Making Viola - Sculpting My First BJD (part 1)

- Sorry in advance for my voice... I have a cold but I really really wanted to get this video done! This is a journal of my progress so far in making my own BJD. I hope to have her completed soon and be able to make a part 2 ^^
Viola is ~40cm high (MSD size) but has a girth more similar to a SD. I made her (mostly) out of La Doll and Premier stone clay. She has been a labor of love over the past few months. I hope you like her!

I LOVE that belly! It looks so soft and squishy and real, it's wonderful!
As much as I like her natural large bust, with the small one, it makes for a perfect chubby androgynous character (I'm so tired of androgyny being seen as something only skinny people are/do!), so that's my favorite... and the optional attachment is appealing for those same reasons.
I just really dig your sculpting and the way you've done the proportions and the shape... all the curves are so appealing and so soft/gentle looking, it definitely makes her seem cuddly. The kind of doll I'd want in my lap while I sew or watch TV.

In art class, we're making puppets, and I think it's really helped me figure out some things I needed to know. So than you a whole bunch for helping me out, and making a beautiful doll!

Before sculpting this, did you had any experiences with sculpting clay? You seem to be good at handling with clay than a rookie would...
Are you planning to make a casting mold out of this doll after finishing the prototype, then manufacturing them?Because I would love to buy this doll! How much would you sell these on Etsy?
Hi there! Sorry for the late reply! I didn't really have any formal experience... I made pots and things in grade school art class XD Right before sculpting this I did try making some little things out of paper clay (a little cat, and a small bust) but I never completely finished either of them. I used them more to get a feel for how the clay worked.

I seem like the head might have been a little small for her body size but other than that I absolutely love her and the fact that her body type is larger is amazing I love that!

I think this doll is absolutely beautiful! I love her proportions and that she isn't that typical 'skinny' doll, but actually represents a different body shape.
Also, I personally like the small bust a little more, because with it she reminds me of somebody I know and I really love the androgynous aspect of it :)

I think curves are beautiful! Being overweight is NOT UGLY! What people don't understand is that being overweight/fat has nothing to do with health, and you can be a beautiful big girl nonetheless but that doesn't mean you shouldn't take care of your body! Skinny people, fat people, average people , purple people, striped people will all look absolutely beautiful when they take care of themselves, by eating right and being active, by listening to their own body and taking care of their mental health. We all need muscle and we all need fat, trust me, you are GORGEOUS no matter your weight! But for your own happiness! Always try to take care of yourself :) learn to love yourself and always appreciate yourself, because there's no one else like you, and without you, the world wouldn't be the same. 💕

Hearing you talk about modifying body proportions made me think "Plastic surgeon." More into Gundam models, but this is interesting and may help me to improve my own constructs.
I think the male part can be on a separate torso that you (since you are selling this mold) can sell as an extra part, so the person making the purchase can use if they chose to exchange the feminine style body for something more masculine, and keeping the topic, you could make different sized parts for interchangeable pieces, much like the bust being interchangeable.
