated it becoming so popular. I can't provide proof of this, just what I heard.
having a good time - like you said "cruising on a riverboat on the Mississippi"
Waiting for bus/Jesus just left Chicago by ZZTOP!đ€đ»
Can you get any more Americana than The Doobie Brothers? Happy, upbeat jams!
I dont know what its really about I grew up at the very source of the Missisipi river and we have some mioghty rivers around here as well it gives me that slow powerful feeling a river has when I listen to it
Love, love, love this song.
Once way to start the day...you and this song.
This band has a lot more to offer... check out "What A Fool Believes" and "I Keep Forgettin'"
70s music is the bomb.
You really need to listen to the Allman Bros..
They're my favorite group of all time.
Whipping Post , Soulshine , Statesboro blues , Blue sky....
I consider them to be one of the 2 greatest Rock groups of all time ( with Led Zeppelin ).
There's just so many great songs.
Admittedly, I'm late to this party. If you appreciate all the directions this song takes and the atmospheric picture it paints, then PLEASE check out 'Suite Judy Blue Eyes' by CSNY [Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young].
Absolute supergroup, all masters in their own right.
Harmonies, hippies and heartfelt. đ
foreplay/ long time by Boston
25 or 6 to 4 by Chicago
this song is simple. it's about a kicked-back chill lifestyle on the Mississippi river.
Facts: a song like this needs to come with a spiked Arnold Palmer.
You've got to remember, Rock is the baby of R&B, Blues and Jazz.
Doobie Brothers~What A Fool Believes
It's basically a song about the back Waters and bayous having a time of Their Own. Things out here don't work on the same schedule as the rest of the world.
My favorite. Thanks. Enjoyed
My all time favorite Song from the Dobbie Brothers.
Ok...this is gonna be a little deep and intricately mind blowing....its talking about.....black water. Thats all. The black water of the Mississippi.
Also Taking it to the Streets by the Doobies is excellent.
Hey Nineteen-Steely Dan......killer groove !
For a real trip you should listen to Moody Blues - Nights in White Satin (1967)
I think itâs about River life, haning by the River. At night, the River looks black.
having fun...
The song is about my hometown of New Orleans.
Christopher cross - ride like the wind
Mark O'connor Just added it to the list! Thanks Mark! đđŸđ
Mark O'connor excellent song.
I love Sailing . . . Love the story behind it as well.
love the channel! glad your here!
Thanks Steven! Glad to be here!
it's a tribute to the city of New Orleans, i like to hear some funky Dixie land
doobies...more good stuff. different phases of this band. i would check out 'jesus is just alright', 'china grove'. 'Long train runnin', 'another park another sunday'. then a few from the Michael McDonald era....taking it to the streets, what a fool believes, it keeps your running.
What I would really love to see is. In this river by black label society. Great song!
jive talkin' (bass line is particularly cool) and Nights on Broadway by The Bee Gees
Saw these guys live a few years ago and they still sound great! But you should try out America(also saw them) Horse with no name. Or eagles Hotel California
Living, enjoyment, youth
I figure hes talking about the Mississippi river. I'm from Illinois by the river and they call it the muddy Mississippi for a reason. It may look blue from the side, but when you in it, the mofo is muddy as hell! I like the your vibe. I'd check out some more Led Zeppelin possibly Us and Them by Pink Floyd. A lot of people like seeing that reaction. Just give the people what they want. Peace.
Johnny Nash 'I can see clearly now' or 'cream puff'.
Don Henley 'dirty laundry'
Life in Ol' Miss' chilling by the black water fishing! If you brought a fiddler along! âșïžđ° #ENRGYZRBunny
I always liked I Cheat the Hangman by the Doobies. Really good song.
The song is about living in New Orleans, take that Street car thatâs going Uptown and funky Dixieland and the river are references. Can you do Taking it to the Streets!
Other great Doobies songs are "China Grove" and "Long Train Runnin"
Takin' it to the streets-Doobie Brothers. Also, check out Ghost Love Score by Nightwish
Definitely need to check out some Steely Dan and Boz Skaggs!đđ¶
It's about a Mississippi river boat, I think. Love those acoustic instruments.
Check out the Allman Brothers... Soulshine, Whipping Post, Midnight Rider to start. Great blues rock
Paddle wheel boat going down the Mississippi River to New Orleans Dixie band.
I keep forgettin by Michael McDonald. *He was in the Doobie Brothers later on.*
You really are good at analyzing songs!!!
You're right, this song sounds like what a spiked Arnold Palmer tastes like! Drip some honey down on it too, and you got what that fiddle sounds like đ
You should react to Soundgarden
Either "Fell on Black Days" or "Day I tried to Live"
Soundgarden was the favorite band of a friend of mine... for sure going to add them to the list! Thank you!
Whole lots love by Led Zeppelin
It sounds like a day in the French Quarter to me.
âBridge over troubled Waterâ by Simon and Garfunkel, please!
Long train running
Spiked Arnold Palmer - never made one. Sounds delicious!
