Commenters are way over thinking this. I'll break it down, not saying I'm then end all be all on the topic but I hope it helps:
Using the /blog/ prefix - Best for sites that have another core service. Like an ecommerce site should use /blog/post-title/ so your posts are not a random page on your site. But if you use /blog/ on your blog it's fine.
Using /categories/post-title/ is great for huge websites. We're talking sites like the Penny Hoarder with thousands (not hundreds) of blog posts.
The /blog/category/post-title structure is a bit long.
Don't use dates unless you're running a news website with time sensitive content.
In short use /post-title/ or /blog/post-title/ or /category/post-title/ and stop over thinking this.

Thank you very much for the video, it's explained really well. I don't know if there's a way through RankMath to remove the configured permalink (in my case, "/blog/") on the location pages when you activate the Local SEO functionality.
In my case, I also have other Custom Post Types (CPT) that I can configure to remove the "/blog/" slug, but in the case of locations, I can't.

Hi at exactly 5:11. There is a small circle showing Infront of the Uncategorized it the category box. which is think makes you select the primary category. But mine is not showing as i am already using Rank Math SEO Pro on the latest version. Please help me on this.

One of the pages has the name "Best steel knife". The moment I point it in wordpress as the home page this url or otherwise slug disappears. In that case, can Google bots see this slug best-steel-knife? What is the best way to deal with this issue on the website?

But it won't allow me to put in "products" in Product category base. I cant use %category% in product category base.

Will the old URL's that was directed from ever be deleted? Since they're not in use. (With or without rankmath)

The old URLs that were redirected from may not be automatically deleted, whether you are using Rank Math or not. When you set up a redirect, it typically directs traffic from the old URL to a new one. The old URLs themselves are not deleted automatically, as they might still exist in your database or server logs.
If you want to clean up these old URLs that are no longer in use, you would need to manually delete them from your database or server. This process is not handled by Rank Math or any other SEO plugin automatically.

Hey, I'm using a category in the permalink. During a post, rank math is making me confused when I click on the edit snippet option. The title and Permalink are not showing me the same SEO strength. Either I have to use a long title to strengthen the title SEO and avoid the permalink SEO or the second option is to avoid the title SEO and use a short permalink. Due to this, post-SEO is not strengthening. Why rank math counts the whole permalink including site, category, and title. It is telling me to shorten the permalink even though I can't make it even more shorter. I only use 3-4 words which are not enough and it starts hurting the SEO. Please advise. Thank you

Short URLs are preferred for a better user experience, and to calculate the complete URL length to determine if the URL is short, we have to take the domain name, https and separator characters into account.

Having that said, if your site permalink structure includes the category and is structured to be longer, then you can ignore this test altogether.

I'm rebuilding their sitemap. How important is it for me to maintain /%category%/%postname%/ custom post permalinks? How much will I break if I use Postname in the new build? It's hard for me to sort this out.

If you are using Rank Math's sitemap, our plugin should be able to pickup the chosen permalink structure and apply it to the links that are added to the sitemap when we generate it. If that isn't the case on your end, kindly clear your website caches.
And if you happen to change the permalink structure, please make sure to use 301 redirects to avoid any traffic loss.

Thank you! I`ve got a few things I didn`t know about permalinks! But still can`t solve the problem(((( My website is new. It is indexing, as google told me) but if I search for my post, putting the title in google search - I see the correct permalink and description, but instead of a title, I see name of my website (wellnesstalk) - . ((( I rechecked all settings and I am using rank math for watching what the title will look like. It seems correct, but in search - no((((( any ideas on how to improve that? Will be really grateful for any advice!

Please check the URL using www.heymeta.com/ and see if it is showing the correct title and description that you added with Rank Math.
However, it is a pretty common thing with Google these days. It happens with 70% of the results that even if everything’s fine, Google decides to show a different meta title/description for your search keyword, there is nothing you can do as Google sometimes ignores the custom meta info altogether and show something from the page’s content that matches the search intent better.

Rank Math's blog uses the structure /blog/organic-keywords/ instead of /blog/category/seo-basics/organic-keywords/ for the "Organic Keywords - How To Easily Find & Improve Your Rankings in 2022?" post.
Question: I'm curious why these structure methods aren't mentioned in the video, or if there are any benefits?
This looks like the structure you're using:
1. Using a /blog/ prefix instead of the typical "Post name" WordPress permalink option (e.g. site/blog/the-post/ instead of site/the-post/)
2. Not using categories for individual posts (seen above)
3. Using the /category/ prefix plus the category name (instead of just using the category name alone)

We use prefixes such as 'blog', 'kb' on our posts to classify the intent of the articles. Our blog articles are focused more on sharing SEO and WordPress knowledge, whereas our KB articles are very specific to our Rank Math plugin tutorials. This structure of our website helps our users to easily find information they are looking for.
We also want to highlight that WordPress does not add the prefix '/category/' automatically for posts. And as you observed we don't include the category name in the permalink, as it makes the URL long. We prefer to keep the URL short and easy to share.

It really depends on your site whether to keep the category prefix in permalinks. There is no right or wrong rule here. But, as you mentioned, the suggested permalink structure is shorter, flexible, and could help you avoid any unnecessary redirections.

Superb content. In regards to product categories, when removing the parent path do you recommend redirecting the additional URLs that wordpress creates when you add the category to its parent? Isn't this technically duplicate content?

You can use Strip Category base option. However, there is no guarantee that removing the category from the URL will improve your rankings. Once you’ve enabled the Strip Category Base option, all your existing category URLs will be automatically redirected to the new links.
