    The only reason I can leave a local church is if they do not teach the basic doctrine of the faith. But I won't leave church in general. I'll simply change my local church

    Most churches today are basically preaching about how to have your needs met. If one is ok, based on the preachings in most today , there is no need going if you are comfortable. Also as you rightly said most are a cult of personality, the personality being the G.O. It is all about him, trying to please him or be in his good books. There is no effort to train people to be Christlike . It is all about material success . Forgetting 1cor15:19. Most are subtly fanning covetousness, but it is being disguised as faith.

    It has become so difficult to find a local assembly in which the focus is solely to live, learn and grow into the image of our Lord Jesus the Christ.
    "Pastors" would follow blindly a system, pattern, tradition of their high esteemed mentors or spiritual fathers over the implementation of the holy doctrine of the Lord Jesus the Christ. That's is just sickening.
    So many denominations here and there but only to find no unity among so called servant of the same master.

    I think a big challenge for applying church discipline in our time is the sheer size of our congregations. Sometimes certain people who are relatively unknown in the church are brought to light via some negative thing they've done, essentially tatnishing their image. There is a lack of intimacy that makes the disciplinary action feel like a shaming tactic and not corrsctive and towards redemption. Its like when your parents rebuke you in front of strangers. It breeds a feeling of betrayal by the congregation.

    Love is the key to church growth. People wants to feel loved. Love includes generosity, caring for others, 1 Corinthians 13

    Discipline must be effected in the church without compromise, however the approach must be well taken gently and in love.
    Galatians 6:1 tells that such actions be done gently.
    The issue must also be well explained like in 1 Corinthians 5:5, the action is only for the salvation of the Spirit. Though Jonah was cast into the sea as a displinary action yet his soul was preserved.
    Applying Ephesians 4:15 where we tell the truth in love and show no partiality in dealing with such issues, the members will gladly welcome all these disciplinary actions as important. After all it’s better to enter heaven maimed than to miss heaven whole
    Anytime we do

    In my experience, i have seen elders who were guilty of sexual perversion but are quick to put a condemning ticket on people who get pregnant. Think about an old lady who has all kids out of wedlock with different men but insulting a young girl and calling her cheap for getting pregnant...like how

  • @jameskingsford8559
    @jameskingsford8559 Před rokem +2

    This is my opinion: I have been in church for a very long time now, and this has been my observation especially disciplining those who get pregnant out of wedlock... More often than not,it is those vulnerable ladies... In most cases these ladies are going through hardships, some unemployed;being fed by their boyfriends,their boyfriends are those renting for them sometimes and in most cases church authorities will close their eyes on these ladies going through difficult times but will quickly come and sanction them which I think is not the best if indeed we are seriously interested in the harvest of souls for Christ.... I can also tell you that in most cases Ladies who are not gurus of the game are those who get pregnant ,those who have been doing these things will usually find their way out of pregnancy..... Also because of the fear of being disciplined at church,the ladies will take medicines to avoid getting pregnant..... So if someone got pregnant out of these hardships and gets disciplined ,what are we doing to those who are using medicines to clear it because they were all involved in the same act.... A proper and a better way should be adopted in love...

    If you are in church to observe the actions of people, you'll never belong to a local church because the truth is, every church has its own problems. The church is an assembly of imperfect people and one should not expect perfection. That's why the church should be out to teach us Christ so that we can become like him.
    Look unto Jesus while in your local church. Don't look at people.

    Concerning putting people at a particular seat for pregnancy,...i disagree in the fact that it tend to bring no change of heart. Discipline done in love will have no element of shaming u infront of everyone. At that moment, you have no idea the trauma the person might be going through. The trauma alone is like 1 million shaming so adding to it only builds resenment.
    What should be done is view as Christ would do, with welcoming arms as the Father welcomed the prodigal son. Showing that grace, overwhelm the person at the receiving end and thereby fostering a change of heart when the realise the deserve to be condemned but was shown grace.

    Thank you for this episode of going through some reasons people stop going to church. On another note i also prefer to hear the other side (pastor or church side) concerning the individual's complains. Because we now live in a generation where its easy to take offense on anything. As long as we do not like something we bash and criticize it. For example, some people expect a pastor to be there for them 24/7 after the death of a loved one, but the same pastor has other families in the church going through other things that needs his attention, talk less of his own family as well.

    Why is such discipline reserved for young people sleeping around ?and not people who gossip ,lie,break down the church,people who beat they wives, thieves ?always we regard some sins as worthy of attention and some not.I honestly think if we were to give each sin the same discipline that it deserves maybe the church will be empty ?Truth be told usually that disciplinary action does nothing to the people and True repentance and conviction cannot come from the disciplinary actions of men but the Spirit of the Lord himself .

    Different places have different laws and principles. If you have been in a house for long, 3 months +, you should know their laws and obey. If they are very strict on dressing code do so, if they say women don't seat in the front follow. As so far as it is not anti-scriptural and doctrine just obey.

    Pastor Gideon, I salute. Thanks for producing content like this.
    My issue has to do with the brothers and sisters who fornicate and then give birth. It's rather unfortunate how church hasn't done justice to how they handle such issues.
    Some members as you said are made to sit at the back of the church, while others are prevented from taking communion and participating in regular church activities.
    The handling of such issues, per my observation doesn't lend credence to the love we profess as Christians.
    I hope we'll become better as time goes on.

    • @samgrace02
      @samgrace02 Před rokem

      Personally.. I think.. this issue. Need to be addressed ## in that.. the church as a body has regulations and discipline sections that deal with this .. ## it's not different from a child being in school and misbehaving... When you are not caught you go free.. but when you are .. the school as a discipline body deals with you per their regulations....
      Its not that different from the church... But yet.. what I think is.. it must not affect that person's spiritual growth ... Like taking a communion etc... Its a no no for me .. yet you can discipline the person by taking things with instituted by the church from them as means of discipline

    But, in all this, it depends, on what an individual wants because, there are still churches & pastors on cause everywhere but, people/youths wont go to such churches because, they are not famous like others & the words been preached is not what they want to hear. Its unfortunate. Jesus is forever Holy, right & constant so, no one should stay off church because of some pastor's abnormalities. We really need to pray, for the youth of our days, I totally believe, they are the ones under attack been yhe future of the church, why will someone leave the church, because another is disciplined? Its a sign such people are yet to meet Jesus or have an encounter with him, they only have an encounter with the church/pastors.

    I believe the issue of fornication must be addressed based on the level of growth of the individual involved. You cannot discipline a baby Christian like you would someone you expect to know better. However in all this, we should avoid this isolation of people who fall in sin. There should always be a restoration mechanism added to the punishment.
